I have a Toshiba Satellite L300D-01N, Model No: PSLC8C-01N019 and I am downgrading to XP Pro from Vista. I have formatted the hard drive then tried to boot with my XP Pro that already has SATA drivers as I had created it earlier but I get this Stop Error 0X0000007B (0XF78D2524, 0XC0000034). Would I need different drivers for the hard drive??? Thanks in advance for the help.

I have a desktop computer that has Windows XP Professional isatlled on it. It was user-installed. Right now , i am having issues with Windows XP trying to load. It comes to the WINDOWS XP loading screen with the green scrolling bar below the XP logo. As it attempts to load, it freezes before the screen switches from the welcome screen to the logon screen. What are the causes of this and how can it be overcome so that Windows will start normally? NOTE: Safe mode does work. Restore has been attempted but it can't get passed that little bump as XP is loading -- Jeremy

Question about Server Performance Advisor
by Guest Brian- 0 replies

Hello, I have been using Server Performance Advisor to monitor the servers for adjustments that may need to be made on our 2003 servers. My question is does this "replace" perfomance monitor as far as setting a baseline for server system performance and day-forward monitoring of server performance? I was trying to set up performance counters for specific server roles such as file, print, domain controller, email, database and web server when I came across this utiliy. Should I still go ahead and configure performance logging or is Server Performance Advisor a turn-key solution? Any help, suggestions and advice would be greatly appreciated. -- Tha…

HELP with scheduled tasks
by Guest jhleslie@googlemail.com- 10 replies

Hello! I have some important files on my computer that need backing up daily, there is a hard disk attached and a very nice young man created a thing called BACKUP.BAT which works perfectly. It took him about 45 seconds of furious typing. It copies everything from my computer to the hard disk, all the files that have changed, or been created, perfectly. All I have to do is double click it. I wanted this to happen at the same time every day so the nice young man said as he left the office 'just set up scheduled tasks'. I have been trying to do this ever since but it wouldn't run, then eventually, acting on a hunch, I discovered that it is because I don't hav…

Months ago I installed and registered my OEM Windows XP Home Edition on an older computer. I just installed it on my new computer but I haven't registered it yet. Do I have to do anything to de-activate my old registration before I can register my new version? If so what would that be?

Hi, This is a new deployment and AD setup. Setup 1 2003 AD server SP1, after that, install x64 2003 server on another new hardware to install Exch07. Unfortunately, I got an error msg when trying to dcpromo(secondary AD) on X64 2003 server and I got the following error msg. I also did adprep /forestprep & /domainprep on the DC. The operation failed because: The Active Directory installation wizard cannot continue because the forest is not prepared for installing windows 2003 server. Use the Adprep command-line tool to prepare both the forest and domain. For more information about using the ADprep, see Active Directory help. The version of Acti…

I copied in some text from a pdf file and pasted it into Word. I have Windows XP with Word 2003. When I pasted the text, it puts hard returns at the end of each line. Is there a simple way I can replace these returns with a space and no return so that the text flows as it should? Thanks for your help. -- Jeff A. Rosiek

Time on compnuter and server - log on problems
by Guest Slam- 2 replies

I have a couple of users who cannot login to Server 2003. When they try logging in, on any workstation on the network, the error message "the current time on the computer and the current time on the network are different..." crops up. Any other user can log in without problem. I therefore assume it is something to do with these users' profiles but I can't work it out. Interestingly, both have been away for a couple of weeks on holidays. I had this with another user, a couple of months ago and ended up giving her a new log-in and profile. I don't want to keep doing that - there has to be a reason and an answer. Any ideas, please? Thanks.

mapped drive question
by Guest quincy451@yahoo.com- 3 replies

two windows XP x64 machines...both configured the same. Mapped drive in both directions. In one direction. Things work fine. The other direction. Larger files of a few hundred meg fail with access denied error. smaller one line test files work fine in this direction. SP2 is installed on both machines. There is a fix in SP2 for a issue like this. Any ideas? Second question: Any way to enable logging and access the logging information on these type of operations? Thanks, David

WMP9 beta
by Guest Arturo Seis- 3 replies

It was some years ago now I made a joke when talking with Noel, here, on the subject of WMP series 9 beta, about having ripped Surrealistic Pillow which was being reported as 1000x larger than it was. I said something like not realizing I'd actually downloaded the band itself! The implication being, of course, the code of a Human being in the multi-gigabytes. Well now we have thousand gigabyte HDDs that fit the same bay as back then could (probably) only hold about 60. I only have 160G available (2 of them in a RAID 1 array) though this is plenty for my purposes - more than half of that space is dedicated for backup images (which are themselves duplicated in RA…
