I'm trying to create a document and linked to a websitethat allows people to add information to it, save it and have those changes reflected when the next person views the document. Any way to do that? I don't even know who to ask... Any ideas of how I can structure this or does it require something within the site rather than linked? I tried an excel spreadsheet but when attempting to save, it saves on my desktop, not the site. When I return to the linked version, it is unchanged.

Overriding the home directory
by Guest Judg- 3 replies

I hope someone can help me on this one. I our Environment the homefolder is set within the userobject in AD. Now as we are an International organisation, people from all over are connecting to our datacenter using Citrix and Terminal Services. We saw that the mapping of the homefolder is decreasing the performance of the servers. To stop te mapping of the Homedrive which is set in the user profile, we created a local policy on the server to set the Terminal services home drive, as it overrules the home directory setting in the user object. I have tested this on one server and it is working as expected, now i was trying it on another server and there it…

file ownership

I recently migrated an old XP system to a new one. The old XP system was able to login to the SBS server as a workgroup computer fine, but the new system couldn't access server shares due to authentication problem. so I tried to log the new system into the server with a domain logon which worked but is a different user id. The problem now is twofold. The migration wizared put all the files in the local logon folder (documents and settings/user1) where as the domain logon puts them in user@mydomain.local's folder. What is the best way to have the domain user take over these local user documents (.doc, .jpg etc). Also when logged onto the domain th…

Send Message - Admin Rights
by Guest JohnB- 4 replies

Our users work exclusively through RDP. For some reason a handful of users were given local admin rights, so that they could send each other messages using Task Manager. I've discovered that sending messages using that message does require Local Admin rights. Is there a way to give users rights to send messages using Task Manager, without giving them local admin rights? TIA

Every time I try to access an access database file through terminal server with a regular user I get the following message: "Windows can not access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." If I logon with account administrator I can access the database. If I place the user in the administrator group I can access the database but i do not want to do that. Any help would be appreciated.

linkd questions
by Guest phavel- 6 replies

Hi, I am looking to use linkd to solve a copying issue. Is there any way to get an overall view of all the links that have been created on a system, and likewise is there any way to remove a link once it has been created (other than destroying the source directory). I know there are ways around the latter, just wondering if there about what options I have with this. Thanks.

Device = Unknown in Device Manager
by Guest Vernon CThomas- 2 replies

In Device Manager, I have an entry that is under category Unknown. The detail is "OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller". I have no idea what this is about but I recently installed a HP All-In-One printer and it ended up with the same "Unknown" type entry. It didn't work at all and I'm still unable to install it. This doesn't seem to be an HP issue. Thought / Comments?

csrss process -- I/O Reads getting extremely large
by Guest matthewtec- 3 replies

On a couple of computers I've checked, the csrss.exe process in the task manager sits at around 10,000,000 "I/O Read Bytes". I checked this out because I happened to notice on my laptop that it grows continually and within a few hours will even get up near 1.5-2Gb [1,700,000,000]. I've run a virus checker and did a full scan. Nothing changed. I am hoping someone can help me with letting me know some things to check -- perhaps I changed some settings one day and didn't realize the consequences until later. I just don't know. I also don't know if this is 'bad', but it just seems odd. Any help whatsoever that anyone can provide would be just great…
