by Guest Youka- 2 replies

While trying to fix a problem that I’ve been having with my PC (since resolved), I noticed that Device Manager shows that two drivers on my PC have been flagged with a yellow exclamation mark (!) These two drivers -- "Intelide” and “PartMgr” -- are listed under the category of “Non-Plug and Play Drivers”, with the following attributes: Device type: Non-Plug and Play Drivers Manufacturer: Unknown Location: Unknown Device Status: This device is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed (Code 24) How do I correct this problem?

Susceptibility to crashing - Explorer
by Guest Lester Stiefel- 0 replies

Have been using explorer to launch videos. This works fine for most purposes, however, On shutdown DEP comes online, and says It is shutting down Explorer. When I change setting to allow, or just have DEP stop explorer, the environment resets and I have to wait, then shut down windows a second time. I believe a good way to avoid this is to discontinue explorer launch of audio and video files and let the user manually launch the player they will use to play the files. The player associated or assigned to the file types can still be listed in a special control panel, but, again, the file would need to be played from the player instead of the explore…

backing up c:\windows\ntfrs
by Guest Brent Gardner- 5 replies

I have a Windows Server 2003 server that used to be a DC but was demoted and is now a member server. The machine now runs SQL Server 2000 and participates in SQL replication as both publisher and distributor. My tape backup software indicates it is skipping the contents of c:\windows\ntfrs. I know this is part of the file replication service. Is this folder backed up as part of system state? Does it need to be backed up separately? Should it be excluded? Thanks. Brent Gardner

I have a question on Scheduled Tasks. I have a scheduled tasks configured on a particular system which is running under the local administrator context. But there are other users who are not local administrator on that machines and when they login to this machine they are not able to execute these tasks if they want. Is there a way to delegate or give permission to a normal user (not a local admin or domain admin) to execute a scheduled task. This is machine is part of the Domain. Any pointers or help is higly appreciated.

Font size problem
by Guest Dan- 0 replies

I had a problem with some Adobe Photoshop documents that wouldn't open. What eventually made the problem go away was that I copied all the files in C:\Windows\Fonts to a temporary folder and then deleted them all from C:\Windows\Fonts. There were a few that the system would not allow to be deleted, but almost all went away, including Arial. I then copied all the font files back to C:\Windows\Fonts and my Photoshop file opened without giving me the error message as previously. Now I have a new situation that is a little annoying. Some of the dialog boxes in some programs display with a bolder, larger font than before. For example, in Adobe FrameMaker, in…

Windows 2000 DHCP - forcing DNS registration
by Guest ctvader- 5 replies

Is there a way to tell the Microsoft DHCP server to force DNS registration? We have a Windows 2000 DHCP server that has the computer with a pen icon next to all the addresses, which is telling me that DDNS updates are pending. We have other DHCP servers that register the clients fine. Is there a way to tell the DHCP server to use a specific DNS server? Thanks.

I'm trying to use the File resource manager to generate reports of the types of files that exist on our fileshares. When I open the mmc and select Storage Reports Management, I get an error window telling me to check my app event log. Username and Password fields grayed out
by Guest Pete, MCP- 0 replies

I read the thread on this forum addressing this issue. It had no solutions. I have searched Technet and MS Knowledge Base and found nothing. I Googled the problem and found no more than what has been offered on this forum (i.e. nothing). Some users on our network (about 10) are experiencing this. They start the computer from power-off. Windows loads normally and the Windows Login screen is displayed. The User name and Password fields are unavailable (grayed out). Rebooting the computer will normally fix the problem. No other solutions as of yet. We are running Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 installed. All updates and security pa…
