Hi, We have a w2k3 std member server (ML370 G5, 2Gb RAM) on a domain network. We are looking into utilising virtualisation to install a terminal server on the network. My questions are: 1. Can it be done? 2. If so, can someone be kind enough to point me in the right direction please? Thank you in advance, Lyj

Add RTM Hyper-V to 2008 "Without Hyper-V"
by Guest William Fields- 1 reply

I may have messed up... I just did a brand new 2008 install "without hyper-v" because the one included in 2008 was beta code. I was assuming I'd be able to download and install Hyper-V either from MSDN subscribers area, or from the public downloads area. Is it possible to download/install RTM Hyper-V to a an install of "Server 2008 Without Hyper-V"? If so, what do I need to download and where can I find it? Thanks.

I just wonder whether it will effect printing and file sharing if we disable nullsession in windows server 2000 and windows server 2003? Does anyone experience any issues by doing so --diable nullsession in registry? I noticed in window server 2000, restrict anonymous is set o but in window server 2003, there are two strings: one is restrictanonymous=0 and another string is restrictanonumous=1 What is the different? Thanks!

Can you remove DNS from Domain Controller and reinstall to repair?
by Guest Saral6978- 14 replies

I'm having issues with the DNS server service - when set to automatic it won't allow my DC to boot - hangs on Preparing Network Connections. If I set it to Manual it boots up and I can login and then I start DNS manually after login. I believe the problem started after a recent MS Update. I'm toying with the idea of uninstalling DNS and reinstalling while it is still a DC with Active Directory. Can I do that or no?

On a network with a 95 based file server, and xp machines, files are moving into different directories on their own. At first I thought the files were dissapearing, but they are just found in different directories. It keeps happening, is there any bugs like this or is it human error?

KMS Question
by Guest Tim Patterson- 1 reply

I have just set up a KMS service instance on Server 2008. The question I have is can this instance activate both Vista clients and Server 2008 clients or do I need one KMS service for Vista and another for Server 2008. The reason that I am confused is that in my Volume Licensing web page I have a KMS key available that is attached to Vista and also one for Server 2008. When I installed the KMS service on Server 2008 with the slmgr tool it says I have a group B license (which is fine for the versions of Server 2008 that I am using). Any insight into this would be very helpful! Thanks, ~Tim

change file names in folder
by Guest TomC- 7 replies

I have scanned many documents and saved them in a folder. Little did I realize at the time that the file name that was generated places semicolons in the time field. Now I need to copy these folders to a disk, and the software tells me that semicolons cannot be a part of the file name. Is there some way I can globally eliminate the semicolons in each file name in the folder or will I have to manually change every file name individually? Thanks for any help you can give me. Tomc

Moving Vista to a new domain
by Guest Strunk- 1 reply

Hello, We are planing a migration to a new domain due to some company changes. We can move all XP's with the ADMT from Microsoft but that does not handle Vista installation (i know that version 3.1 of the ADMT tool will be able to do that but that demands a Windows 2008 server and we don't have that). Does anyone have an idea on how to move the Vista PC's and Vista user profiles to a new domain without lossing settings ?. /Strunk

I can download window server 2003 from the following links:http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/r2/trial/installinstruct.mspx, but the files that you will download are in ISO image format and should be burned to a CD-ROM before installation. I hope that one expert can give me the steps of how to burned the iso image into CD-rom? Thanks in advance.

I know I can delete the data currently saved in the autcomplete feature but I would like to edit it. If I mispell on an attempt to "login" it will save this as a future option which I do not want obviously. At other times the selection I would like to have is not available? I would like to be able to edit the data in the drop pick box, is this an option?

Client login on TS triggers msiexec.exe problem
by Guest Kjell- 6 replies

Hi I'm having this wierd problem with my TS Win2003 Std Ed Some but not all clients triggers 1, 2 or 3 processes of msiexec.exe when login in with remote desktop (mstsc.exe). This might be a completely normally behaivour, but the pattern I have makes it a problem, and I've never seen this before. 1. The msiexec.exe locks up 50-70% of the resources, making it into a severe lagging situation for all. 2. It never stops, the same host machine (client) will trigger the same set of msiexec.exe running for identical period of time every *** time it's login in, it doesn't matter if I'm login in using a domain account or a local account, it's the client mac…
