I have a new (10 days) install of Win2k3 Standard that is giving me a blue screen at boot saying that the hive cannot be loaded. First, what options do I have for recovery (I do have a full backup on tape) and second any thoughts on the cause? Interestingly, on this particular box, which is a development server not in production, I had this happen once before. That time I just did a reinstall but at this point I'd like to get to the bottom of the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, i have a problem with my Win2003 Server. The Firewall is deactivated and i try to connect via Telnet on port 11112 to our Firewall. But the connection ist not possible... I´ve tried to add the port to the list exception list, although the firewall is not active. With the Tool tcpview i have seen, that the port is not used on the server. Anyone an idea? Thanks. Micha

My grandson recently had to format and restore his Windows XP Home Edition. (The pc was caught up in a startup loop) He had a program that was very useful to check on the pc's systems (motherboard, drives, etc.) I have seen this program, and it did look to be a very sophistacated and useful check program. He didn't backup any info before he formated. He wasn't sure if the program was a freeware, shareware, or possibly one he had purchased online. He seems sure it was a program he had downloaded from the internet. The program was " PC Doctor for Windows ". I have searched everywhere trying to locate any such program on the internet. We have been using roaming profiles and redirected folders for awhile and we are noticing some serious slowness when a person goes to log into their machines. After you type in your password the message saying, "Loading your personal settings" is on the screen for a good 4-5 minutes before it changes to "Applying your personal settings". What can I do to troubleshoot this? Does it have anything to do with my roaming profiles or redirected folder setup? I created 3 shares on my server. One share is \\server_name\Profiles\ for my roaming profiles. I have the offline setting on this share set to, "Files or programs from the share will not be available …

Just reciently I deleted my desktop shortcut key that was in my quick menu down near my start button. I can create an shortcut icon, but I dont know the path to create so when I click on the button, it will bring up my desktop and minimize everything else, or put them in the background. I am an administrator of a Windows Server 2000 active directory network and do allot of remote administration on users computers. When trying to check the event log or check user groups on a remote machine using computer management I get an access denied error. Now I can still get to the admin share on remote machines and this method works perfectly on Windows 2000 boxes. The error is only on XP and Server 2003 machines. Something else that is broke is the ability to do remote installs of Symantec Anti Virus. I can not push out installs from my desk. I am running windows XP and recently it started unwanted IE explorer window openings. When I close a desktop window (i.e. my computer) then IE explorer will open a blank web page. What can I do to stop this?

I run WinXP Home and upgraded from FAT32 to NTFS a couple of months ago. After that, every few days some of my icons changed to the blank box icon. Not all icons were affected. My Documents, My Computer, Recycle bin were not affected. But many of my program icons were: most of Microsoft Office including the .doc and .xls files, but other programs (eg ZoneAlarm) were not. I have tried to do a system restore, but system restore isn't working (it is reporting an error and I think a previous restore point has become corrupt and I now have to remove all restore points). I have a box running Windows Server 2003, Enterprise version OS on an Intel Xenon processor. Which command I should use to determine the processing mode of the OS ? I need to know whether it is 32-bit or 64-bit ? Note that, Xenon supports both processing mode. Thanks.

Hi. I hope someone can help me. I am at the max space allowed, 12%. If I free up some hard drive space will I be able to use the function again? I am a computer novice. I don't have any backup for my information or system programs. I downloaded "titan" backup software from " Give away of the day"....and the program keeps stopping at a particular point and doesn't continue. I now want to go buy a external harddrive to transfer my computer contents to. I was told just transferring wont backup my programs on my computer. 1) is this true 2) what is the best way I can back up my computer so I can stop worrying about a crash and loosing all my families memories and my programs. About 2 weeks ago my OS crashed. Took it in and they reinstalled Windows XP. Since then my computer will not shut down on it's own--it will not restart--when I turn the computer on it asks me to pick which OS I am using--and it gives me an error message. Network Error: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it. Winsock Description: WinSock 2.0 Winsock Status: Running giFT is not running! Can I fix this on my own or should I take it back?????
