thumbnails view problems in windows explorer
by Guest zapspan- 1 reply

When I navigate to a folder that contains photos, in thumbnail view, only some of the thumbnails are displayed, whereas they used to all be displayed. Now, some of the photos show no icon at all, and some show a generic photo icon but not the thumbnail. I am sure that these are all photos, because if I double click on any of them, they open in my default photo viewing software. Any ideas ? Thanks, Mike

by Guest indytoatl- 4 replies

Is it possible in any way shape, form or fashion to map a network share without using drive letters? Our company merged with another company and we use some of the same drive letters for our department shares. Without completely changing everyone's environment, can this be done? We looked at Windows Mount Points but the directories had to be empty. Domain = Win2003 FileServers = Win2003

Problem with SP3 and Diskeeper
by Guest Jeff Barnett- 11 replies

I just installed SP3 on an XP Pro SP2 machine then rebooted (twice). All went well except that Diskeeper 9 gives an error message about a snap-in problem when I try to run an analysis. I get an option to continue (as well as inform Microsoft, etc.) and continuing works in the sense that I can do the analysis and defrag my disks. Has anyone else seen this problem? Diskeeper Corporation has no updates posted on their site and I don't know if this is their or Microsoft's problem. Anyone have a clue as to what is going on? TIA -- Jeff Barnett

Installing XP x64 on SATA RAID 0
by Guest Paul- 5 replies

Attempting to install XP x64 on a new computer I just built. I have created the RAID array using the onboard RAID controller and it is listed as 'healthy' during bootup. Windows Setup loads all the necessary files, then crashes before it can enter the installation screen. I get a BSOD with the following error "STOP: 0x0000007B (etc), (etc),(etc)" I understand this to be an error due to an inaccessible boot device. So, I try again this time hitting 'F6' to install third party RAID drivers. Setup tells me it will "load support for the following devices: none" I hit 'S' to specify drivers and it tells me it cannot find a floppy drive installed on my ma…

Folder name change messes up my nano
by Guest Hizonor- 2 replies

I am running XP. I have tried to install iTunes on my computer so I can use a nano. However, I tunes cannot find the "My Music" folder because windows has changed the name to "Donovan's Music." I cannot change the folder name back to "My Music," since it is a special folder. To get around this, I followed iTunes instructions and created a new user on my computer, named it "Musicman," and sure enough there was a "My Music" folder under that user that allowed me to sync to the nano. However, the next time I accessed iTunes, it would not open because the "My Music" folder had been renamed "Musicman's Music," and could not be changed back. I bought a rem…

My operating system is Vista Ultimate 64X I don't know what happened but I lost the Restore function and also the Snipping Tool option that was listed in the Accessories folder. I attempted to do a restore and found it missing in the folder so I typed rstrui in Search and was able to perform the restore to a date prior to this happening. After the restore, it is still missing, as is the Snipping tool. How can I restore them both to be included in the Accessories/ System Tools folder? Jack

svchost.exe & store.xml - Laptop Hard Drive
by Guest Dave Onex- 14 replies

Hi Folks; I'm troubleshooting a problem with my laptop's hard drive not going to sleep after 5 minutes. To that end I broke out Process Monitor to take a look at what is accessing the hard drive. What I'm finding is repeated attempts to CreateFile; C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Provisioning\store.xml that results in a NAME NOT FOUND error or NAME COLLISION. I actually created a store.xml file in that directory thinking that would make it go away - it hasn't. Does anyone know why svchost.exe is continually trying to create a file called store.xml and how can I stop it? Thanks! Dave

Duplicate Printers with Different Session Numbers
by Guest Joelness- 3 replies

We have a terminal server used by our external employees for their accounting information and email. It is used by roughly 50 different users. We have it set so TS redirects their local printers to the server. In the last week or two we have noticed that just about every user has at least three copies of their local printers, all listed under different session numbers. I need to figure out a permanent solution to get rid of the excess printers so our users don't get confused as to which printer is the real one.
