DCOM Server Process Launcher does not start.
by Guest Neil- 1 reply

Uninstalled Symantec Client and reinstalled. DCOM Server Process Launcher does not start and shows it is starting. Due to which PING does not work neither does the DHCP server running on the domain controller works. Workstations are not able to ping to the DC. Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated for me to get this DCOM service up and running. Thanks in advance

Issue with Task Manager
by Guest Mark D.- 3 replies

Just recently I've noticed that when I open the task manager by pressing ctrl, alt, del - the window opens but part of the window, the upper part that normally contains the various tabs and the title bar, is missing. This is bizarre and cannot attribute this sudden change/error to anything specific. Any one out there have any ideas as to how, if at all possible, to fix this problem? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mark

Hi all, I have a Belkin ergo keyboard, Model #F8E208 and would like to disable 3 keys it has in the upper right hand corner.. from left to right just over the keypad, they are "Sleep", "Wake-up /www", and "Power" well I keep hitting the power button by mistake and it shuts down the computer.. so I would like to just simply disable it. I did not install any special software for this keyboard, so assume something in XP will let me accomplish this. ?? btw, I am running XP Pro, SP2 Keyboard is set as "Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard" in all the four machines this keyboard controls through a KVM switch. I assume I'll need to d…

Primary Domain Controller Problems
by Guest christopher_board@yahoo.co.uk- 1 reply

Hi all. I am having a few technical difficulties concerning our Primary Domain Controller at logon. Our network is currently set up with 2 domain controllers one which has the DHCP and the DNS configured on it. The second domain controller only has the DNS configured on it. Where I work is a school so we have GPO set up to redirect the desktop folder and the programs menu to a location on the server. The desktop and programs gets redirected to the primary domain controller which has the DNS and the DHCP configured on it. This works most of the time and re-directs the folders to the server but sometimes it does fail and redirect it and then when you refresh …

Making an Image for Manufacturer
by Guest James0- 2 replies

Good day everyone Here's what I need to do. We are purchasing 150 desktops from Lenovo. I need to prepare an image using our volume license of Xp with all our programs installed. These computers will also be joining our domain. I am told I can send the image to Lenovo and they will install it on the computers before they are delivered to us. I would like to hear from anyone who has done such as this before and your opinion on the best way to do this. I should be getting one of the machines to set up the way we want it, and I was just wondering about the best way to handle it after that. Thanks and have a good day!

I've tried the online utility from, I believe, secsecurity but that doesn't work. How do I restore the icon and link for the Windows Firewall in Security Center? Thanks, -- Dennis

Suggestions on how to deal with a low disk space problem on a system drive
by Guest Bill Fuller- 3 replies
Unfortunately, I left the system drive size on my Dell Poweredge at the default (13GB). That is fine, until I later discovered that applications such as Sql Server 2005 do not have an option for installing components on a drive OTHER than the system drive. Service packs and application installations, even if not on the C: drive, also seem to consume space. So my questions are: 1. Short Term Solution: Is there any files (such as sp or app installation) files that I safely delete? 2. Long Term Solution: How can I increase the size of the system drive without having to completely rebuild from scratch?

tsshutdn command
by Guest Brad Pears- 4 replies

In a power fail situation (we seem to have them often where we are located) I want to run a script on our terminal server to notify the users of an imminent shutdown and then actually shut the terminal server down. To do this I thought I would use the "tsshutdn 120" command to shut the terminal server down in 2 minutes. The actual script this command is embedded in will not have run until after having already been on UPS battery power for 5 minutes so that should give users plenty of time to get off the system. However, I want to ensure that the server can be powered back up unattended by the attached Smart UPS once power is restored. I ahve my UPS config…

ActiveX is installed but runs only for Administrator
by Guest Scott- 1 reply

We have recently replaced a Terminal Server. After installing Terminal Services we installed Adobe Flash Player and a QuickBooks ActiveX control. Both work if a user with local Administrator rights logs into the local machine. Both work if "Administrator" logs into the domain. Neither works if anyone else logs in to the domain - even other Domain Admins. Console vs. terminal session makes no difference. The domain controller has not been changed, so any domain Group Policies that were in affect for the old Term. Server are still in affect for the new one. We know it has to be permissions/security - but we've tried everything we can think of. We'v…

ALWAYS STARTS DOING A CHECK DISK
by Guest MAVERICK- 1 reply

Since the last Windows XP updated, my computer always starts doing a check disk to E disk, no anormal phrases when chkdk starts . My unique hard drive is partitioned in 3 C,D, and E, my program files are in C and D&E are for personal files. I tried to make some checkpoint restores before last windows update and these failed because after of restart the system says it couldn't do it. I also tried to make a defragmentation and I couldn't because the system says that I have scheduled a check disk. I would like to know how I undo this check disk command
