Service & Scheduled Task Passwords Not Being Retained
by Guest S Sainsbury- 1 reply

We had to do a system wide password change a couple of months back, as such we had to update some of the services that use domain accounts and also scheduled tasks. Since then every time there is a reboot or a service restart, the service or scheduled task will fail due to a logon failure. So again we reply the passwords and the service or scheduled task works............... But as soon as the service or server is rebooted, or in the case of a scheduled task, the next time its due to run, again it fails due to a logon issue. This has been ongoing for some months, and as you can imagine causes problems, we simply cant use the task scheduler now. …

by Guest Gino- 1 reply

I login to my old parents with "Remote Desktop" to watch them on the camera but problem is that their IP address changes frequently. I need some software that would email me every now and then their current address automatically. I know that there are services that do it also but I prefer a software or some utility. Is there some freeware(or shareware) doing that? Regards Jino

Why can't i run card reader+flash drive at the same time?
by Guest kimiraikkonen- 0 replies

Here is a strange problem: First i've thought that it was because of Win2k's crappy drivers, then upgraded to XP SP2 Pro but the same problem, if i connect flash drive with my SD card reader (USB), the flash drive will not be recognized any longer. But if i run it alone or other USB devices like USB gamepad or 2 USB flash drive, it works OK. I also tried different ports with no help, the other USB devices or this USB devices works well with another system when connected together. I've checked system info with no conflict, only there are some IRQ sharings which haven't been problem since i plug card reader with flash drive at the same time. What should i do?…

Stop XP from resize windows when "screen" is locked/unlocked?
by Guest Ola S from Sweden- 0 replies

I open some applications in XP and move the application windows as I like them and some parts of the windows are outside the screen. If the screen is locked/unlocked (password required to have access to the computer again after the screensaver has been activated) the windows with some parts outside the screen is automatically resized so all parts of these window are within the screen. In my case I have two screens and resize/locate an application over both of the screens. But every time the screen is locked/unlocked the application window will resized and fit only to one of the screens. So I have to resize it again. And as I have requirement from the c…

Does setting up Message Rules in OE6 work for Spam Control?
by Guest p.jayant- 1 reply

I have set up rules in O E 6, asking O E to delete all messages which have words like Viagra, Cialis, Antarin, Swiss watches or Lottery either in Subject or in the Message content. But I still get messages from spamsters offering various products and services. I wonder, if there are any settings besides those which pop up in the box in response to the command "Create Rule from Message". I have filled up all the information and specified the actions required by O E but the spam doesn't stop. Some spamsters even have the cheek to use my own username as Sender with some fake e-mail address. Can't govt. agencies detect these spamsters and the judiciary impose exemp…

Hi We have a native 2003 domain and forest, and make extensive use of group policy to deploy printers using the built in capability of Windows Server 2003 R2. My question is, if or when we need to migrate printers from our single server setup onto a cluster or another server, what tool can I used to update the publications in group policy? Regards Chris

File System / Directory Security

I have spent hours trying to accomplish this with no luck. Maybe someone in here has this implemented and could help me out. The concept here seems so simple, but no simple way to implement it..... I have a Windows Server 2003. I have a folder created called E:\Projects. I ONLY wand a few people to be able to create/modify/delete files and folders from within E:\Projects, but everyone else to have read-only access. Once there have been sub-folders created (by only a few designated people) in E:\Projects, everyone else can have full control of the sub-folders. In other words..... E:\Projects\: Everyone = read-only, allowed user(s) = ful…

wbk668_bogus[1]

Lately I've been getting a number of files ending _bogus[1] (as above) in C:\Documents and Settings\MyName\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\0A70TSU1. I did a quick google and they appear to be Word back up files. Weird and wonderful things often appear in TIF but I am concerned about the _bogus[1] ending. Have Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware, SuperAntispyware, Spywareblaster, Windows Defender etc., all up-to-date and run regularly. Anybody seen this "bogus" tag before?

2k3 adprep in 2000 Domain
by Guest John- 2 replies

Hello all: We currently have two 2000 Server boxes and will be getting a 2003 x64 soon. I understand that to join the new box to the domain I will need to run adprep. However, is it sufficient to run the adprep from the 32-bit media, as the adprep available o the the x64 CD will obviously only run on a 64-bit machine/OS. The only guide I could find implied that what was necessary for the joining of this new computer is to run adprep /forestprep then adprep /domainprep. Is this all that is necessary? Are there any better how tos on this issue? Thanks.
