Hi. Whenever I click on an internet link in an email message or open a web site from the run command, the window always opens behind the already open browser windows. I would like it to open on top. The taskbar does blink orange, but the window stays in the back. I am using Firefox 3.0.3 and have it set to open new pages in a new window. Thanks for any help.

IE 6 settings in a TS environment
by Guest Nancy R- 0 replies

Hi folks, I apologize if this is the wrong forum but I have an unusual issue that only occurs on our TS servers, it does not happen on our client workstations. We are running 2 Citrix PS 4.0 servers on Windows Server 2003 SP1. What is happening is every 1-2 days the Internet Explorer settings get changed so that Outlook Express is the default mail client instead of Outlook. Our end users then run into problems when trying to send e-mail from within MS Office and other programs. We have a very limited group of users (6) who have the ability to even view the IE Programs tab, let along change it. I have spoken with all of them and they assure me the…

Trouble Restarting via RDP
by Guest TonyCC- 2 replies

When I restart my Windows Server 2003 SP2 server via remote desktop (terminal services) my session will close but the server won't restart. But reconnecting via RDP is not possible anymore. The only solution is by going to the console locally or via the remote Dell DRAC board, and then do a restart from there. The Shutdown -r from a command prompt also works. Any ideas?

Excluding certain files from Backup
by Guest AllenH- 5 replies
I run Windows One Care in Xp. Every month it reminds me to back-up, which I do, and the process is neat and fuss free. However, from time to time I might have something large like a movie file or large number of photos which I don't want backed up to my back-up DVD because the files are so large, and I usually make separate copies of these things anyway. Is there some way in which I can select the files I DON"T want backed up before I start the back-up process? Grateful for any advice.

startup problems

Recently my computer at start up has done one of the following: 1. continuously reboot before windows log in 2. stuck on windows xp load ribbon indefinitely 3. option of safe mode, last known good config, normal, all of which, upon choosing, causes the entire system to reboot again. Eventually after many many tries I can use my computer, but the sneaky thing likes to reboot automatically after updates in the middle of the night, which i then wake up to not being able to get into windows. I'm currently running several scans but nothing malicious seems to be found. Also, whenever I finally make it to windows, I get messages about my system recovering from a …

Windows Server 2003 Print Server Troubleshooting
by Guest DSI Admin- 4 replies

Greetings! I have an interesting problem I thought I would share to see if anyone has any suggestions. Please bear with me, I've been banging my head on this for a while. Our printing network consists of a Print Server setup on our SDC running Windows Server 2003, SP2 (don't yell, I didn't set it up and now I'm stuck with it until I can free up another server), different types of laser printers including Konica-Minolta, different models of HP and a couple of odd-ball models, and clients all running Windows XP Pro, mostly SP2, some SP3. A few weeks ago I had to replace a corrupt driver on the print server for the HP LaserJet 1022n, of which we have ab…

Problem with network transfers in Windows 2003 Server
by Guest Kevin Schuman- 14 replies

Ok, i'll start off with my network topology. I have a Windows 2003 Server (SP3) running a 5TB RAID5. I have 1 Windows XP workstation, 1 Windows 2000 Workstation and one Ubuntu Linux workstation. Please note I did not have this problem when I was running XP Pro on the machine that is now running 2003 Server, so I have almost no reason to believe it is a hardware problem. I am running simple file sharing (This is a home network, I had to go to 2003 to handle GPT volumes unfortunately). I have administrative accounts on all 3 windows machines with administration permissions and the same password. The Issue: When I login to one of the workstations…

Stop Word raising open docs to forefront when opening new doc?
by Guest demurf- 2 replies

I have XP 2002 SP3 and I am running Word 2003 and IE 2007. When I open a new document in Word, Word raises all of the open documents to the top of my desktop, even if they are minimized. Also, when I open a new document from a website, if all of the open Word documents are minimized, Word will highlight an open document in my start pane and wait until I click on the highlighted document in the start menu to unminimize it before it opens the new document. Any idea on how to prevent both of these actions?
