I have a problem. I am running windows xp service pack 2 with all updates. I was wondering if anyone knows how to stop my problem from happening. Everytime I load up windows media player 11 or outlook 2007 or any other program it stays running in the background if I close it by hitting the red x in the corner. If I hit file and exit it stays closed. On windows media player if I am playing something it keeps on playing after I close it. I can also hit ctrl, alt, delete to end the program left being ran in the background. This cause problems for me. It really is annoying. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Running right now : Norton Ghost 12, Log…

by Guest SamT.- 0 replies

I ran the automatic security upgrades last night and when the computer restarted, it seems to be running, but all I get is a blank screen that flashes up "1: Analog Video - Can not display this mode". I tried to reboot, but the bios doesn't come up any more. What can be the cause of this? Any help is appreciated. I have an intel DG965 MB. Everything was working flawlessly before the last 10 auto upgrades that MS sent me yesterday.

Before doing a complete dump of our home computer we did a backup. Now that things are back up and running and stable we tried to recover the back up. It gets about 2 minutes into it and then the error "AN INCONSISTANCY WAS ENCOUNTERED IN THE REQUESTED BACKUP FILE" Where does this leave me? How do I get all my files etc back? Any and all suggestions would be awesome! Thank you!

Process preventing shutdown
by Guest PedroAsani- 5 replies

So I did a fresh install of X64 with SP2, got all my updates etc. Now one of them is stopping it from rebooting my computer when I say Restart, and shutting it down when I tell it to turn off. The Application log says its a Userenv:1517 error, which means a process didnt terminate correctly. The two problems I have are: It's a process running under SYSTEM. I can't tell which one. So, it's one of the most recent Automatic Updates I did, since a fresh install with no updates doesn't have this problem. And it appears to be an important one. Any way of telling which one it is?

System won't shut down
by Guest Guus Ellenkamp- 1 reply

I have a server which shows a user desktop background. The user logged off, but the logoff process does not seem to complete. I can access all the server functions, including remote computer management. However, it refuses to accept a shutdown command remotely (and locally I cannot issue it of course). I don't like to hard reset this server of course. The shutdown command seems to return error 15, which is displayed in a dialog box when trying to shutdown through computer management console. Please advise.

Printscreen hotkey disabled
by Guest marcbachman- 2 replies

I recently tried shareware that, according to posts I have read, either defined or redefined my Printscreen hotkey in the Windows registry. Since that time, my Printscreen hotkey has not worked. I have tried reinstalling Windows, and then using the Files and Settings transfer Wizard to get rid of the problem, but apparently when my settings were restored, my Registry keys were restored, including the one I was trying to get rid of. I have tried a visual search of the registry to see if I could even identify where this setting might reside, but to no avail. One post here that I found using the "Printscreen" string as search parameter suggests doing a repair…

problems moving software from xp to server 2003
by Guest RossB- 0 replies

I am moving 2 software packages from XP to server 2003, for use on citrix. The software works okay on XP, but not on server 2003. The error message given when run on server 2003 is "runtime error 31037, error loading from file". Is there any way, either through windows or Third party tools, to tell which files an application uses .eg .dlls, .ocx files etc. The software I am installing is MS HIS client 2000 & a custom application.

I`ve just installed intellipoint 6.1 for my laser mouse 6000 and came across the instant viewer a very useful app, now what i would like to know is if microsoft will be realeasing it as a stane alone app, adding it to xp sp3 or if not just what steps would be needed to install just the instant viewer bit for the IP6.1 Package as it would be very useful to be able to install it on an xp system with a microsoft compatible scroll wheel mouse and still have the function, also can the same function be mapped to alt+tab as a default and if so how?

Memory Leak in Lsass.exe
by Guest Frank- 3 replies

I have a server here running Window 2003 Standard. Everyday around 5:30PM, lsass.exe used up all the memory to 100%. I read some articles regarding this issue, some say it is about a virus, some say it is about window updates. Anyway, I followed all the tips for solving this issue, I am 100% sure it is not a virus nor about not updating window (because I ran all the updates). However, it still happenes everyday, lsass.exe uses up all 100% memory.... Why? How to solve it? Thank you, Frank

How do I allow in IntExp automatic file download for certain sites ?
by Guest Tobias Merler- 1 reply

When I start a download then on the top of the IntExp browser window appears a yellow bar informing me that IntExp has blocked the automatic download for security reasons. To accomplish the download I have explictely to allow the download. Ok, thats fine as default. However for some sites (e.g. sourceforge.net) I want to allow automatic download without being prompted. How can I tell IntExp to NOT ask me for download permissions if the page URL belongs to e.g the domain *.sourceforge.net ? In all other cases the prompt should remain active. Tobias
