Here are the specs. Windows XP Pro SP3 I am tring to setup a scheduled task and I get this error ....the account information could not be set. The specific error is: 0x80070057: The perameter is incorrect. All of the updates for this computer have been done. The permissions for the Administrative Tools tools under the All Users \ Start menu are all correct. The Administrator account and the *User* account both have passwords set. From all my research to date say that the Microsoft hotfix and SP2 should have resolved this issue. The KB refering to this issue seem to have been pulled as the SP should have fixed the prob…

Windows often forgets folder size and view
by Guest Paul- 6 replies

Every now and again, maybe 2 or three times a week, I open a commonly used folder which I have previously set to a specific size, position and view, and find it has been reset to its default size an position, and that the selected view has been lost. It seems to pick a view at random, usually Icon, List or Tiles. Sometime sub-folders of the folder are also affected, sometimes not. What could be the reason for this? Is there anything I can do to stop this happening as it is most annoying to keep loosing the settings. I have already set the BagMRU size to 8000. I am confidant at editing the registry if required. Paul.

Yesterday 9/26 I uninstalled my webroot spyware. Then restarted laptop. When I logged on (administrator account) I got this message, "windows cannot load the users profile but has logged you on with the default profile". I can not acces my desktop, and all the documents. I tried to use Restore system, it doesn't work. I used to be able to do system restore. I can't do any download, or send email using that laptop. Because it said that I don't have administrator privilege. Please help all my work related documents are in that laptop. -- Thanks

Have been struggling for months with MS Paint opening painfully slowly. If I open now it takes at least 10 minutes to open hard drive goes mad and every application is affected you may as well go and make dinner while it sorts itself out. Then over the past couple of weeks Office Picture Manager started to do the same thing but after looking at this forum found that by deleting the associated .cag file hey presto its back to normal. Is the problem the same in MS paint and if so where do I find its associated catalogue file?

Help needed

My daughter's notebook computer tanked at college this week and she came home for the weekend for dad to fix it. It starts normally, then after the windows splash screen it goes black. Before I tried to fix it, I wanted to take her data off to another drive. I placed the HD in an external enclosure and plugged it into my laptop. When I explore the drive, everything appears to be there. Under properties, it shows about 2/3 full, which would be about right for the music, photos, documents and such. When I click on documents and settings, I see the normal folders, administrator, shared, and hers. When I click on the shared, there is the normal empty shared fo…

I want to create 1 big partition (D:\) with all the remaining unallocated space and I cannot do that now. TIA!

Windows Explorer Switches Errors
by Guest Skippybox- 7 replies

Hi, I am trying to use the windows explorer switches, but have a problem combining /root with /select. Individually they work, but together I get problems. Initially, I used: C:\WINDOWS\EXPLORER.EXE /e,/root,c:\ucd,/select,c:\ucd\module. I tried it different ways but usually I get C:\ to open instead. I tried skipping the comma before /select and when I try a file, I get a warning that the path does not exist or is not a directory. If I add an extension to the end of the file it sometimes gives me a File Download box. Other times, like for a jpg file, it actually displays the image in the 2nd pane! If I choose a directory instead of a file…

64-bit Server - Outlook Configuration Problem
by Guest Denis- 0 replies
We are using Windows Server 2003 R2 64-bit Enterprise Edition. It is our Terminal Server. We are not able to configure Outlook Profiles. Right-click on the Outlook Icon in Start Menu shows only 3 options - Read Mails, Internet Properties and Remove from the list. Access to Control Panel have been restricted, so users cannot access "Mail" control panel applet in "View x86 Control Panel Icons". How can I enable the "Outlook Properties" option in Start menu? Or how can I enable the "Mail" icon to be shown directly in "Control Panel" rather than in "View x86 Control Panel Icons"? Thanks in Advance. Best Regards, Denis Dudhia

I have a client who takes her laptop from office to office. She runs a batch file to connect network drives. When she goes to the next office, she runs a batch with all the drive letters net use j: /delete etc. If you look after running the batch file - it still shows the diconnected drives. If you run a line manually to delete the drive it returns - The network connection could not be found. You can't right click to kill the drive. What should I run at the command prompt to complete eliminate the previously mapped drive? Thanks

Install XP--C-drive switched?
by Guest wtw- 8 replies

I just installed XP with a new 320G IDE drive. I put in the master position, I think, at the end of the cable. I had a second drive in the machine. I apparently the latter was named audio/video. I now see the old drive is C and the new drive (local) is F. What happened? How do I correct this without re-installing. I recall one odd moment when I was install when it asked something about formating the new drive. It said something about partitioning it, which I think I rejected. However, I was puzzled by a list that showed audio/video, not realizing this was the name I had given to the second drive. As far as I can tell, all is OK on both drives. I was …
