Profile appears in MyComp adv, but not in Userpasswords
by Guest spamlet- 0 replies

Can someone explain to me (in pursuing my earlier 'user name assigned to new profile' problem) how it is that some profiles are clearly present, showing up in MyComputer/Properties/Advanced, and opening with ctrl alt delete, but they do not show up in (XPHome) in Control Panel User accounts, run: control Userpasswords, or Userpasswords2? This is all rather puzzling. I know I can arrange not to show a profile on the welcome screen, but do not see how it can disappear from Control panel and userpasswords. Explanation much appreciated. Cheers, S

multiple I386 folders. Abnormal?
by Guest rsl18@sbcglobal.net- 4 replies

The reply to a previous post did not fully answer my need for information. I am now guessing that it is normal for there to be multiple folders named SYSTEM32. "File Locator Pro" search reveals: C:\Documents and Settings\Lynn&Kathy\Desktop\seldom USED\EN-World\System32 2/28/2008: C:\Documents and Settings\Lynn&Kathy\My Documents\Cecil\Discharge 31 Dec 1959\I386\SYSTEM32 5/2/2008 C:\OP16Std\Prerequisite\System32 2/28/2008 C:\Program Files\pebuilder3110a\BartPE\I386\SYSTEM32 5/19/2008 C:\WINDOWS\system32 9/29/2008 Also, there are folders named "I386" in several locations. My concern is that there is no I386 at C:\Windows. I repeat that the…

BSOD STOP 0x0000001A from CPU test
by Guest George Orwell- 4 replies

My PC froze when I tried to watch a DVD. I ran dxdiag and it also froze the PC. So I started to check things. I ran two free CPU testers (BURNMAX and CPUSTABTEST). They run for 5-10 minutes and both give the same Blue Screen Of Death: STOP 0x00000001A MEMORY MANAGEMENT does this suggest some hardware is on the way out? Note CPUSTABTEST was only running the simple test, not one of those CPU stress/heat options. Hi, I would like to let users access remote applications ONLY, not allow them to use the same username/password in the manual connection client to get a desktop. How do I do this? I have successfully deployed RemoteApps, the only problem is that users need to be members of the group "Remote Desktop Users". Any help would be greatly appreciated. Y

How to disable logging of failed printer installation
by Guest Brian- 7 replies
Various client stations of my terminal servers have virtual printers (CutePDFWriter, etc.) that do not exist on the TS. I would actually prefer that clients disable printer connections, but that does not always get done, and so it fills up the TS event log with pairs of 1106/1111 errors. (printer could not be installed / Driver... is unknown) What is the registry entry for disabling logging of printer installation-related events on the TS?

Vista Registry Cleaner - As Every PC Deserves the Best! 1 2 3
by Guest voujnbwuotkd@yahoo.com- 71 replies

One of the most common operating system that is used now a days is the Microsoft Windows Vista. It is the interface, which is the most enthralling part as it consists of a vivacious see-through window that has a pat of fine colour along with a brand new Start menu. However, what is important is to keep the system working efficiently and effectively. Windows Vista Registry Cleaner is one such service provider that is needed to maintain the operating system in good working conditions. A registry is nothing but a list of all the information about the details of software, hardware and preferences of the user along with all the settings details. Every time a new soft…

Certificate Issue
by Guest Chris- 1 reply

I have a Certificate Issue. I'm trying to pick up the pieces after I took over the administration for a new client. They use RPC over HTTP to allow outside users to access their Exchange Server. The certificate points to a certain domain which expired over the weekend. I.e. the Issued to: field in the certificate points to a domain that is no longer valid. I need to issue a new certificate that points to the new domain. The prior tech support left a certreg file with a .txt extension that begins with: -----BEGIN NEW CERTIFICATE REQUEST----- and ends with: -----END NEW CERTIFICATE REQUEST----- If I submit a new request in the CA using this…

We are using Windows Server 2003 Enterprise as a Terminal Server. It was installed and activated in 2005. This morning it would not allow any of the users to log-on, and every user was presented with the Activation Wizard, telling that the Windows needs to be activated before it can be used. The Event 1000 was logged-on in the event log Event Type: Error Event Source: Windows Product Activation Event Category: None Event ID: 1000 Date: 10/1/2008 Time: 7:16:23 AM User: N/A Computer: FSDTS2 Description: An error occurred while the wizard was checking the current Windows product license. by Guest RJ- 4 replies

"MMC has detected an error in a snap in. It is recommended that you shut down and restart MMC." I didn't used to get this before. It probably has to do with the SP3 upgrade. Does anyone know how to get rid of this error message?

PROBLEMS with virus riddled laptop FOLLOW-UP
by Guest Richard- 3 replies

Well..... :-) 108 viruses and trojans removed from C: drive 3 more removed from external USB drive 4 more removed from USB memory stick 4 more (again) removed from another USB memory stick Tools->Folder Options... menu and task manager restored to working order. The laptop even connects to the internet now! Several incomplete pieces of software dis-installed, including the remnants of no less than 3 other antivirus/firewall programs! The only outstanding issue was the failure of double-clicking on Local Disk drives in My Computer to work. Tried two solutions to this problem (regsvr /i shell32, and http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm), …

I've noticed recently that Windows seems to arbitrarily decide which files/folders get their names truncated and an ellipsis added when viewing them in icon/tile mode. This also affects my desktop, and it's really annoying. Windows has chosen to abbreviate "TmSunrise" to "TmSunri..." when the shortcut right beside it says "Play Rogue Squadron". In short, does anyone know the rule Windows uses to assign abbreviations and ellipses within folders, and if so, if it is changeable?

GPO Setting question...TS Sessions related
by Guest Cary Shultz- 5 replies
Good evening! We have a client who has a Terminal Server. I have a GPO that locks things down a bit. Included in this GPO are the following: Active Session Limit: 1 day Idle Session: 3 hours End disconnected session: 30 minutes My question here is: the 'increments' offered by the GPO are a bit lacking. 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours and then 1 day! What if I would like 4 hours? How do I get '4 hours' as an option to this? An option specifically for Idle Session..... And, for Active Session - what if I would like 8 hours as an option? Thanks, Cary

Losing control of the cursor
by Guest John Pollard- 3 replies

I have a Dell Inspiron 8500 laptop. Recently had a Symantec tech-support person "fix" a NAV problem on the laptop using one of those remote login pieces of software. The original problem seems to be fixed, but now I can not keep control of the cursor. At random times, the cursor becomes disengaged from the touchpad (or usb mouse), and drifts off the screen. Nothing done with the touchpad or mouse will get control of the cursor. Sometimes the cursor can be moved partway back in view on the screen, but it then quickly moves off the screen again. Left clicking usually displays the Start menu, left clicking again closes the Start menu. Right clickin…
