XP SP3. Everything's been fine, up until today. If I use Windows Explorer, then try to look at My Computer, it freezes up! I haven't done any updates recently, the only thing I was playing around with recently was an external HDD, which can be a bit troublesome at times. Thanks a lot for any thoughts, best regards, Robert.

New to Terminal Services - Where to Begin
by Guest powlaz- 4 replies

I could use a lot of direction with setting up a Windows 2003 Terminal Server. Can anyone point me to an online guide or recommended reading? We are a small company. We have a Windows 2003 domain but we don't use group policy. A lot of the blogs that I've found go into detail about setting up Group Policy after running the Terminal Services setup wizard. Do I need to have this? Is a second NIC required? I thought I read somewhere that one NIC should be connected to the network and the other should be directly connected to the Internet. We don't use roaming profiles. I don't really have a central location to put them. Will this hurt us? I hav…

TS connect to a License Server from DMZ
by Guest Dag- 4 replies

Hi, what needs to be done for the following scenario: A web server in DMZ needs to be setup to use a Terminal Licensing server so more than 3 people can connect at once. It is not apart of the domain and it is a firewall between the web server and the licensing server. I've tried to open up for port 135 and port 5000-5100 in the firewall. I've set up the rpc dynamic ports to be static on both machines( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/154596 ). And rebooted both of them. But it still can't find the licensing server. What have I missed? [MS WinXP Home SP2; OE 6; IE 6; Dell Dimension XPS T450MHz Pentium III; 385MB RAM; AVG Free Version 7.5.503; spybot S&D; ad-aware; cable modem; WordPerfect8; Lexmark Laser printer "Optra E310"; Windows Media Player]. I hope this is the correct forum for my question? I accidentally ruined my Word CD and miraculously Microsoft had consented to send me another one for free...except they discontinued it and didn't have any left to send me. I don't mind being without Word since I have WordPerfect8 as word processor; but I seriously worry about losing what I have in Word. Any suggestions? Thanks ever so much! Adela

Additional DC in different subnet
by Guest news.optonline.com- 5 replies

I'm installing a new DC in SUBNET2 that will act as a secondary domain controller for our DC in SUBNET1. Are there any special concerns being that the 2 DC's are supporting the same domain but on different subnets, connected via a VPN? Do I need to do anything to make sure the servers in SUBNET2 know to use the new DC in their subnet ? Thanks Nick

WindowsXP SP 3 Just a couple of minutes ago I attempted to use fixmbr command from a Recovery Console cd(a burned cd image file of recovery console) everything went fine. I saw the command prompt window flash and it even gave me the warning aboutm proceeding. But whrn I rebooted grub(linux bootloader) was still there. There is nothing wrong with my computer mind you, I can boot in to either system. The only reason I am doing this is to make ntldr my bootloader. Why didn't fixmbr work?

Windows Server 2008 Task Manager Problem
by Guest Gary Bouchard- 2 replies

I don't know if I'm in the right group or not, as I cannot locate a specific Server 2008 category. Many times, when I attempt to bring up the task manager I am running into a problem. I can right click the task-bar and select task manager from the context menu or hit CTRL-shift-ESC, or CTRL-alt-Del and select task manger, or start it from the run line, but the result is always the same... task manger starts minimized in the task notification area, and when I right click to restore or close it, the context menu appears, but task manager never comes to the foreground. If I mouse over the task manager Icon on the task-bar, it shows a gauge that is j…
