I have a Dell Dimension 8200 computer with windows XP Pro (SP3) and current MS Security Updates installed. When I see informative information about Vista usage and operations, I save these files to my current computer for future use. I should note that I have NAV 2006, BoClean, SpywareBlaster, Adaware SE Plus, and ZoneAlarm installed on my computer Unfortunately I am seeing something not noted before when saving files from the internet. The problem file icon is similar to the icon of io.sys and msdos.sys files in the root directory of the windows XP Pro. The problem files have either the .htm or mht extensions. These files cannot be moved, deleted,…

RSM eject command line errors, Help please
by Guest CLarke- 1 reply

In my backup scripts for Windows 2003 server we use rsm eject /LF"Library_id" /Astart and it ejects the tapoe all the time. When I send the same in Windows XP it says Additional arguments required. I have no idea what additional arguments are required. It is an HP USB DAT 72 Tape Drive, and it works perfectly on a Windows 2003 server, but not on Windows XP. I even tried the Guid and changing the command to /LG"GUID" but it still says additional arguments required. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

8,000 plus images in "C"'s hard drive????????
by Guest flowerbrackob- 8 replies

Was searching for some specific photos and found them easily then I looked further and it displayed 8,000 more that are stored in here. I could identify a lot of them from at least 5 yrs. ago. Many were Logos, icons (even for back-n-forth arrows), smiley faces, gambling logos, stationery sample swatches available, some pics from old e-mail attachments & forwards, images from Kodak's order forms and sample pics from their software to order on line , as well as Picassa, & Wal-Mart photo services for orders, albums, etc. icons from everywhere for navigation. There are more but I think I gave you the jist of the question. If any of the symbols/icons h…

rsm

I found a great backup script at http://www.infoshop.co.uk/products/infoshop/scripts/bn-backup.htm. I have to hard code the GUID for each tape, no problem there. But another web article I was reading said that sometimes just the tape GUID was not enough. But a logical GUID maybe required. If I format the tape myself using RSM, then is there usually only one partition (unless I set the format differently) so I only really need the tape GUID and not the logical GUID? Thanks,

Gurus, Running Windows XP Pro SP3 on a 2GB RAM laptop. After boot and I login and once the desktop settles down, Task Manager reports I have 1.5 GB RAM available. This means the OS itself is using up 512MB RAM. I have already set to manual startup as many "unneeded" programs and services as possible. Looking in Task Manager, I pretty much see the minimum amount of processes that I can cut it down to. What else can I "tweak" on the system that will allow me to eke out more overall available RAM? -- Spin

Uninstalling Windows Search 4.0
by Guest Howard Brazee- 1 reply

My computer is very slow, and the drive is always working. Also, I haven't figured out how to quickly get my old Search function. So I tried uninstalling Windows Search 4.0. I got a message listing a whole bunch of upgrades that may not work correctly, so I chickened out. How can I stop it from indexing all the time? How can I get the old Search function easier to start? -- "In no part of the constitution is more wisdom to be found, than in the clause which confides the question of war or peace to the legislature, and not to the executive department." - James Madison

2003 TS Licensing reinstall
by Guest rupert04@gmail.com- 3 replies

Hello, I have a Windows 2003 TS License server in place for my Citrix PS(Xen) 4.5 farm. All my users login to the farm from WYSE 1125's and S10's. I have a good number of licenses that are issued to devices that are no longer around causing me to be currently out of TS CALS. I know they will re-enter the available pool when they expire. The expiration dates are spread out over the next 3 months. I would like to get these licenses back know instead of waiting. The only way I can do this is by resetting up my TS Lic server. My main concern with this is what affect will that have on all my currently valid issued licenses to my WYSE units? Will they s…

Blinking Or Resetting Icons
by Guest ColTom2- 5 replies

Hi: Does anyone have an answer as to how to stop desktop icons from blinking or resetting? Sometimes when I open or close a screen some of my icons will revert back to a generic icon and then after a few seconds or so reset back to the correct icon. It more of an annoyance than anything to have to wait for a varying number of them to reset. I have tried changing my monitor screen refresh rate, but that has not prevented the above problem. Thanks, ColTom2

Device Cals being "used up" when I RDP for administration support
by Guest thundergod255- 3 replies

We inherited a client that is running a terminal server with 16 Device CALS. The server has an application on it that is accessed by most users in the office. I am worried that we will encounter issues soon for the following two reasons: 1. While most users take their work laptop home with them, a few workers may try to VPN and RDP to the server from their home computer. Based on my understanding of the licensing, we will need to purchase additional CALS for them because it is a new device. 2. As IT Support for the office, we have 2 or 3 techs that may have to remote to the server from time to time for administration support. I noticed that the…

I have a 2003 domain and 2 2008 terminal servers. Right now, we are using 3 different servers for licensing. I want to set up one of my domain controllers as the license server so servers and clients can detect it. Can I install 2008 TS licenses on a 2003 server? If so, how?

SP3 with SOTEC laptop
by Guest Robbabob- 4 replies

I used to think I was computer literate until my SP3 update on my SOTEC laptop presented a problem. Of course, I didn't think to ever create a backup of my files, I've only created restore points... nice egg on my face now. My computer is about 6 years old. Upon restart after installation of XP SP3, the screen says that the \windows\inf\biosinfo.inf is missing or corrupt. The screen also says to attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM, but my computer only came with Recovery CD's. I don't want to perform a Recovery until I know there are no other options. I can edit the bios and even save it, but that d…
