Can't get update to work
by Guest Neil- 5 replies
I am running Windows XP Home, and recently updated to SP3. The Windows updater is now trying to install the following update: Security Update for Microsoft Office Excel 2003 (KB951548) However, every time it tries, I just get the message, "Some updates could not be installed," with that update listed. As a result, my computer is continually downloading, trying to install, and then failing to install that update. It's getting really annoying. Is there a way I can get it to stop trying to install that update, or otherwise fix the problem? It doesn't tell me why it can't install the update. Thanks.

by Guest need2learn- 0 replies

Hi I am using Mdaemon with Windows 2003 Server. Few months back I changed the machine because old machine had some problems. After changing the new machine everything is perfect except that the mails can not be downloaded outside the local network. I have configured it exactly the same way as old server. Locally its working perfectly but outside the network its not accessible by using World Client or putting the POP and SMTP. I have put both local as well as real IP for outside access but still mails can not be checked/downloaded. I have gone through entire Mdaemon documents but no use ! Can some one help me with this ? What could be the possible rea…

WinXP Pro with SP3 + RDC = Weird Shutdown Behavior
by Guest John- 4 replies

I notice that RDC (Remote Desktop Connection) on WinXP with SP3 acts kinda weird. First time I saw this was right after SP3 was released. I thought it was a coincidence so I ignore it. However the problem keeps coming back. I still see it today. Here's how to regenerate the problem (both PCs are WinXP Pro with SP3): 1) Switch on PC1 2) Switch on PC2 (RDC should be enabled on PC2) 3a) Use PC1 to connect to PC2 thru RDC. You don't have to do anything. Just establish a connection, login as Administrator then Log Off (you can open notepad or something else, then close it and Log Off). 3b) PC2 should now be showing WinXP logon prompt 4) Physically g…

Some questions around moving shared folders to DFS...
by Guest SammyBar- 2 replies

Hi, I'm testing DFS to know if it can handle my current shared folders. First I see I can not create a tree-like DFS directory. I want to organize the current sharings in the DFS in such a way they UNC appears grouped by servers where they originally resided. For example I created the DFS root \\company.net\Files. Now I want to create such a DFS UNCs: \\company.net\Files\Server1\SharedFolder1 which points to \\server1\SharedFolder1 \\company.net\Files\Server1\SharedFolder2 which points to \\server1\SharedFolder2 \\company.net\Files\Server2\SharedFolder1 which points to \\server2\SharedFolder1 But within DFS console I can not create such "3 steps …

Question SP3
by Guest Bassman- 1 reply
I received the SP3 download thru auto updates and believe (think) I installed it ok beacuse in my system info it shows, XP Pro Ver. 5.1.2600 , Sevice Pack 3 , Build 2600. Even in my system properties it comes up as SP3. The question is, when I go to Windows Update & check my history,it shows Service Pack 3 w/ a red X & yellow ? mark. If I click on it the info is an error code of 0x80080008. I've checked my Add/Remove programs list and it is listed but doesn't have an "Installed On" date listed. So, do I have it, or is it just saying I do.Or,do I have a messed up installation? It appeared the install went fine,no errors or warning popups. Thanx !!

by Guest Linn Kubler- 8 replies

Hi Running Windows 2003 Standard Server as a Domain Controller, File Server and Print Server. I'm frequently having the spooler service crash and cannot figure out why or how to correct it. Oh, running service pack 1. In the event log I get the following error message: Source: Application Error Category: (100) Event ID: 1000 Description: Faulting application spoolsv.exe, version 5.2.3790.1830, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.2.3790.1830, fault address 0x0003248b. All I've found so far on the Internet was a suggestion to delete everything in the C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\PRINTERS directory. Tried that but it didn't help. Anyone else run int…
