by Guest Jaykay- 2 replies

So one day as I was playing a pc game (counter strike: source) it looked like my video card had gotten messed up or something. So I removed the video card and tried to run the game with the integrated video card. So when I reboot my pc one of the startup programs that usually starts when my pc boot up is McAfee. But it gives me an error saying that it cannot open because I may be running Windows in dafe mode. So when I try to play counter strike it gives me the same thing saying that the progaram can't run cuz im in safe mode. But I've ran windos in both safe mode and started windows regulary. Also, when I try to check my device drivers to uninstall my vid…

My Puters Automatically Dupe All Files... How Do I Stop This?
by Guest TuffKitten- 0 replies

I hope someone can help me with this. I have two HP notebooks, one has XP Home and the other XP Entertainment. Both of them make "Copy Of" files of everything I do be it pictures, videos, documents, etc. Needless to say, it slows the puter down to a snail's pace. One of the puters is only a few months old and already so jammed with these "Copy Of" folders and files that I wanna smash it. I deleted them with BCWipe this morning off both puters but they are only going to start doing it again. Please tell me how to turn this "creature feature" (LOL!) off. I don't need every little thing in a second copy. It gets very confusing too as I'll often…

So first my computer loses sound, the taskbar changed from blue to grey. None of my programs can be opened without "PERMISSION FROM THE ADMINISTRATOR" and I can't open the control panel from start, or access my task manager. On reboot, I got this blue screen with the following: EAM.SYS+705a at F757E05A. So is my compute4r completely muffed? Will it be easier if I go and buy Windows XP Media Center Edition (cuz that's the operating system im running on now.) and re-install my operating system?

When I try to load print drivers on a new laptop it says it cannot load because the print spooler is not started. I went into services and double clicked the print spooler. It is set to automatic but the start and stop buttons randomly turn on back and forth. Tried manual the same start/stop issue.

norton removed, but still fetches updates!
by Guest Ogg- 9 replies

I've removed Norton 2003, but every few days, Norton continues to fetch updates! I tried viewing the culprit program responsible via Task Manager. The only process that coincides with the activity is something named "update.exe". But a search for that shows up several copies of that program in different subdirectories, and none of them have a clear label to the obvious "Norton" or "Symantec". The subdirs are just numbers. Is anyone here familiar with this problem and if so, how do I get Norton to stop?

Reinstallation of Windows XP SP2
by Guest Tom _Hyde- 1 reply

I have recently tried to use the Windows XP SP2 system disk in order to reinstall Windows on my laptop.. The first time I used the telephone assisted support method which required me to type in nine six-digit numbers dictated over the telephone in order to authenticate my disk. I managed to do that and the process insisted on a complete download and warned me that after installation the first boot-up of Windows would take much longer than normal. In fact, after two hours of looking at the black Windows XP opening screen, carrying the message "Please wait...", I switched-off the computer then switched it on again. The computer booted-up and I was…

record dialup authentication conversation?
by Guest Gretch- 1 reply

I have a dialup connection properly configured and functional; the connection completes as desired. Is it possible to save the details of the connection conversation to a file, please? We need to examine all detailed aspects of the authentication procedure, e.g. such as: sent [LCP ConfReq id=0x2 <asyncmap 0x0> <magic 0xedc61ec1> <pcomp>] and its response, including the IP address assignment etc, so that it can be duplicated on a different OS. Thank you for your assistance, as nothing suggests itself in the Properties of the dialup connection or its components.

Hello Everyone. This is my first post here and as it usually happenes I got here because I was googling something I need. I am an advanced user far from been an expert with very limited experience in 2003. However I am determined to manage my self to set it up so I can remotely access to manage the quick books database from outside the office as I used to have this service from someone else, paid a lot of money and ended up having tons of problems anyway so I rather go through the hassle of learning with as much help I can get from the web and any recommendation I can follow from guys who know more than I do. I have a PC (CEL 1.2GHz 256Mb 30Gb with a Windows …

by Guest Matt Modica- 4 replies

Hello, Somehow (I don't know how), my .NET 1.1 Framework became corrupt. I noticed when I tried to open Media Center, which displayed this error: http://picsorban.com/view.php?pic=error2.png I did a little searching and discovered I needed to reinstall the .NET Framework because it was some how "messed up". However, after reinstalling, the same thing happens. When I try to install SP1 for he .NET Framework and an update for Media Center, I get this error when installing both: http://picsorban.com/view.php?pic=error1.png I discovered I needed to run the .NET Framework cleanup tool, but the one link I could find to it kept timing out. So now I am stuck.…
