Question regarding CRM (v3 - I believe) on Terminal Server (WIN2003)
by Guest Cary W. Shultz- 2 replies

Good morning! I have posted this question to both the CRM and to the Terminal Server newgroups. Have a client who runs Windows 2003 Enterprise Terminal Server and has the CRM Client installed. Something like 45 users use this config. Someone (not me!!!!!!!) made the Domain Users group a member of the local Administrators group on the TS box. So, yes, anyone can technically shut down this TS box! Not good. I found this out yesterday while dealing with a printer issue. Anyway, I can not make any changes to this as - it is suspected - the reason for doing this (Domain Users - local Administrators group) was to be able to manage the CRM client (r…

XP shortcuts to folders and shares to My Network Places
by Guest Tester- 1 reply

Hi there, Is there a possible slowdown of an XP Pro machine by adding shortcuts to folders and adding shares of recently opened documents to My Network Places? If yes, then it is applicable for shortcuts to folders/ shares for both LAN reachable servers [100 Mbps] or only WAN servers through speeds less then 10 Mbps? Should I set up mapped drives instead? Thank you, T

Windows 2003 R2 - Missing Disk Space on System drive
by Guest zinger-uk- 12 replies

Hi, We have a problem on one of our Domain Controllers which is running windows 2003 R2 server (SP2) The server almost ran out of disk space I have managed to free up enough disk space to give us some breathing room, but the MAJOR problem we have is Windows Explorer is reporting that there is only 602MB free on the 8GB System © drive. But if you run chkdsk it reports that 4314608 KB is available (i.e. 4GB of space) Does anyone know how we can get the windows to recognise that we have 4GB of free space and not 602MB If we do a dir /a /s it reports that 4,029,885,992 bytes are used and that 631,287,808 bytes are free The drive is formatted w…

Cannot PING Windows 2008 RRAS server IP
by Guest N D- 7 replies

I hope somebody in here can assist as I am tearing my hair out. We have three servers A B and C. All are running Windows Server 2003. We use RRAS to setup demand dial between the servers to enable "private" communication between them as opposed to the Internet facing network traffic on the single network card in each. Each server has it's own private (192.168) subnet on the demand dial interface. This has worked fine for a couple of years but now we are going to introduce a fourth server (Lets call it D) running Windows server 2008. I have added the server role to get RRAS installed and configured. I have added a Demand Dial link on the server to connect…

Spooler service stopping on Windows Server 2008 Terminal Server
by Guest Jason A Ash- 9 replies
Hello, I've recently run into an issue with a client who is running Windows Server 2008 as a Terminal Server. What is occurring, is the print spooler service is stopping, with no errors or warnings. Restarting the spooler service allows printing to continue. The client is accessing a Foxpro based program, and we are using Remote Application for the remote users, rather than a full desktop. The server is up-to-date on Windows updates. Other clients, connecting to an identical Terminal Server, running the same application, in the same office, have no problems with the print spooler stopping. Any thoughts? Thank you, Jason A.

Need to Clone Laptop HDD 1 2
by Guest Kerneldebugger- 37 replies

Is there a cloning program, such as Acronis True Image or Norton Ghost, that will clone a laptop hard drive to a USB hard drive using a CD disk, or do they require a floppy drive? I'm very familiar with Drive Image, which runs in Caldera DOS, but I don't know how to make a USB drive visible in DOS. I've ordered a Lenovo r61 for a college student, with XP Pro, and after I decrapify it, add SP-3, Avast and ZA, etc, I'd like to make a clone. TIA

Logo Key+E - Administrator Error
by Guest Roscoe P. Coltrane- 3 replies

Hello...in XP Home SP2, when I try to use the Windows key+E to bring up Windows Explorer, I get the following error message: "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator." Other logo key combos seem to work ok, like the +R for run. Is there a registry adjustment I can make that will resolve this? TIA for any assistance that can be offered!
