Hi All Not sure if my first post got through, so I am sending again I have been assisting a friend to sort his laptop out and we have a problem with a Windows update. Every time we try to install the update it fails and comes back in the Windows update icon, ready to install, but also told us we have the wrong version of IE. The Laptop is running Windows XP with SP3 and IE 7 The nuisance update is :- Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer for Windows XP (KB953838) I have had a quick look on the MS website, and find this patch dates back to June 2008. There is a tick box to say ignore this update, but even though I have ticked this, …

My eyes are getting weaker and I'm finding many items especially via IE-7 are difficult to read. The font is small and designers all too often choose settings that make for very low contrast. You'd think BOLD is a disease. Is there anything I can do in Windows? Or even in IE ??? Thanks, Ted

Hi, I'm having some difficulty connecting a Mac running OS X 10.5.2 to my Windows Server 2003's network share, can someone give me some guidance on this? I currently have a file server in my office that's running Windows Server 2003 and we've just added 2 new Mac Pro for our graphic designer, when I try to connect to a shared volume on my file server from the Mac, I got an error message saying username and password is incorrect, but if I use the domain admin's user name and password it works fine, is there a solution to this? All the other workstation in our domain running Windows XP have no problem accessing file share using their own credential. …

Extra 'My Documents' Folder
by Guest David- 4 replies

Recovering from a complete reinstall, I somehow wound up with a complete second set of "My Documents" The properties of this My Documents" folder say it is a shortcut to the target folder (which is OK) I would like to get rid of this extra My Documents folder. I have tried the register edit from http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_favorites.htm, except it doesn't really tell me what to do after I get to the correct entry. Also, I don't really see where TweakUI addresses this problem either. Would welcome any suggestions. Dave

Windows SFR

Hi All, I use a program called Movie Magic to edit my home video clips. Yesterday I noticed when I clip on it, a window opens with a title of SFR. The window tells me that Windows is configuring SFR and a progress bar appeas. This happens several times in rapid sucession, as if several different elemets are being installed. There is a cancel button, whch after clicking several times closes the window. I have tried to look up SFR on the web, but have had no luck. Does anyone know if that is an actual Windows process being done? I'm running WinXP with SP# installed. Thanks for any advice.

Memory: best performance of system cache
by Guest Tyler Durden- 3 replies

In some XP installations, I've noticed that setting the Performance, Memory usage, Adjust for best performance of System cache results in a non bootable system, taking longer time to load profile then unloading it, in a endless loop. Anyone else experienced this and have a solution to this issue? In some cases, the hardware and software is identical, cloned. As always, any help would be appreciated.

Keyboards/Mice

Hi, We have 1 PC with 2 cloned monitors. The monitors are in seperate offices, about 30 feet apart. What we need to do is to be able to have each monitor have it's own keyboard & mouse to control the screen. We are running XP. My questions are: 1) Can you do thing with Windows configuration, or some type of inexpensive software or hardware. 2) Since the monitors are cloned, I assume that what happens on one happens on the other. 3) If we wanted 2 seperate monitors on the same PC, what is involved in that? If I could get some help, it would really be appreciated. Thanks!

Can I rely on "copy" command?
by Guest Walter R.- 15 replies

I often have occasion to copy or move large blocks of files from one partition to another. Win XP SP2 has never told me yet that it has lost a byte here or a byte there. Can I assume that all transfers are done flawlessly and with zero data loss? Will Windows let me know if it accidentally loses or mangles a few bytes while transferring data? -- Walter http://www.rationality.net -

No disk space. Services Doesn't start

Primary disk, dynamic, volumes: System, Applications, Data, some allocated space and a second disk mirroring all three volumes, and same allocated space. All system is crashed because 0 bytes free space is available in System volume. Even delete unnecessary data, free space record doesn't increase, still is 0. I found a 17GB temp file, in c:\WINDOWS\TEMP\SAM2718.tmp that I can't delete, "some user or application is using it". Neither a folder inside, pdk-SYSTEM-2916 can be deleted. I checked, security, so administrator has permissions enough to delete both, file and folder. No event viewer records in system or application logs giving interest…
