AVG 8

AVG 8 seemed to have gone a bit Italian on me. The annoying information bar at the bottom (which you can only hide after it opens with the interface) was advertising some game called Shark Shooter and it was in Italian! It updated itself today in the normal way. Has AVG itself become a victim of some spammer/hacker? Chose to update again and was told no updates were available. Closed it and re-opened and this time there is the normal option to upgrade to Internet security.

Can't boot into windows xp
by Guest mlc- 1 reply

Ok, the system was working fine and then the next morning I booted it up and a screen came up and said that windows could not start due to windows\system32\config\system was corrupted. I tried recovery console and that did not show my windows installation. It did not even prompt me for a password. I tried running chkdsk and that didn't work. If I try md test it fails with access denied. Then I tried rebooting and going into windows install, pressed f8 and then I wanted to try to repair the installation. However that option was not given to me and it showed that I had an unpartitioned drive. I could only create a partition. I don't want to lose my stuff on…

Windows 2003 domain. Introduced the first Windows 2008 ent. 64bit server into my domain. This is just a Windows 2008 member server that I'm using for Virtualization with Hyper-V. I purchased a volume license copy of Windows 2008 Enterprise 64bit w/ Hyper-V. Server has been up for about 2 months now and i just noticed event ID 122293 recently and this event ID is beining generated daily for a couple of weeks. We don't forsee growing with Windows 2008 server for a while and Vista computers. So I don't think I need KMS and just want to clear up this alert. What do I need to do? Event ID: 12293 Description: Publishing the Key Management Service (KMS…

Hello Community, does anyone have a detailed description (beside the one from BMadden) how the License Check is done for a Client? I have an issue with a Dual NAT connection and the Winlogon does never happen, so I assume it's stuck at the validation check of the TS cal. Thanks for the replies Carsten

Hello, we have two sites, connected via vpn to our main site. On the remote sites we have a regular, daily 2k3 backup. Every Friday we want to copy the "friday.bkf" to a share on our main site. copy and xcopy always stopped (this happened on both sites!!!) - even robocopy has a problem: Error 64: "The specified network name is no longer available" (ERROR_NETNAME_DELETED). As we used it this way: Source : d:\backup\ Dest : Z:\ Files : Thursday.bkf Options : /V /TEE /COPY:DAT /Z /NP /R:10 /W:30 the job restarted. But the created file is invalid. Tried Q325487 without any result. No entries in event logs, helping to solve th…

updates

I recently left our computer on for 2 days while we were away, in order to send a scheduled fax. When we got back there was a message that windows had been updated and the computer had rebooted although I had not requested this. Is this normal for windows xp (home edition)? Windows automatic update is on. I had thought that the automatic updates would only happen when shutting down. The rebooting caused the fax program to exit and the fax didn't get sent.

Desktop documents/folders no longer available?
by Guest MILK MAN- 3 replies

Before i upgraded to Vista from XP i I backed up My documents, favorites, pst etc etc and i also backed up my desktop items. To do that i opened my Windows explorer and dragged and dropped all my misc docs and folders on the notebook desktop and copied them onto my external HD. I checked my external HD to verify that all these critical docs etc on my desktop were now safely backed up. I opened several docs and everything seemed to be working fine. 4 Days Later: I have since then upgraded from notebook from XP to Vista and now after copying my desktop docs and folders from the back up drive onto my laptop with Vista they seem to be pointing to now…

We have 6 PCs that are of various flavors of Windows. They were all separate and independent workstation. Recently, we purchased Small Business Server 2003 and created network accounts for our users. Now, when they login they have two profiles listed under Users (Vista PC, for example). However, their new network acct does not have all the desktop and functionality that they had with their local profiles. I know I can probably just copy the various folders from their local to their network profile but I understand there is a better way. What is that better way? I hear it is available in Small Business Server 2003. It's a pain to copy those folders…

Can't Open HOTMAIL E-Mail
by Guest George- 4 replies

Just this past week I've been unable to open my individual Hotmail e-mails - neither the new unread or the older already read e-mails. When I click on an e-mail the dotted rectangle encasing the "from" or "subject" appears but nothing happens after that. Repeated clicks bring the same result. No problem getting into hotmail after entering i.d. and password, but after that zilch. Can't get into "sent" mail either. Using XP with OE6. Have done nothing unusual recently that I can think of and that might be the cause of this problem. No problem with other e-mail accounts. Any help appreciated. GB
