by Guest JeffB- 1 reply

Curently have 8gb system (basic) partition that needs extending. Can this be done? The HDs are not physically connected to the actual system. It uses shared storage located on an IBM AS/400. They allocate the space and I usually use diskpart to extend a data partition. Read a couple things and looks like system partition may be different. If it can't be, what are my alternatives? thanks

Currently the only way to see if there are errors in the event log i have to check the event log on all the servers manually. Is there a way to send out an email notification or some form of notification when critical errors occur like a hard drive failing?

Redirection, Synch, Profile Failures

Vista sp1, Server 2003 & 2008 dfs: The users have roaming profiles with the GP redirecting profile folders to a dfs location on the network \\domainname\dfsfilespace\Users\(username)\... profiles are also set to come from \\domainname\dfsfilespace\users\(username) recently redistributed locations on the server and now everthing has gone to crap. Users get messages at logon saying that the server copy of their profile has not been found and they will be logged on with a temporary profile, even though the network and folder appear available. Even moreso running a file sync gives hundreds of Access is Denied errors. This happens even for a newly…

XP extremely slow boot up
by Guest RDT- 12 replies

I have booted up in safe mode and that seems fine and takes a normal amount of time to get up and running but when I try to boot up through the normal login screen it takes forever as in grass grows faster. Once it gets to the screen where the users are listed, it virutally freezes. The color bar doesn't even move. You can here the HDD making a pattern of noises (dttt...dt, dt, dt, dt). It has done this for awhile and would evetually boot but now it takes 2 or 3 minutes just to get to the password window and it goes to sleep before it ever boots. It's a Compaq laptop that orignally had ME on it. It has a 20G hard drive and 256M of ram. It's been great for…

Internet Connection Sharing problem
by Guest Theslaz- 3 replies

I'm trying to set up a AD-HOC connection between 2 laptops. Have a connection; just can't get them to share the internet. When I go into the Wireless Network Connection properties and attempt to check the box to allow other network users to connect to the internet I get this error "ICS can not be enabled due to an IP address conflict on the network" It appears that the address "192.168.0.1" is already in use. How can I check what/who is using this address? My desktop computer is connected to a wireless router that is using that address. If this is the problem; is it possible to change that address so that it becomes available for my AD-HOC connection. …

We use offline files to allow travelling users to access their data. However, when they connect to network to pick up email, Windows insists on connecting them to network version of offline files. This is too slow! They need to stay on Offline version of files, even when network connection is made. Is it possible to prevent synchronisation and auto connection of Offiline files? -- Patricia D

Hi, we have windows domain with 300-400 computers (deskop and laptop), 10 printers, 20 servers... Now we have to save on one place all software and hardware inventory data, so any software will help us. Requirements for software: 1. work without installing client (agent) 2. find out data from remote PC such as computer name - IP address - CPU - RAM - HDD - OS installed. 3. useful graphical or data (rows) report for step 2 (getting inventory data) What do you suggest for? All three requirements are mandatory. Thnx all!

Relationship of net framework updates
by Guest Lil' Dave- 0 replies

Round and round I go. It was broke essentially, but stuck with it. DriveImage 7.0 and its net framework that came with it, MS version 1.0. The imaging worked fine, its the verification that failed in many occasions. Usually, it was an onboard hard drive I was saving an image to where the verification failed. USB and Firewire connected hard drives, no problems. Yes, I checked the onboard hard drive with both 3rd party software, chkdsk, and disk scan. Many times, I thought I tracked down the problem, but shortly reoccurred again. Basically, the problem as it turns out is the updates to net framework 1.0, 2 updates so far. The fix, despite MS mislead…

XP Install Catch-22
by Guest littlenemo- 2 replies

I'm ;not exactly a newbie, but I'm kind of stupid regarding some things, so please bear with me. I'm planning to install WindowsXP SP2 on some new hardware with clean (unformatted, SATA) drives. The motherboard is an Abit AB9 Quad GT which will have an Intel Core2 quad processor. The logistics have me a little puzzled. I'm not sure if I have what I need to get through the installation without problems. My hard drive will be a SATA drive. At this point, I don't have any floppy drive (not sure if I need one). I have only an LG SATA DVD ROM optical drive. I know the motherboard supports SATA drives, but I'm pretty sure I need some software drivers as …
