MS Outlook 2002 SP3 not shutting down
by Guest Tony De Shiro- 3 replies

I close the application after reading emails. When I attempt to shut the computer down I get the "End Program" box which identifies "Outlook.EXE" as not shutting down. I have to hit the "End Task" button to close Outlook, then the computer will shut down. There have been occasions when the "End Task" button hasn't worked and I have to manually shut the computer down by pressing and holding the power button. I'm running XP Home Edition SP2. Suggestions? Thanks/Tony

HI...I am monitoring a server in performance monitor, and here is what I found: there is a client/server application: client - app server - SQL server, when the client run a function of the application, the CPU at the App server climbs up to 25%, and stays for about 5 minutes before the client can see the result. During the period, the memory, disk counter at the App server and SQL server are all low, except the CPU at the APP server maintains at 25% for 5 minutes. My first question is why the CPU not jump up to 100% and finish at a shorter time? My further test is that I have two clients running the same application, surprisely, the CPU is still at 25%, but…

Problem With System Restore on My Cloned Drives

Recently I replaced the drives on my PC by cloning. The new drives boot the OS system without errors. All the partitions and associated files appeared to be fine, and I have not had any problems running any of the programs moved to the new drives. One thing that really surprised me is Windows did not require to be activated on the new drives. WOW! As I am having a problem I will make that a wow! For some reason the cookies associated with IE did not transfer to the new drives. This is not important to me but may give a clue as to the problem of concern. Upon trying to run System Restore from Help, shortly after this transfer the following error message was di…

Unable to see DLT7000 device on ntbackup

Yall My DLT7000 is correctly installed and I see the free media allocated. Once I start ntbackup it asks me for preparing the media since it was used on a different computer. Once that is done, I try to use the tape but, alas, the backup tab only allows me to use file (grayed out). As a consequence I am left without the capabilities to do a backup. System is WS03SP2R2 and I was able to run a full backup a day ago. Anyone has a clue on how to re-enable the usage of tape on ntbackup? Cheerio

OEM XP Reinstall
by Guest Tom Crooze- 20 replies

Comments appreciated I was given a 1.8ghz P4 by a friend who upgraded. It runs OK , but it's FAT 32 and looks like it's been upgraded from 98 ? It has an OEM sticker on the case , but no disks. I found a Windows XP folder on the HD. I slipstreamed SP 2 onto it and made it bootable , but when I ran it , it rejected the serial number. I confirmed what was on the case , and I also ran Belarc Advisor which got the install key from the registry. It looks like my only choice might be to reinstall to the same partition ? Is that a limit of the particular version of XP ? Thanks Tom

two OS options during startup
by Guest Matty- 5 replies

I upgraded from WinXP Home SP2 to WinXP Pro SP2. Now, when I turn on my compu, I get a black screen first asking me: Please select the OS to start: MS windows XP Pro MS windows XP Home Is that normal when you upgrade from Home to Pro? I thought that when I upgraded, that everything would be almost seamless - i.e., that my compu will know that I have Pro, and not Home and so should not be asking me which OS to start with. The MS Win XP Home option is useless anyway since the boot.ini has a "noexecute" entry for it. I thought I actually got two OS after upgrading to Pro (because of the startup message) but even when XP Home is selected, XP Pro gets l…

What Can Be Blocking Our FTP?
by Guest razor- 7 replies

Hello-- We are in the process of migrating our IIS server from W2K3 to W2K3 64-bit and we cannot figure out why we can no longer ftp into the new IIS server from within the same subnet? the FTP service is started, and the FTP Sites is started in IIS. From a command prompt, if I enter in "ftp <server IP address>" we get a messages that says connection refused by remote host. If we try to use an FTP program, the connection just fails. I used the 'netstat -an' command on the IIS server and it shows port 21 is listening. Any help would really be appreciated.
