I just had to replace my keyboard/mouse combo but my logitech keyboard has no sleep button. I used to have the kids use it all the time to hibernate the pc. Now I can't put my pc into hibernate mode. Any help would be much appreciated

Running XP Pro sp2 Trying to copy the 3 CDs that came with my son's new Dell laptop, because the disks are guaranteed to be lost in the dustballs in his dorm room, and one day, he'll need them. I have no trouble making copies of any other CDs, but Nero simply refuses to recognize the presence of these particular disks in the CD drawer. I can understand that MS might copy protect the Vista CD, but it seems I should be able to copy the Dell driver & utility CD. What happens: - Upon inserting the CD, I get a "wanna continue?" dialog of one kind or another. I cancel this. - Start Nero, tell it "copy CD". The menu screen vanishes, and the CD copying…

I am running a corporate install into program files and when the process completes the basic folder permissions are set to everyone full control and not inherited from the parent however when I click on the advanced tab, this dialog box is blank. Is this normal and does it affect the basic permissions set on that account? When should the users or groups populate the special permissions window? Thank you in advance. Stuck.

I have a problem ... my windows XP system does not boot ..... neither in safe mode .... last known good configuration .... none if that sort works .......... i tried to using the windows XP disk to do a system repair .... repaired the boot .... and I also tried repairin the Master Boot Records...... still nothing works ....... Windows boot screen flashes for about 1 second and then the PC restarts ... does anyone know how to fix this ????

When I used to do a search, the particular name I was looking for would appear 'highlighted' on pages, which meant finding any references much easier. Since i have done a re-install that feature has disappeared. How can i bring back that highlighting please? thanks.

I have, in the past, successfully burned files to a CD as backups. I have used both writable and re-writable disks. After several "something's wrong with the CD" messages, I changed brands of CDs. Now, I'm getting a message that Windows is not allowing me to copy files. I have not upgraded or changed from Windows XP since the first successful backup. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Hello took me a lot of time in try to reach here because I have a real problem and I know sopemone can help me out ; for about 3 days in a row I have this issue ; My pc is really slow and it is impossible to reach the internet and do some work .. I thought was some kind of spyware but wasn't so I look in my windows task manager and I find out to my CPU it is at 100% and specially an area " ehrecvr.exe =system ...?????....what I need to do to fix this and what in a world cause this ....please help is apreciate...

I want to be able to start yahoo messenger, but after say one hour of use, that it will automatically shut down and not be able to open it for 24 hours, is there a program or a regestry setting which can achieve this?

hello. today I just changed my internet service from DSL to Cable, ISP named Time warner cable. I have 2 windows XP professional service pack 2s, a cale modem, and a Netgear router. when I used DSL, and connected 2 computers on the netgear router, it worked perfectly fine, but low speed, so we switched to cable, hoping it will be faster.. and soon as the guy from time warner cable connects the new cable modem to our router, he says it doesnt work and told me to try and just left. well I went to netgear homepage, searched in google, and I did everything I could but could not do it. If I connect the modem directly to one computer(this one), it works. pleas…

I have installed XP on a dual boot system and I have noticed the MSDOS prompt is missing from the start -> all programs -> accessories menu. However I can still start it from run -> cmd. Can someone tell me why it is missing and an easy way to get it back. Thanks gazza fl-coatey

hi, my pc contain 1 GB RAM ,3Ghz processor ,80 GB hdd 2 partitions. on clicking hdd icon its taks time to open .... but this problem was not there few days back .disk is almost empty .... 10 days before i formated contain 8 gb of data(inc os) . and on clicking properties of my computer it is not showing the size of RAM also. what tweak should i do to over come this problem.

I'm trying to help a friend setup a Planar monitor on an HP desktop. The PC works fine with the old CRT monitor. The Planar was a gift from a relative due to a death in the family, no CD, no instructions. I can boot to safe mode, set resolution, but not refresh rate. Everytime it boots to normal mode, POST is good, XP startup screen is good, then it goes blank with the popup OVER RANGE. I assume that to be Planar's way of saying Out of Range. I can and have gone through all of the on screen settings using the monitor's adjustment options. I don't know what some of those settings should be, like Phase. I can't find anything on Over Range in google …

Hi folks, Got a strange issue here. Running W2K Server, SP4, with Citrix Metaframe 4.0. The "Performance Object" for "Memory" has disappeared from the Performance Monitor. The Performance Objects jump from "logical disk" to "NBT connections". I'm not yet sure, whether other counters are missing yet. Any ideas...................

I am trying to backup a Win2003 Server system (that normally has files open on it) with Microsoft's NTBACKUP. I am getting the following messages: Warning: Unable to open "\\KCNGSB\C$\#SYSMAINT\WMBackup.ldb" - skipped. Reason: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. I've specified /snap:on in the command line. I found that the VSS service wasn't running on this new server build (I don't know why it should have not been started automatically). I started it, but still get the same error message.. The Windows docs say that open files should be backed up to a "crash consistent" state, rather than being skipped. …

I had to restore my computer ot the original factory settings. I lost all my files. Is thera progrma that is good at finding lost files such a ms word, powerpoint, excel, and picture/video files? -- Hans
