Exceeding 85% Disk Quotas Report Header
by Guest Scott- 0 replies

On Server 2003 R2 SP2 we are running disk quotas with warnings to users at 85%. The email warnings which are sent to users are very confusing because, rather than having a header that emphasizes that they are approaching their quota, the report has the following header and subject: Duplicate Files Report Generated in response to a quota 85% threshold exceeded notification on 'E:\Users\Jonesj'. Generated at: 10/9/2008 10:40:51 AM Report Description: Lists files that appear to be duplicates (files with same name, size and last modified time). Use this report to quickly identify and reclaim disk space wasted because of duplication. Is there any way to mo…

Win98 to 2000
by Guest Cottonmouth- 10 replies

I've been using W98 for years without problems, but it's getting so there's too many things I can't use/access with W98. My sister has offered me Win2000 so to bring me out of the dark ages. The questions I have are; is W2000 a memory hog(384meg); would it be better to make it dual bootable with W98 so if I had problems I'd still be able to fall back on W98? Are all the patches readily available for download or on CD? It's been a long, long time since I've upgraded and I'm a little nervous about jumping into it. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Disable the homepage from auto appearing as desktop when active desktop is enabled?

Sorry this is multiposted in public.win2000.general - not a busy forum so I've posted here also (apologies in advance) Hello I have numerous desktops running windows XP who's users have a policy puching out corporate wallpaper, which requires active desktop to be enabled. The same users logon to a Win2k terminal server, and active desktop (with it being enabled for the user account) gives every user the homepage when they logon. Is it possible to have this feature disabled? I think it must be in the default user profile somehow but unsure, can someone help? Thanks

Hi I have following entries in my XP OS host file. I have removed these entries and rebooted the system however after the reboot these entries have appeared again in the host file. I have scanned my system and cannot find any virus. Can any one provide me some information about these entries? How to remove them permanently? Domain troubles
by Guest Huston- 6 replies

I have two groups of machines. One group(A) is on a domain, and the other group(B) is not. Both groups are behind the same firewall. There is a program that I have that needs access to a specific site. The group that is not on the domain works...... The group that is on the domain doesn't. Where can I start looking? What might cause this? Ask questions if you need more information, or point me in the right direction if I am in the wrong group. Any help is appreciated... Thanks Shawn Huston

Sharing encrypted folder
by Guest DPM- 1 reply

Environment: Server2008-x64 enterprise, XPpro SP2 client. I want to set up a shared encrypted folder on Server2008, so I: 1.. Logged on the server as admin and created folder "secure", marked it as encrypted. 2.. This new encrypted folder inherited full-control access permissions from user x. 3.. I go to my XP machine, map a network drive to "secure" using user x. So far, so good. 4.. I try to write a file to "secure"; permission is denied. 5.. I then go back to the server and copy the file to "secure" - no problem. 6.. On XP I export x's certificate (both keys) and successfully import it into the server. 7.. On the server I try to add …

VSS Error Event ID: 8193 and Application Popup 333
by Guest nja- 3 replies

Hi! I've got some trouble with our Fileserver. Everytime I restore a shadow copy (I use shadow copys for shared folders), there are errors in the Eventlog. First of all, the Eventlog is full of ApplicationPopup 333 errors. During the Backup job for all the Server, there is an error at the fileserver, and the backup Job aborts. I use Symantec BackupExec for the Tape Backup. This is the Event ID from the Fileserver Eventlog, wich generates the Backup error: Product: Windows Operating System ID: 8193 Source: VSS Version: 5.2 Symbolic Name: VSS_ERROR_UNEXPECTED_CALLING_ROUTINE Message: Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error calling ro…

Accessing workgroup resources from a domain, goofy issue
by Guest wwworldwideweb@gmail.com- 1 reply

OK, so I'm having a strange issue. I've created a new domain for some office computers (SBS 2003 and XP Pro) and moved them all into it. There are some resources that cannot be moved into the domain though. There's a printer and another Windows 2003 file server that needs to be kept in the workgroup for unrelated business reasons. When the client computers first login they can access the printer and the file shares fine. Then, after oh say 45 minutes or so they lose access to them. All the same usernames/passwords exist in both the domain and the file server. The shares and NTFS security are wide open. I tried net use persistent:yes but no luck I thought …

Access Denied (policy_denied): when trying to access the Internetthru IE on Win2k3 TerminalServer?

Access Denied (policy_denied): when trying to access the Internetthru IE on Win2k3 TerminalServer? Hello, I administrate various Terminal Servers. On one Server I would need to call on support from the company responsible for a special application. Now it seems that it is impossible to get into the Internet. Instead of getting the proxy authentification dialog window I get a window with the following message: Access Denied (policy_denied) Your system policy has denied access to the requested URL. For assistance, contact your network support team. Is it possible to get around this? Or is it a domain policy where I cannot to anything about it? Or is it st…

Microsoft Keyboard USB problem

I have two MS keyboards...the natural ergonomic variety...the old one, an Elite, works in USB and PS/2 modes but the newer Multimedia v. 1.0a will only work in the Ps/2 mode. I have the legacy mode set in the bios. The USB connection is via an adaptor from the PS/2 connector. Issue for me is to switch to a USB KVM and the Elite works but I prefer the Multimedia board. So, I am stumped. Any ideas on next steps? Thanx for any help. Henry

U3 Readyboost flash drives problem
by Guest Andrew- 2 replies

2 SanDisk Cruzer Micro 8GB U3 Readyboost flash drives are on their way to me from Amazon, which at £9.99 each post paid are the cheapest branded one I’ve seen to-date. I’ve found u3 to be an expensive gimmick and would normally use a little app called u3 uninstall which returns the flash to its original non-u3 state. However, not yet familiar with Vista Readyboost, has anyone any idea if using the u3 uninstall will affect the Readyboost aspect of these drives? I'm still using XP home until support runs out. - Thanks - Andy PS - Have also posed this question to Windows Vista General Discussion.

Can't get rid of desktop icons

Hi using win xp My friend was using "Magix Photos on CD & DVD" to create commentaries on a slide show and each commentary has ended up on his desktop. Now he can't get rid of these icons He did go into the registry through H- key_Local_Machine and H-Key_Current_User to his desk top icons, deleted the icon streams and altered the binary codes but they seem to regenerate themselves. His desktop is a mess of icons. Would anyone know how to fix this please? -- Martin
