VPN between 2 win 2008 servers
by Guest tim.howes@gmail.com- 0 replies

I have two win 2008 servers. I am trying to setup a VPN between them to pass files securely. They are in seperate locations and both have multiple network cards as shown below Server 1 NIC 1 - Public IP (89.xxx.xxx.xxx) NIC 2 - Internal IP (192.168.0.1) Server 2 NIC 1 - Public IP (219.xxx.xxx.xxx) NIC 2 - Internal IP (192.1681.1) I want to setup the VPN using a preshared key not a secure certificate between the two internal NICs. I have tried running through the routing and remote access wizard but cannot find a way to get it to work. Can anyone point me in the direction of any online step by step guides that will help me out here. I h…

fatal error in WinXP repair
by Guest gtforce- 1 reply

After a PC crash, I restored a backup from external hard drive. Upon restarting Windows, I immediately got errors, so I tried repairing WinXP. It gets through to the restart, and I get the "cannot find 'asms'" error (as I've seen on several threads here). I changed the path to C:\i386\ and it found it ok. But now it gets stuck on "The GLOBALROOT\DEVICE\CDROM0\NT5INF.CAT catalog file could not be found..." I tried copying this file from another laptop onto a CD, but it does not recognize it. I've read a few suggestions about slipstreaming SP2, but the recovery CD I've repaired from is WinXP Pro including SP2 - Shouldn't everything already be on there? …

If this is the wrong forum, please let me know what the correct one is. We have a new server that we have installed Windows2008 with IIS7 and we have everything working fine except the SMTP server will not send mail. We need this because 2 of our ASP.NET apps email to people who request it. We're making no progress - any suggestions on what to check or how to track down the problem? One note, our company mail server (Exchange) is on a totally different server. thanks - dave david@at-at-at@windward.dot.dot.net Windward Reports -- http://www.WindwardReports.com me -- http://dave.thielen.com Cubicle Wars - http://www.windwardreports.com/film.htm

Win98 My Computer icon not working correctly
by Guest Z.K.- 6 replies

I have a machine with Windows 98. When I open My Computer, I see all the drives correctly, but when I click on the C: drive, it tries to access a nonexistent setup.exe file instead of listing the files and directories on the C: drive. Is there a way to fix this? Properties did not really help much. I am thinking that it must be in the registry, but I am not sure. Z.K.

Hi! All, I have Windows Server 2003 R2 installed on a 300 gb HDD which has been mirrored. The server has 2 partitions C Drive is 50gb and D drive is 250 gb. Now I am running out of disk space on theC drive and would like to use the partition magic to shrink D Drive and extend the C Drive. I would like to know if this is possible using partition magic. I hope it will not cause any problems to the RAID? Appreciate any help and advice. Thank you Regards Harry

Hello, We want to test a new database application on our LAN using a Win2003 server. The idea is to simulate normal use, and then heavier-than-normal use and (if possible) to get a report of what happened during the to see if the machine can manage the load increase. Are there any tools on a Win 2003 server to get such an report? Are there any freeware tools, which allow such monitoring? Thanks in advance Roger T.

I have a windows small business sever 2003 service pack 2 that is rebooting almost daily. It reboots around 5-6am almost every morning. There is no backups or scheduled tasks running at this time or user activity. The server would be at its least active time. The UPS logs show nothing strange but the problem has only been occuring the last month or so. All that is recorded in the event viewer is: Event ID: 1076 The reason supplied by user DOMAIN\Administrator for the last unexpected shutdown of this computer is: System Failure: Stop error Reason Code: 0x805000f Bug ID: Bugcheck String: 0x0000007f (0x00000008, 0x80042000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000…

Power Schemes and 'Out of Range' monitor message
by Guest Big Al @ RHS- 4 replies

Hoping someone has a bright idea on this one. The school has recently updated the computers in one of its suites with HP DC5800 SFF desktops (running XP SP3) with existing 15" Di-Fusion LCD monitors. In Control Panel -> Power Options -> Power Schemes, the 'Turn off monitor' option is set to 20 minutes. When the monitor has been switched off after that time and the mouse is moved or a key is pressed, the monitor displays the message "Attention. Input signal is out of range. Please change signal timing." The only way to restore the display is either disconnect and reconnect the power cable on the monitor or reboot the computer. But here's th…
