Cleanup Utility Installation
by Guest Dave- 0 replies

I am having difficulty installing the cleanup utility on windows server 2008 64 bit standard. When I run msicuu2.exe as administrator I get an error message saying "can not change to destination folder". There does not appear to be anymore error information. I downloaded the file from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 That page seems to suggest that the utility should be supported on the OS. Any ideas?

Windows Explorer - some properties in details view show blank
by Guest Jazzer- 0 replies

I use the Choose Details menu in Windows Exploer detail view to add extra columns showing information held in the File Properties fields of individual files. Most work as expected, however there are a few that don't: eg Keywords, Company. They show blank, even if there is some content in the field (using Word documents as an example). Some fields in the Summary and in Custom Properties don't appear in the Chooser list: eg Manager, and even if you create a custom property to match these or any of the other options in the Chooser, they still appear blank. Is this just a "feature" of Windows / Office? Perhaps someone has some tricks to make this wo…

I know this is not the correct group for this question but could not find a good WORD group I felt appropriate. I use XP, and Word 97. Recently started getting this pop up message every time I opened an existing Word Document... "c:\....\filename.doc is being used by Earl Partridge. Do you want to make a copy" Maybe someone can point me to the correct source for an answer. Earl

USB Mass Storage Issue
by Guest ib_redbeard- 0 replies

Hi all, Here is a summary of what is teh probelm and what I have done so far. When a user plugs in any USB flash drive, the "Found New Hardware" Wizard pops up. If you follow it through, it eventually asks for the USBNTMAP.sys file which is a file associated with USB mass storage on Windows Me. I am definately on a Windows XP SP2 machine. These USB flash drives work perfectly on other Windows XP machines. What I have done: I have downloaded and installed the chipset drivers for the laptop. I have removed all USB devices in the Device manager and then rebooted the laptop. I had to reinstall all the USB devices manually by the way. I ran chkds…

I recently installed SP3 on my laptop and desktop computers. Since then, I can not plug my iPod into either computer. I receive a "power surge on USB port" error message. Any ideas? Do I need new USB drivers? Should I go back to SP2 (my iPod worked fine with SP2)? Thank you.

Patch/application testing procedures & criteria.
by Guest Barkley Bees- 0 replies

For our patch testing process we install our internally approved patches to the lab environment systems (servers and clients). We then follow a basic checklist to see if any post install errors/issues arise - such as application problems and basic functionality. We also verify the all the event logs to for any issues. If no problems are found we then approve these pathes for production deployment. For our servers, we take backup images, using True Image (during our monthly maintenance window), applying any patches so we are able to roll back if any issues arise. I imagine many of you follow a similar process but would like to know what you folks use for…

USB storage device not in explorer
by Guest Cees- 2 replies

Hi, I've been looking for a long time to solve this problem that has started in march 2008. Problem: when i connect an USB stick it is regonized and it's getting a letter. Then when I want to use the stick, it is not possible, because the stick is not shown in the explorer. But it is shown in "portable media devices" (configuration screen) and it has a device letter.(this is normal) But from this place you can't use any folder on the stick. To do that, I must make a copy and paste it on the harddisc to have this possibility. But thats not the way it should work. I have 3 USB stick that all works fine on my other 3 computer with the same OS, so the …
