Remote Desktop

Recently we have had several people experience a difficult time connecting to remote desktop. I had the trouble a couple weeks ago from home when trying to connect to my computer at work, but suddenly it started to work again, but I'm not convinced it was anything I did. Now someone else in our company is having a hard time connecting. When he tries to connect he receives the message that it cannot find the computer, as if the computer at work has been turned off. However, if you remote to his computer within the building, you can connect just fine. Both boxes are checked within the Remote Desktop area. It's only when you are outside the building…

resource kit woes

Hi, A few months ago I installed the Windows 2003 resource kit tools on my server. At first I did not see any adverse effect but today I found out it did do one thing, very sneaky. ;-( I use the unix sleep command in several of my batchfiles to space commands in time. The original syntax for the sleep command is: "sleep <n>" where n is the number of seconds For at least a very long time, many years at least, the following syntax has also been valid sleep <n>s (to indicate n seconds) sleep <n>m (to indicate n minutes) sleep <n>h (to indicate n hours) and even sleep <n>d (to indicate n days) Unfortunatly the sleep comman…

I am using a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop computer, running Windows XP Pro w/sp 3. When attempting to install a Kyocera KPC650 wireless broadband card my computer immediately shuts down to a blue screen. I have updated everything that can be updated; have installed the card on another computer (to make sure it works), and spoke with the card manufacturer. The only help I am able to find is how to get the blue screen from appearing. I know how to keep the blue screen from appearing (dont install the card), what I would like to know is how I can get the card to work in my computer.

Mail Struck in Mail Quene

Hi All We have Exchange 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2) and Windows Server 2003. I'm having trouble sending outgoing email; it ends up getting stuck in the SMTP queue. When I reboot the Exchange server, the message is sent, but if I don't reboot, the outbound email is never sent. The domain name system (DNS) is good and I've set up authentication, connection, relay, outbound security and advanced delivery. I am at a total loss as to what the problem could be? Cheers

Downloading Updates 33% for ages.

I have a yellow shield in my system tray stating that I am downloading updates. No idea from where. Presumably MS updates but why is it stuck at 33% it's been like that for a while. I have nVidia firewall that came with the computer and Avast free antivirus. I would have thought that WinPatrol or SpyBot would have warned me of any problems. Nothing from any of the above. I have the updates scheduler set to download and then let me choose what I want from it. Thanks to all in advance.

Has anyone used microsoft OneLive.com? It has a free service to scan your pc for virus and/or correct corrupted registry files. I"ve been having problem doing system restore. My pc might be virus infected already. Currently, I don't have virus scan installed. I done everything as suggested by the generous posters here. From taking ownership of all the files and folders of the corrupted administrator profile and then copying it to another administrator profile. All this done on safe mode. I still can't log in on normal mode, it always log me in in the system default profile, for the mean time its' building up enormous temp user folders in the s…

I try to use a point and print process with a Windows 2008 server x64 to a Windows Vista 32. So first I need to install the x64 driver and then install the x86 driver. The x64 driver is installed without problem. But when we try to install the x86 driver (I try by using different methods, using \\PrintServerName\Printers, Printer management on server 2008...) At each time, when I try to install the PS printer x86 driver an error message saying "Unable to install PS3 type 3 User Mode, x86 driver. This opération is not supported" The PostScript driver is just an inf file + a PPD file. It seems that the driver used is the core x64 driver, and it's impossib…
