no keyboard functionality after windows update
by Guest akira1251- 8 replies

Earlier today, I brought my laptop off of stand by and was greeted with 2 messages. The first was an apparent virus threat that I was able to take care of with AVG. The second was that I would need to restart so an automatic update could be completed. Since the reboot, though, I’ve had zero functionality from my keyboard. Any idea what’s going on here?

Microsoft Fax
by Guest John Dean- 3 replies

Using Microsoft Fax from Word 2003 under XP SP2. I've been faxing the same number once a week for several months without a problem. Now the fax doesn't work at all - I can bring up the fax dialogue and go through it, but when I click 'finish' to send the fax, nothing happens - no noise, no activity, nothing. I've gone through the fax troubleshooter and can't see anything there - device manager says the fax modem is "working properly". Any ideas? -- John Dean Oxford

ntbackup.exe only backs up directories--not files
by Guest ida noe- 3 replies

Decided to test the efficacy of ntbackup and tried an experimental restore of a backup file. Surprise: there were NO FILES backed up, just directories. When I checked the contents of the backup file it contained all the directories but not a single file. And yes, I did click open all directories and check-box ALL files in the backup I was creating. Whaaa? (Thanx for your attention).

Does anyone know what this message means and if so is there anything that can be done to correct it. Almost each time I close Outlook 2003 in Windows XP SP3 I get an error message Unexpected Memory Leak. " An unexpected memory leak has occured. The unexpected small block leaks are: 13-20 bytes: TObjectList x 2, Unknown x2" Any suggestions would certainly be appreciated. Thank you in advance for your support. HankL

Running Windows XP SP3 and Office 2007 Every new user on my network gets a home folder created which they have full rights to but since installing Service Pack 3 they cannot 1) Save a file to this network folder using any Office 2007 application. 2) Rename a file in there home directory. They can save to other network locations and they can use another program like notepad and save to their home directory without any problems. Has anyone seen this or know of a solution? Enrique

I've virtualized a w2003 for testing purposes (vmware server on debian on ibm x206). I noticed a gread performance loss, and I suspect this loss is related to disk virtualization. I'd like to do some performances test, but I'm not very experienced with perf. counters. Which counters should I activate? Is anywhere some good doc? tnx Ago

I Installed windows update Service pack 3 and immediately lost my ability to create a print window in my CAD program using ANY printer. The "position print window" button does nothing. I can print in other programs do not require the print window. I also lost my ability to restore my computer to an earlier date.

We are using a print server with Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2. Our users are on Windows XP. We are using separator sheets on our printers. Most of our users have their name displayed on the separator sheet. However, we have a few users whose separator sheets display the name "Administrator". Can someone tell me how I can change the display name to the user's name? Thank you in advance for any help.

Hello, If this topic is not in the right newsgroup, could you please suggest where else I can post. Thanks I'm attempting to put together a VBScript that searches Active Directory for a specific group of computer objects. I found this script, that I'm trying to modify so it my needs. In the script, if I use the LIKE statement to find any computer objects that start with BBX, the script fails when it trys to execute with -> C:\temp\z.vbs(13, 1) Provider: One or more errors occurred during processing of command. Does anyone have any idea why I'm getting this error, and how to fix, or can suggest another way for me to retrieve a group of computer objects …

retrieving profile after XP recovery
by Guest jamatthebeach- 2 replies

I just had to preform a OS only restore and have lost access to my original account. I can view it by going to "Explore all users" and all of my data is still intact, but the profile doesnt register through the normal "user accounts" applications. The biggest problem is that all of my data (on both hard drives) has become unaccessable. When I try to open the folders I get an "access is denied" message. I have tried creating a new account and changing the path to reflect the location of the old profile, but it doesnt work. Any help would be greatly apprieciated! -- Jason

Uncontrollable scrolling in all apps
by Guest DSolymar- 2 replies

I have an HP Omnibook 6000 laptop that is running Windows 2000 Professional. The computer seemed to be working fine until a couple of days ago when it became impossible to select anything because the cursor would automatically scroll down any menu in any program and cycle through all the options continuously. This happens in Internet Explorer (selection goes all the way to the bottom of the page and it's impossible to scroll back up without holding down the Ctrl key at the same time), Windows Explorer, and all apps. It even happens on startup, where I have a choice to select Windows 2000 or my old Windows 98 OS; the selection bounces back and forth unco…
