ACPI BIOS Errors
by Guest Macdad69- 13 replies

This is the error message that I get: AMLI: ACPI BIOS is attempting to create an illegal memory OpRegion, starting at address oxffff0000, with a length of 0x10000. This region lies in the Operating system's protected memory address range (0x100000000 - 0x130000000). This could lead to system instability. Geez, you think??? Maybe that's why those BSOD's keep happening. Backstory... Replaced Intel dual- core processor and mobo with DG31PR mobo and Core 2Duo Quad Q6700. Put 4gb RAM on the board, dual channel, nothing but probs. Running XP Pro sp3. Flashed the BIOS on the first board, no change. Second board is already at newest BIOS rev. All suggestions I se…

Hi, I have XP Pro x64 so I'm posting here but I'm not sure if this is the right forum. I downloaded and installed a trial version of DriverGenius. I decided to uninstall it but when I boot up my computer, a window opens for me to purchase the program. How can I get this window to stop popping up? I cleaned the registry using TweakNow RegCleaner Std Advanced WindowsCare V2 Personal but the box still pops up. Any ideas? -- Denise

Setup by design just for a single user; very nice and simple, and easy to keep track of *everything*. A very, very, lean operating system. (I think it's somewhere around 200 MB in total, isn't it?) > But to go back to 98SE > would mean reformatting the hard drive and using my external drive (which > doesn'…

Copying Folders with No Files
by Guest mcp6453- 4 replies

I'm trying to make a copy of a folder on my XP SP3 data drive by dragging it and dropping it onto a USB drive connected to the same computer. For some reason that I don't understand, when Windows Explorer encounters a folder with no files in it, it throws up an error and then stops. If I kill the folder and try again, WE throws up on the next folder with no files. Sure, there is no downside in deleting all folders with no files in them, but there are many, many folders on the drive. Please help me understand why WE would choke on copying and folder with no files and whether there is a solution for copying all of the folders (including the zero-byte on…

Resoring XP Boot Ability?
by Guest Ross M. Greenberg- 1 reply

I had a dual boot system: XP Pro/Vista Ultimate. Then I ran some buggy partitioning software. Fortunately I had full backups on an external USB drive. I restored the Vista partition without a problem. The data files on the XP Pro partition were restored as well. But the bootable portion of XP Pro didn't make it. When the system boots I get the choice of booting from Windows Vista (the default) or the "Earlier Version of Windows" which is not bootable. What do I need to restore the dual-boot capabilities? Thanks! Ross

No "Log Off" or "Disconnect" from Server 2008 Remote Desktop?
by Guest 9Nails- 3 replies

Hi, I've just setup my first Windows 2008 Standard server and noticed one odd thing, it doesn't have the "Disconnect" option like Server 2003 did in the bottom of the Start Menu. The option to Log Off is there, but it's burried and I would like to put it back under the Start Menu and not hide it under the options button. So does "Lock" replace the "Disconnect" option? And can I add "Log Off" as a button or link on the new "Start Menu"? (Not the Classic Start Menu) I do like the new Vista-esque menu, and especially the Start Search feature. I haven't had any serious problems with Server 2008 yet. I did have some minor SQL 2005 backwards compatability i…

Disappearing hard drive space on 2k3 DC
by Guest DonnaJ@abbe-lib.org- 10 replies

I've got a Domain Controller that is low on space. The thing is, I just freed up 25 GB on hard drive space on it a couple of weeks ago (relocated the software storage folder). I did this because it was low on space and running poorly because of it. And now this server is running so slow that I have to reboot it several time a day and it only has 3.38 GB's of free space. How do I figure out what is filling up the hard drive? We use DFS replication. This DC holds the Schema Master Role. I'm sure you will need more info in order to be of help; I just don't know what to posted. Just ask. Thanks, DJ

This is a Windows XP professional SP3 workstation. Since about 2 weeks, I'm no longer able to install new problems that use the msi installer. When I try to install a new program, the following message gets displayed: The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assitance. I have tried an install of an MSI with logging enabled, and the log shows the following (just one line): MSI © (44:2C) [20:47:52:390]: Failed to connect to server. Error: 0x80040154 At the same time as the windows installer, windows…

Command problem?
by Guest Vanessa- 2 replies
When pressing a key, it has to be pressed 2-3 seconds before it displays in the document. This is in at least two different programs. It is possible that the shift key was pressed before the problem began. So I am thinking it may be a command, but not sure since it was someone else's computer who is encountering the problem. Thank you for any help.

USB 2.0 Redirect Options with Native 2003 Terminal Services
by Guest Tim S- 3 replies

All, I have a two part question: 1. With terminal services in Windows 2003 and WYSE terminals running embedded XP, is it possible to have reliable USB 2.0 redirection? We have tried this shareware without a lot of luck and their support is less than adequate. http://www.usb-redirector.com/downloads.html What we are trying to do is install digital camera software on the terminal sever and load pictures from the USB 2.0 cable locally at the WYSE terminal. The camera needs to be a drive letter for the workflow to be acceptable. Are there known third party solutions that will do this without breaking the bank? 2. Is this even an issue with Windo…
