Users cant access Share
by Guest John F Kappler- 2 replies

I'm not sure if this is a Terminal Server issue or an SBS issue but I'll start here.... We have a Terminal Server (2003) connected on to a Domain controlled by an SBServer 2003 R2. The SBServer has, on its C drive, a folder which is cleared for sharing by "Everyone" with Full Control. Users on their PCs can access this folder, open files, run programs, etc. On the Terminal Server, we can also do all these things if we log in as an Administrator, but if we log in as a Domain user, then we get an error message "Your current security settings do not allow this action" I've checked all the sharing settings on the folder, but given they can get there fro…

Thread Monitoring
by Guest LCermak@branick-inc.com- 0 replies

We have a distributed application that uses IIOP to communicate to an application server (EAServer) running on Windows Server 2003 SP1. We are trying to understand how the servers allocate threads for processes and if there are any tools to monitor the threads that are being created and used by windows. We think that at some point client requests are waiting for a thread to become available. How can we monitor threads and their status? We have gone thru many many tests to believe that the server waits for threads to become available. We have verified that the connection is established from the client to the server and then may wait if the condition above appea…

by Guest skymax_taf- 0 replies

In one of our domains we run WINS to support Windows 98 machines. Recently, WINS stopped working and I have come to the end of my rope trying to figure out why. What I am seeing is: In System Event Viewer - Event ID: 4102 The connection aborted by the remote WINS. Remote WINS may not be configured to replicate with the server. (Getting this message on the forest level DC and on each local DC) Replication on each DC setup to push/pull per Microsoft standard instructions. WINs console, at Forest level, shows all DCs in lower domains. Each has a green arrow to the left of their name. dcdiag states - failed test systemlog Event ID: 0x40011006 RPC (call) se…

Windows XP cannot retreive device driver list
by Guest Nick- 6 replies

This presented itself when we tried to install a new flash drive. Windows cannot find a driver for it. We have one of the same exact model that we have used previously and works fine. I tried uninstalling the USB bus and redetecting (restarted too) but then Windows cannot locate drivers for the USB bus. We have found that no new device can be loaded unless there is a script that installed the driver completely (for instance, Dell drivers). Also, when we select "I have a disk...", and then "select from list" no devices are found even if "only show compatible" is not checked. In fact, the only devices that are shown when we select "show all devices" are…

re ending MS's Action Pack subscription
by Guest Geoff Cox- 8 replies

Hello, After several years of subscribing to Microsoft's Action Pack I have decided to stop as most of the software is no longer relevant to what I do. It does seem a little hard that it appears that I will have to buy a full priced copy of Office Pro. Is this true? No reduced price for ex-Action Pack users?! Cheers,

ODBC drivers missing
by Guest ACC- 0 replies

When I open ODBC Data Source Administrator, 3 User DSN's are listed: dBASE Files, Excel Files, MS Access Database. If I try to configure any I get an error message 'The setup routines for ...ODBC driver could not be found. Please reinstall the driver.' When I go to the Drivers tab, it is empty. The PC is winXPpro SP3, with MSOffice 2003 standard SP1. I have tried reinstalling Office, but this hasn't added any ODBC drivers. Can anyone give me a clue as how to reinstall the ODBC drivers on their own? -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This message has been checked for all known viruses. The information…

Hello In Windows 2003 Server users can also be put into one or more groups. By putting users into these groups the users may inherit permissions and privileges that were not granted to them directly. If asked to administer user accounts to an existing Windows 2003 Server installation how would one track down all of the groups that a user account belongs to and how would one know what all the permissions and privileges are that the user inherited and were assigned directly? -- JB

Dear Group, I can't find a technical monitor group, and many of you are at the cutting edge of compuer hardware as well as software. I am seeking an HDCP compliant 30" LCD Dual-Link DVI-D 2560 X 1600 Monitor to enable me to run Blu-ray on my computer as well as to have higher resolution and greater size in Windows Ultimate 64-bit. I just spoke with HP regarding their LP 3065, and I couldn't find anybody who knew anything. I have never liked HP much, and I am sure they just rebrand their monitors anyway. Samsung, whom I like, does no seem to have an affordable HDCP compliant monitor in that size and resolution. Any suggestions? Thank you! Jim
