Cannot delete printer
by Guest Walter R.- 3 replies

In Control Panel, under Printers and Faxes, I show an Epson Printer, which is inactive. I tried to delete it. In the status column it shows as "deleting" but it is not deleting it. After I deleted it, and rebooted and Windows XP found and installed the printer, the same printer shows as "Epson Printer Copy 1" in Printers and Faxes. How can I get rid of the printer that shows as "deleting" but is not deleting itself. -- Walter http://www.rationality.net -

by Guest KS Sun City Ca.- 2 replies

Since installing sp3 i've been having a very long, 15-20 minute - boot time. I've uninstalled sp3 and still have the problem. I have a dell 600m laptop. now the boot time is very long - other than that the computer still runs fine, no other problems. I've been just letting it go - i'ts been several weeks, I searched the net for solutions with no result. Can anyone help with a solution to rid the laptop of the long boot time? Is there a registry or system file I can edit or fix to to get back to the short boot time. I've already done a system restore and last known good but to no avail. Am I the only one that's had this problem? Surely there is something so…

by Guest sarahandus- 14 replies

I have installed a 2nd hard drive to boot into Win 95, but so far I have found no way to install the 95 on the new drive. Pc always boots into the C drive with XP. Have tried a partition manager but that only made the 2nd drive disappear from the system. If I change the BIOS to boot from a CD drive the Win95 will start, but I get a message that it can only work from MS DOS. How can I manage this dual boot?

Light Blue "Welcome" Screen Delay at Startup - Windows XP
by Guest ggalv- 4 replies

My computer used to take about 2 seconds consistently in the light blue "welcome" screen for the past 2 years or so. Sometimes, it used to take about 6 seconds. And this mainly occured when my internet was down. So I knew that when the "welcome" screen took longer my internet was most likely down. Recently, after a few windows automatic updates, a service pack 3 install or I am not sure if when my DVD burner stalled the "welcome" screen is taking longer than usual, about 6 seconds. However, my internet is working fine. From your experience, what is the typical time it takes for the "welcome" screen to go through? Does taking longer at the "welcome…

I installed SP3 of the M/S site after receiving an auto update. The PC will now not load Windows. It just goes into the "Select last good copy etc." I used the CD and carried out a repair but now it gets as far as the marching ants and goes into a "re-start". One time I had the blue screen and the error message: 0X0000007B(OXF78D663C, OXC 0000034,OX00000000, OX00000000) Any help gratefully received.

Problems with XP Pro booting
by Guest Rstetson- 3 replies

While working on my Thinkpad with XP Pro this morning, something caused the machine to stop, then throw a blue screen. I've been trying to change settings, and unload software, including my anti-virus all day so here's the question. Is there anything new attacking Mozilla Firefox or Thunderbird on XP lately? Whatever is causing this has scrambled several files requiring reinstall of software, but my Antivirus stuff blows up halfway thru a scan. rsl

Uninstall IE8 Beta2 in Windows XP SP3
by Guest cmgith- 4 replies

I figured there would be a lot of posts on this subject, but after using the forum search multiple times have found nothing similar. Hope you can help me. A friend thought he was doing me a favor and installed IE8 Beta2 as a surprise. Previously I had IE7. I've got XP Home, SP3. The new installation of IE8 has caused more problems than I can fix fast enough (script errors, add-ons, incompatible searches, unrecongnized commands, etc etc) It's horrible, or rather to be fair it's incompatible with my computer at this time, and instead of reconfiguring every setting I can find to make it work, I want it gone. But how do you uninstall it? it's not in Add/Remo…

Virus? Trojan Horse Dropper.Agent.JOC
by Guest ggalv- 7 replies

I really need some help with this. My AVG Antivirus found this "Trojan Horse Dropper.Agent.JOC." It was located in C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Engine\6\Intel 32 Is there away to find out information about this? If it is a virus? I have done some research on the internet and have read several articles. I am not for certain if its a "false positive" and restore it OR if I should delete it from the Vault? Really Appreciate your help.

Boot up problem
by Guest Francis Marsden- 1 reply

(XP Home, fairly new system) Sometimes-about 1 in 7 boot-ups or reboots- the windows splash screen starts out very faded, and remains very faded for a long time (much longer than the duration of splash in a normal boot). Only then does the splash reach normal brightness and then everything proceeds ok. Otherwise the comp works well. I am worried that this is a hardware problem that could get worse. Any suggestions?

Google and Service Pack-3
by Guest Stu- 13 replies

Since installing Service Pack-3, I'm having trouble with Google, (as well as other search engines). When I search for something using Google, it returns some obscure, but remotely related sites. If I then click on "Preferences" then "save Preferences" (without making any changes), it returns to Google and things are working correctly. Similarly, if I try to use "Advanced Search", all I get is a blank screen, unless I do the "Preferences" thing again. All this seems to have occurred since I installed SP-3 in to Windows XP pro. Did something get set wrong during the installation? I've gone through all the "Internet Options" in IE-6, and everything look…

A couple of weeks ago I post a message about my Vista 64 Bit OS starting to not respond to any commands and having to force a reboot on a regular basis ending in a format/reinstallation. Someone suggested driver issues or imcompatable software. I have ended up going back to XP 64 Bit and after a few days all sorts of things started happenning, but the main thing was BSOD Stop c000021a fatal system error. Other issues started to rear it's ugly face RCP, SERVICES.EXE with shut down in 30 secs or so. Tried to do a last known configuration then recieved a BSOD 0x0000050 Win32k.sys and also a 0xc0000005 BSOD. I have had the motherboard replaced incase that…
