windows 2008 Terminal Server suddenly had no drive space
by Guest slj333- 4 replies

I am wondering if anyone else has seen this or knows what may have caused this. On our W2k8 TS server (current on MS patching), we have ~30 users running a published application (MS Navision). Yesterday afternoon, a user got the message that the server was out of drive space. I logged into the console, and there was 0 disk space left. I had been in the server earlier in the day and there was 18GB of space left. I did a search for large files and found no unusual ones. I then calculated the folders (starting at c:) and found that there should still have been roughly 18GB of space left. I deleted a few unncessary files to see what would happen, and immed…

Attempting to lock down various w2k3r2 laptop(s) using the Bastion host template (standalone, no domain) with secedit which has some settings under the /machine/system/currentcontrolset/services/lanmanserver/parameters registry hive key namely: RequireSecuritySignature EnableSecuritySignature EnableForcedLogoff AutoDisconnect AutoShareWks RestrictNullSessAccess and using supplemental .cmd scripts that run reg.exe or regedit.exe to set some of these parameters as well ... we are finding basically that no settings for this lanmanserver/parameters hive key are taking. Notes from a previous programmer who has left the company indicate that he had similar probl…

I am working a couple of users who have 4 GB to 6 GB network files that they want in their Offline File Cache so they can work away from the office. I know this 2 GB limit is fixed in Vista but they don't want to move to Vista. Is there another way to get around this 2 GB file limit in Win XP? Is there a KB document available on this as I can not find one. Thanks for the assistance! -- NC Beach Bum

I know I'm in the XP Newsgroup but I need help. I can't sign-in to the Windows Vista Newsgroup. I've tried on two computers (both WinXP) and when I try to sign in using my hotmail address and PW (like I do here), it takes me back to the Newsgroup but I'm not signed in and can't post any messages. Any ideas? Can I only access that newsgroup from a computer that is running Windows Vista? Thank doesn't sound right. Thanks for the help. -- MacKenrick

HDDs switch off - but they shouldn't
by Guest Tracey Woodmason- 3 replies

Hi I'm hoping that someone just may be able to point me in the right direction to solve a problem. I have a PC running WinXP Home w/SP3 and I have set up the Power Settings such that my HDDs DON'T switch off. All well and good so far...but they still do spin down and stop. What prompted me to write this message was that I have not touch my PC for perhaps an hour and a half but still the HDDs are spin up and then down again. On occasions they thrash about doing something but what I've been unable to find out so far. Am I missing something or is there another setting which overrules the one set in the Power Settings in the Control Panel? Also is …

Vista and Windows Mail issues
by Guest Lu Powell- 3 replies

I posted tghe following on the mail forum 3 days ago, and got no reply. Perhaps someone here can help: I have Windows Vista Home Premium (64 bit). Here are two recurring issues I need help with, none of which are earth shattering: 1. When setting View-> Text Size, using Western default, the text size is too samll for my feeble eyes. Resetting the size to Largest is okay though the setting won't stay. Merely moving from one folder or forum to another sees the text size changing back. 2. Views Bar, though turned off will show itself at random times. Thanks in advance for all your help.

Using Windows XP SP3 with IE7... I am unable to gain acces to the Vista newsgroups for unkown reasons (you click sign in and same page reappears with no sign in). So I would like to access the newsgroup thorugh Outlook Express (at least to resove the problem). I cannot find how to Open Outlook Express, it is not in the start menu, and trying each exe in the Program Files\outlook express did not work. I searched Microsoft, and it is not a seperate download, but part of IE 7. So, what are my options to install/repair/open outlook express? thanks bob

When I install IE 7, none of my programs work

I downloaded all the updates to my WIN XP computer, but with the addition of IE 7, none of my 3rd party programs worked, i.e. Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, SnagIt, etc. They wouldn't even open up. As soon as I uninstalled IE7 and some other updates that automatically accompanied it, I could then successfully use my programs. Can you please tell me what's going on? Thanks in advance.

Persistent image of a lock on my screen
by Guest psychdoc- 5 replies

In the center of my screen, there is an image of a box - with a lock inside it. For approximately 15 seconds, the lock remains shut. Then, without my doing anything, the lock closes and remains so for the same amount of time. The cycle goes on and on. There are no messages accompanying the image. Attempting to put the cursor on it are fruitless. I ran virus scan - which turned up nothing - although after having done so, the images were no longer present. They have, however, returned. Rebooting does not make a difference. Control Alt Delete yields nothing. I have shut down Zone Alarm but the images persist. The images don't seem to have any functi…

Offline files synchronization fails for 4 files, "access denied"
by Guest mct@pioneerprogramming.com- 22 replies

I have a client who took her XP Pro laptop home over the weekend and made changes to 4 files which are in her My Documents folder. Her folder is on \\server\home$\username\My Documents. \\server\home$ is the share, with Everyone having full control of the share. Her My Documents is being redirected via group policy with Basic redirection to that folder. The folder was automatically created by the policy the first time she logged in, and the files were moved automatically to that folder with no problems. It has worked well for over a month. When she connects to the network, the warning appears in the system tray saying offline changes need to be synch…

Language bar malfunction
by Guest Ruth- 0 replies

I use Word 2003 with XPPro, and use the language bar all the time. On Sept. 8 or so, we started having problems: 1) Does not load and has to be repopulated with my frequently used keyboards every time I start the computer; 2) will only register the Unicode Keyboards that come with windows XP; I have 2 alternative Hebrew keyboards and one alternative Greek Keyboard installed. Regional and Language options lets me select all of these, but when I apply and close the dialogue box, they do not appear on the language bar. Between Sept 1 and Sept 8, automatic updates added a slew of updates, including Service Pack 3; on Sept 1 we installed Kodak EasyShare …

We have a recent issues where the users Home drive, mapped via their profile for Home drive is only mapping to the share level ie \\server\home\ and no \\server\home\%username%. This is a very recently problem and appears to be only occuring on XP desktops. Doesn't seem to be an issue on terminal server profiles. All this as worked for 3 year before this problem started occuring. Could this be a client side patch?
