How can I useing the registry, force a particular theme and menu style on... I am in a corporate enviroment, NON AD, all local accounts using novell... (yuck) For instance, I have a PC that the Classic start menu has been enabled by the user. How can I force this to be the XP style menu? It was enabled by going by right clicking on the task bar, then picking properties and clicking the start menu tab. They keep picking the Classic menu option there.... It is not applied using gpedit.msc in the administrative templates. Also would like to force the XP style theme as well... Which registry keys would I need to look at? To force the Start menu opt…

I find this Group and the individuals participating in it, very, very nice and helpfull. thank you. Now I am probably going to sound very dumb but please, bare with me. I own the computer and programs but I am a Family man who shares the computer with my Family. I am the individual who uses the computer the most. My mother, a senior citizen, very rarely uses the computer but I do try to get her to learn and use it. I have other family members across Canada and I try to get my mother to correspond; e-mail, video clips, etc. I also have a daughter who is only with me every couple of weeks,f or the week-end or hoildays. Here is my Question, "Do they…

Searching Dupes file finder for 2 different file sets (!!!)
by Guest Frank Callone- 0 replies

All the duplicate file finder tools I have seen so far allow only to find dupes within the same directory tree or even partition. What I need is a dupes file finder which finds only those dupes which have a twin/copy in one file set (e.g. the recursive directory tree D:\newfiles\*.*) and the other twin/copy in another, different recursive directory tree (e.g. D:\proj\*.*). Dupes within the same directory are of no interest. Does someone know such a "special" dupe file finder ? Frank

Hi all, I would like to know how I could install the FTP service and have it work without using the Windows Component Wizard. I did come close, I had the FTP service to show and I was able to run ftp in console but I couldn't start the FTP service. Anyone know some kind of guide or maybe (but I would be surprise) a installer to install the FTP service. Thanks,

User profiles being changed on the fly on bootup
by Guest PeterBBailey- 0 replies

I'm using Vista, but, a lot of the employees in my department are still using XP. Sometimes a user will log in and they'll notice that they've lost their desktop icons, and, they've lost all their IE favorites. If I look into their Documents and Settings folder, I'll see a new profile created. Originally their profile was named with their username plus a dot, then the name of the domain. For example: "pb4072.intdom." That's my profile folder name. Now, sometimes, a user logs in and suddenly, they have a new profile. So, in the example I gave above, instead of "pb4072.intdom," it's just "pb4072" as the name of the profile. This is incredible, and frustratin…

I used to get pop-up calendar reminders when booting up WXPSP2. There was a reinstall of XP several months ago after my hard drive crashed. Before that I depended on the pop-up reminders. How can I get XP/Works Calendar to resume that action? Thanks for the help. deano77.

lsass.exe error + Support article kb/883268 help

I've been plagued by an "System Error: lsass.exe : Object Name Not Found" message that causes my computer (WinXP Home Edition SP2) to restart in an endless loop (3 times in 2 weeks!) and the only solution is to format the drive and reinstall. I have just done that but am paranoid the machine will recieve the error on the next restart. Heres the backstory: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/newsgroups/reader.mspx?dg=microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support&tid=49ee0155-3c50-4d67-93aa-b737346dbedd&cat=en-us-ms-winxp&lang=en&cr=US&sloc=en-us&m=1&p=1 A user suggested this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/88326…

I have 3 Win 2003 servers - where do i put MOM 2005
by Guest MSExchangeStudent- 6 replies

Hi The following 3 servers i do have (all latest updates) 1) Win 2003 Server with Exchange 2003 on it. All latest updates. (E-mail server) 2) Win 2003 Server. Pastel is on it with its SQL database component. 3) Win 2003 Server. I'm setting up Portal 2003 on here. SQL Enterprise is also installed here as Portal needs it I need to install and configure MOM 2005. On which server should be the most effective one. We do not have money for another box so it needs to go on one of these boxes. I read in the notes that MOM 2005 needs SQL to be installed with it. Seeing that 1) use a database of some sort as i understand it; 2) has allready a SQL component in…

W32time
by Guest John- 1 reply

I've just finished migrating NT4 Servers to Windows Server 2003 AD domain. There are no more NT4 servers in the network but Windows 2003 (Domain and Forest) still runs in interim mode. In this environment, there are some legacy NT4 (SP6a) workstation machines that aren't replaceable for quite sometime. Back in NT4 domain environment, I use W32Time.exe to sync with primary time server (NT4 PDC). Can I use w32time.exe to sync with Windows Server 2003 DC? The command "net time /set /y" works fine if I'm logged on as a user with permission to change system date/time. The problem is all users don't have (and can't have) permission to change time settings. I…
