It's July 14 and I have these DEP messages going back to July 6. I got tired of having to hit enter twice, once for the error message and once to send a report to the oblivion of Microsoft. I learned that I could get on with using my computer by just moving the error message to the bottom of my screen and ignoring it. I've been reading the posts and I may have figured out how to resolve my problem with yet another Microsoft download. In fact, my problem may have been resolved, but Windows seems to be unwilling to let go of these error messages. Is there anyway I can flush these out of my system, or am I doomed to hitting the enter key about…

Multiple Monitor Support

Does anyone know if there is a way to specify which programs open into which monitors in Windows XP Pro without having to use any type of third party software. I work for a medical institution and we cannot load any additional software on these machines but we need a certain application to open in certain monitors. The problem is that we are using 2-3 video cards for up to 5 monitors, the program that we are working with has the ability to open in 2 or 4 monitors, what we are trying to do now is to add a 3rd or 5th monitor to work on things outside of that program. But everytime we add the 3rd monitor and restart, when the program restarts it opens in the …

Cannot Boot Sony Desktop Computer
by Guest ColTom2- 1 reply

Hi: Apparently I have done a dumb thing. I saw some files when I opened Windows Explorer at the end of Local Disk(C:) that had never seen in this location before. I made a new folder on my desktop and cut and pasted these files into it. One of which was "ntldr" and others as well. Now I cannot get my computer to boot up and am getting a black screen with the following: "DR missing" " ss Ctrl+Alt+Del to Restart" But when I hit the above I get the same error and cannot boot up. Hopefully there is a way out of this mess that I have made short of reformatting. Thanks, ColTom

fat32 to ntfs. Label problem.
by Guest Jumbo- 5 replies

Using "convert x: /fs:ntfs" I converted three usb flash drives to ntfs without problems. However when I tried to do the same thing on two usb hard drives the dos window asks for label name which is apparently is not the name asigned to the drive e.g. Backup. Where have I gone wrong. Googled and searched MS for solution but no help. Tried suggestion to find label for each volume and told syntax is wrong. Any ideas welcome. TIA Jumbo -- Silver Surfer

I am getting these every minute in our windows 2000 cluster event log The description for Event ID ( 22 ) in Source ( TimeServ ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: The event log file is corrupt.. any idea how to fix this? Its been going on for months now... thanks!

hi, I'm trying to fix a problem on my girlfriends computer - XP Home edition. During boot up something is changing the screen resolution to an unsupported screen resolution such that the screen goes blank. Of course I can't do any troubleshooting because the screen is blank. Any ideas how I can fix this without a having to reinstall the system because she only has dial up internet and it's very hard to update her system after a system install? 1. System Restore - I started the computer in Safe Mode and tried System Restore. However, the System says System Restore was not enabled and could not be enabled in Safe Mode. I tried enabling System Restore b…

We get a message saying that it cannot demote because it can not contact the domain, join workgroup before demoting. but when you try to join work group the feature is grayed out, you ant remove it till it is demoted. Seems like a catch 22 situation. any ideas?

Permissions removed from domain controler, how to fix
by Guest ThatsIT.net.au- 8 replies

I have a problem where a windows 2000 domain controller has had its hard disk permissions changed. By default everyone has full access to files on c drive. Someone has changed this believing that it was a security risk. He removed everyone permissions and gave administrators full control, and users read and execute. At next reboot the domain controller would not function, it gives a error I can not remember at the moment, but to do with security and asks you to reboot in directory restore mode. You can not log in and they have forgotten the system restore password or it is not accepting it. My guess is that the system can not access files it needs. Wha…

Is there a way to set this so that the files are always in alphabetical order in the folder? Thanks John

Causes for failure of return from hibernation
by Guest Jeff- 0 replies

I'm wondering what are the common causes for the failures of return from hibernation in XP SP2. I have a one year old notebook that runs XP MCE and I have it set up to hibernate when I close the lid. Despite hearing of people having problems with hibernation in XP, I have rarely had problems with the PC restoring itself from hibernation - till recently. As of a month or so, it has become not uncommon for the notebook to try to restore itself and after reading the file (progress meter goes to the end) asks me to delete the saved file and restart Windows. I would not complain except that this is a change for my system and I therefore wonder why the hib…
