TS Bandwidth requirements
by Guest Graham Clarke- 1 reply

Hi, I'm trying to obtain bandwidth recommendations for Windows Terminal Server 2003. An office has 256Kb of bandwidth. We are using an application, probably at 1024 x 768 @256 colours and I am trying to judge how many users that would normally support for concurrent connections. This isn't the only calculation I need to make so I'm looking for guidlines or white paper rather than a specific answer. Thanks in advance Graham Clarke

Preventing MSN / Bebo Hacking
by Guest Eos- 12 replies

My son appears to have a recurring problem with someone hacking into his msn account & Bebo and then changing the content with malicious material. It would appear to be a common problem at his school and the person resposible is thought to be a pupil who is hacking into many other peoples accounts. My son follows the usual rules of using a address and password which isnt obvious and uses numbers & characters etc. He believes the person doing this is able to aquire someones msn address and somehow use a program to find what the appropriate password is. At the moment he is unable to access his Bebo account as he informs me that the person has changed…

Using search companion with advanced option 'Search hidden files and folders' plus a date. However when I save the search and re-open at a later date, the 'Search hidden files and folders' option is no longer checked. Any suggestions as to how I can get the saved search to keep all parameters? Thanks.

When I set up a Windows XP system, the computer is connected to our network and recieves it's IP address information through a DHCP server. This includes the IP address of our Primary WINS server. The system is only placed on our network to activate Windows. After completing activation, a static IP address and network are assigned, the system is shut down and shipped to our clients. When the systems are powered up at the client site and put on their network, the entry for our Primary WINS server still exists if they run 'ipconfig /all'. There is no WINS server on this network. If we go into the WINS tab of 'Advanced TCP/IP Settings', no WINS server is li…

Hotmail Upgrades! :-)

http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20070814-hotmail-gets-much-needed-attention-storage-limit-bump-other-upgrades.html I love Hotmail. I've used it thru its 2MB phase thru all the betas and everything. I used OE really early on, so they kept the old faithful guys on the system free. 2GB was great, but this is incredible. I'm just a little sad MS didn't kill Gmail earlier. They are powerful; they could have given people like 1GB when Gmail came out and matched it and there would be no battle.

Admin can't write to certain areas of registry
by Guest Anthony Smith- 2 replies

Good Afternoon, I hope everyone is doing well today. We have a workstation running WinXP SP2, and let's call the Admin account Anthony. I created a new Admin user on this account, let's call that user Deja. We have a business software that isn't functioning properly with this new admin user Deja. But if I log on to the Anthony account it works fine. There appears to be an issue with certain .dll's not being able to register with this Deja admin account, thus preventing certain parts of the program from functioning. Is there any possibility that this new Admin account does NOT have permission to write to certain areas of the registry? There was a .d…

CAN'T Connect to Terminal Server from local Network, CAN Connect via VPN Externally, What have I done? Hi, I can only connect to my Windows 2003 Terminal Server with an Administative User when connecting from the local network, I am pretty sure users could connect before as some apps are ONLY installed on the TS so they connect to them internally from there occasionally. I have checked externally by logging in from my home machine over VPN with a standard user and it works fine. I have recently done some re-configuration of Group Policy and I have to wonder if this is what is stopping users loggin on locally. This isn't a huge problem as we usuall…

Dear All I a small issue, before going directly to the problem, let me take you through the scenario. SCENARIO -------------- We have file servers (windows 2003) in our branch offices, in those servers along with users home drive we have also created a department drive. Department drive means, I create a folder called Enggineering, and given access to all the users belongs to engineering department. Which is simple. PROBLEM ------------- The problem I'm facing here is, if someone (in the eng. dept) copy a file to that dept. drive, I don't know who copied the file there. The reason why I need to know this is, many people copy some music files ther…

I'm looking for a Server o/s that would provide a suitable front end to support ~ 10 Remote Web Workplace and VPN connections to take the load off a Win2003SBS box. At present remote users connect to dedicated local workstations using the RWW facility to use a major local busines appliction written in Access with forms embedded in the database. They also connect using the SBS VPN Connectoid to synchronise mail and off-line documents. The existing Dell 2400 is being replaced with a far more powerful IBM x3500 which leaves us with a perfectly serviceable server with no home. We would like to use this machine to support the remote users and dispense with …

Win2K TS's can't connect to Win2k3 license server in remote subnet
by Guest Mizzleman- 9 replies

Hello, I have 3 Win2k TS's that can cannot connect to a Win2k3 license server in a remote subnet, same domain. It was working fine until yesterday. I have not changed anything on the servers. Some patches were installed on 7/13/2007. I have set the default license server registry key for the license server. I ran a protocol analyzer when I run the TS Licensing tool on the TS as it tries to find the license server. After looking throught the analysis, it shows the LDAP query and getting the license server info, but the TS still can't connect to it. What is going on? This is a major production outage so a quick response is appreciated. Thanks.
