Event 4105 on licence server
by Guest Sven Vollmann- 2 replies

hello, we use a windows 2008 licence server that is not installed on a dc and use "per user" cals for our 2008 ts farm. on our licence server we see in the eventlog the warning 4105 that means that the licence server cannot update the ad user properties when he delivers the cals. we have discovered that the terminalserver-licenceserver group is under the security properties of the user listed but has no rights. by new created users the rights "terminalserver-licenceserver read" and "terminalserver-licenceserver write" are automatically set for this group. if we set this rights manual the warning disappears in the eventlog. my question now is: how can we…

Outlook 2007 Performance
by Guest Jeff G- 0 replies

All - I have a Terminal Server Cluster that has been built. In my testing, I placed a user that has a large (2.5 GB) Exchange mailbox. When he launches Outlook 2007, it comes up, but he gets an hourglass for about 5 minutes. During that time, he can go on do other things, but when he comes back to Outlook, he gets the "Not Responding" or the white screen. Eventually, it comes back around and he's able to use it. He's not running in cache mode, because of running on TS. All patches have been applied to the servers in the cluster. I've disabled the add-ins that would allow me to. I know that the account size is an issue, but he didn't have the pr…

I was trying to set resolution in safe mode. First, I ran msconfig then ticked boot to safemode and then I restart. But I cannot login cause I was only able to login thru a different domain or netmork (e.g. doamin\username). Is there any possible way to boot into normal mode again? I tried pressing F8, and then choose Normal Mode etc, but still it went thru safe mode! So sad, I feel Im in Danger Mode. Please help! I cannot login and my computer is completely useless now... Many thanks in advance! -- ===================================

Friend's pc shows only black screen and a blinking cursor. He pushed F2 and F12 only to get the Phoenix bios screen asking for a password which is foreign to him. How can he restart Windows? Running Pentium based HP about 2 years old, don't have explicit details. He is in another city and doesn't have access to a Windows disk. Bill

Unable to stop USB hard drive
by Guest simonc- 6 replies

I raised this before but unfortunately didn't get any replies which helped solve the problem. I now have some more information. The problem is that every time I try to remove a USB portable hard drive and use the Safely Remove Hardware icon I get a message that the device Generic Volume cannot be stopped. This although I have no applications open. I've now discovered that if I have the USB device already plugged in when I boot the computer it gets locked as described above. However, if I plug in the drive after booting up and logging on then I can eject it at will with no problems. What might be the application which would be locking the disk drive onl…

Recently I came across a Windows 2003 server licensed in per server mode with 5 CALs in which almost 50 users had open sessions and open files. How can this be possible? (I also had to start the license logging service to see the 5 CALs, otherwise, where can I see them?)

Do I Need a Registry Cleaner?
by Guest voujnbwuotkd@yahoo.com- 3 replies

"My computer seems to get slower and slower. A friend told me to clean my registry. Will that really help, and how can I do that?" Cleaning the Registry Yes, your computer will run better if you occasionally clean your Windows system registry. But first, let's define exactly what the registry is. The registry is a database in which Windows keeps track of relationships between hardware and software. It stores all the settings and options for the operating system, hardware, software, users, and preferences of the PC. The registry manages your system startup options, and keeps track of all software that's installed. Prior to the introduction of the Registry in Wind…

I have Windows XP and used IE 7. I had to do a system restore on Saturday because the add-ons someone messed up my system and I couldn't visit websites or click using radio buttons. Now IE 7 has disappeared - when i click on the icon my desktop flickers but IE never opens. The strangest thing of all is my System Restore no longer works and that concerns me more than IE not working. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Screen show on extended desktop
by Guest John Favaro- 1 reply

With XP Pro, I extended my desktop onto a second screen. Then I opened PowerPoint, opened a PPT file, and moved it over to the second screen to work on it. At some point I clicked "Screen Show", and the screen show came up on .... the first screen. Why didn't it come up on the second screen, and is there anything I can do to get it onto the second screen? (This actually has practical applications -- I tried to use the extended desktop technique to attach a projector as the second screen - but if I can't get the screen show to appear on the second screen, then, well, forget that idea.) Thanks for any insights, John

I Love Windows

I have never known what it is to have a boring day - ever. one day things work fine, the next who knows waht happened. For example, the two USB ports on the front of the case worked fine and tehn one day they didn't. A little patience and dilegence goes a long way in troubleshooting. In Device Manager I discovered that the ports in question had no drivers installed. Ok, so push the Update Driver button and al is good again. The question is how can USB ports work one day and not the next? -- FrankO

We have a Win 2003 SBS server that has too small of a boot partition (C drive) so I think we need to re-install the OS and expand the partition to use the entire drive. When I re-install the OS can I use the same domain name and will workstations need to re-join the domain? Also, is there any other way around this or other options for me? Thanks. David
