"Log on Locally" User Right
by Guest JayDee- 2 replies

My question is: "what -exactly- is the "log on locally" user right? Here's some background... We recently updated a policy to lock down the "Log on Locally" user right for our servers to include only "Administrators" and "Domain Admins" - The user right was currently not defined. Our thought was that this would lock the environment down so that only administrators could log onto servers at the console. The first problem we ran into was with the Citrix servers. Apparently, "Log on Locally" is required for clients to connect to citrix servers. This surprised me, since I thought a client session would be considered a terminal services session of sort (there is …

I have looked everywhere and still have yet to find a solution to my windows update problem. I am running windows xp pro sp2. I have reverted back to internet explorer 6.0. Since probably sometime in June or July I have been unable to get updates from Windows Update. Error Code:0x8007000B. This is OEM version of windows xp pro sp2. I believe maybe a digital signature is messed up or a windows update may have messed up, not sure? Please Help -- J Turner

This is a highly recommended update, since it resolves a potential root-kit vulnerability ("Purple Pill") in the ATI driver code. Vista-64 download: http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/vista64/common-vista64.html XP x64 download: http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/xp64/radeonx-xp64.html (Note: this same vulnerability exists in other drivers, including nVidia, but has yet to be addressed by other manufacturers.) -- Charlie. http://msmvps.com/xperts64 http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/profile/charlie.russel

60-70 Printers going offline last two nights
by Guest Sandy Wood- 6 replies

Our main print server, Windows 2003 R2, SP2, hosts about 130 printers. HP LaserJets, Xerox Document Centers. The last two nights I've seen over 60 of the printers sitting Offline. I can't manually put them online, I have to stop and start the Spooler service to bring them back. This happens to a variety of printers, it's not specific to a certain driver. I've got nothing in my App or Sys logs that gives me any clues. Are there any other diagnostic tools to dig a bit deeper into this? -- Sandy Wood Orange County District Attorney

outlook express seems to be stealing my email!
by Guest Noremac- 4 replies

the inbox in two of my email servers seems to empty whenever my home computer is connected to the web - until I switch on, I can access and read mail in the inboxes from other computers and even forward it (to my third, safe, address). This third address has never been used by outlookm the other two have. Any ideas? I have scanned for viruses and uninstalled and re-installed my McAfee security suite AND deleted all email account details from OE but to no avail.

wts msaccess & unc
by Guest patti- 0 replies

I am a confused newbie on wts. I am trying to automate some imports in access. My db is on server "a". The batch file i use to call import macros (which call vba mods) has been loaded onto a wts which has access installed. The wts isn't configured to handle unc. The batch file resides on the wts so that it can be run independent of an individual's pc. The db meanwhile calls on many files on many different servers. I will be conferring w/ it guy - but would like to better informed on the subject of unc & mapped drives w/ access & wts. In particular, what is the security issue of unc w/ wts? any help, links, examples, experiences greatly appr…

I enabled Dr. Watson in order to be able to get copies of the log and memory dump that was normally sent in by WER. I would like to switch back to using the standard WER now. To switch to Dr. Watson I simply typed drwtsn32 -i from a command line. Please let me know what I need to do to restore WER. Thanks, Matthew Laney

I just set up a Windows Server 2003 machine with Terminal Services running. I have 3 people who remote into this server from different locations. I need to map a drive that would be called the G Drive and all 3 people would have complete access to the folder. They would be able to add subfolder at any level. I need a simple way to do this. Thanks
