I have scheduled tasks configure with the LocalAdmin account and they run fine either being logon or not. However, I need these tasks to run under a less priviledge UserAccount and they need to run even when the user does not logon. What permissions do I need to give to the UserAccount? Thanks

Currently we are seeing a memory leak occuring in svchost process via Task Manager in Windows 2003 sp1. Upon investigation, we found out that svchost's services are as below: - Application Experience Lookup Service - Background Intelligent Transfer Service - Cryptographic Services - COM+ Event System - Server - Workstation - Network Connections - Network Location Awareness (NLA) - Task Scheduler - System Event Notification - Windows Management Instrumentation The svchost consume up to 200+ MB in 10 days after reboot. Anybody have any idea how to overcome this issue. Thanks -- Alex Loh --------------------------------------------------------…

Windows Server 2008 and redirected printer names
by Guest Saucer Man- 7 replies

Is there a way to prevent the redirected printers in a client session from displaying a number which changes after the word "redirected"? This is causing an issue with applications that remember the name of the last printer used. The application might remember "redirected 2" and the next time a client connects the print job fails because it is now called redirected 3". -- Thanks!

Have No Power Options Control
by Guest Stan- 1 reply

I just reinstalled my OS (XP-SP3 with all current updates) on my laptop and when I went to configure my Power Options, it will not save any of my changes/additions. BTW, I am signed in as administrator with all rights. I have always created my own custom power options on all of my computers and have never come up against this before so I have no idea…. Any ideas/help would be appreciated. Regards,

Reclaim partition space on SATA disk, WS2003
by Guest Mark- 2 replies

I have a client with three logical partitions on a single SATA disk. The original OS partition (C:) is 10 GB and is getting full. I'm planning to install a new disk and move the data on one of the logical partitions (E:) to the new disk. I'd like to reclaim the space in the emptied partition (E:) and make it part of C. I can't seem to find a software utility (e.g. Partition Magic) that supports such operations on SATA disks in Windows Server 2003. Anyone got a recommendation? TIA. Mark Peters

virtual memory
by Guest Gordon Biggar- 17 replies

I write a lot of Word programs (Office 2000) in which I am inserting photos, etc. Of late, I am receiving virtual memory warnings, the system saying that I am low on virtual memory, and that it is going to have to increase same. My programs are not terminated, however. I have a 200 gig hard drive (C:) with 260 MB of RAM. There is 87% free space, and my Word files are only a few meg, or so, in size. Virtual memory on my C drive is set for 400-450 MB. I read in the HELP section that the pagefile.sys should preferably not be located on the same drive with other system files. Since I have another hard drive (E: 4 gig free), I set up a file on that drive (450…

I have a mysterious problem on my Vista Business SP1 - Danish When I try to connect to one of our Windows 2008 servers, mstsc hangs on the Vista. I have tried to run the mstsc as an administrator and with the /admin but with no luck. I can connect smoothly to our Windows 2003 servers - it is only the 2008 servers that is giving me the struggle. The problem is as follows: I start the mstsc with windows key+R then run the command mstsc /admin. The start window is showing up, and I type in the server i want to connect to, then i choose "Another account" and type in my admin username with domain prefix and password. Now the mstsc window stops running (no…

Nero backup freezes
by Guest Hamish- 1 reply

I have been using Nero backup for 2 years, to make two backup DVDs a week. About a month ago it was making a backup disk, burnt it OK, but hung up during the data verification stage. I came to the computer two hours later and the DVD burner was still spinning. The computer was so hung up that in order to clear the hang I had to pull the power cord. After that, I re-loaded the Nero suite, re-set-up my two backup jobs (each about 3 gB), set one of them up to run right away, and it hung up again. I have checked the backup disks and they seem to contain the proper data. So the program still writes the backups OK. It's just that it does not complete…

files locked

I have seen an more cases lately where files on a server share (2003 r2) say they are currently in use when this does not appear to be the case. I have had users complain about this as well. In some cases I am very doubtfull that someone actually does have them opened since no one else should even have right to open. Excel files and word files... maybe even some autocad files. any suggestions?
