i received a pc build by a friend. after i received it i was told i couldn't download any updates, so i'm pretty sure i need to purchase and install a new os system. can i purchase an oem cd or do i have to purchase the full os. what's the difference? thanks -- sandy j

We have 2003 small business server and Sage ERP that we can't see the help files in the Sage program. I was told that is a problem with the Windows Server but don't know how to fix this or if this is true. Does anyone in here know how to fix this or had a similar problem? The error message says "The navigation to the web page was canceled. Retype the address." Thanks, -- Lee Coleman

I have a 2003 Server and 8 clients connected to it. DNS are set static to the sever IP address. Now I get once or twice a day an error saying "System detectet a possible attempt to compromise security". While that happen I get may popup windows with this message. However, I can restart the PC's again and everything works fine. The funny thing is that this happens mostly, but not always at similar time. Any idea what could cause this error.

I moved it), I finally get it working...well, sort of. I got all related services running. I created two users in AD, set their Unix attributes. I have a DHCP scope that can hand out 200 IPs. My environment is Windows 2003 Servers in an Active Directory forest at the 2003 functional level. This scope is used for students' laptops and one computer lab. I have dynamic DNS updates turned on by request only from the DHCP clients. The lease duration is set at 1 hour. Problem: 150 students connect and lease IP addresses for the morning classes then leave campus 4 hours later. When the afternoon students come in I get messages from DHCP saying there are only 4 or 5 leases available, the scope is almost full. The leases that are expired are still showing up in DHCP under Address Leases so I have to manuall…

Our server is running Windows 2003 Server R2 Enterprise x64 Edition. Yesterday I happened to notice I can't open Windows Firewall anymore. I tried to start Windows Firewall service, but got the following error: Could not start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing(ICS) service on Local Computer Error 1058: The service cannot be started, either because it's disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it But I checked that service startup type is automatic and it has hardware profile enabled. I would like to use my old Practical Peripherals modem with my Win2K/Pro system. The problem is that there does not seem to be a driver available. If I try to use the old driver that was from the Win/NT 4.0 days, the system warns me that the driver is not certified for Win/2K and it may not work and it may cause the entire OS to fail. Yikes. Is there any way to use this old modem with my Win2K system? Is there some sort of generic driver? Thanks. Note: I will be away from 8/16 - 8/24.

I have a downloaded Windows Update file that isn't installed yet. I don't want to install this update and never will, but since it's already downloaded it's just taking up space on my C: drive. Is there a way to locate it and get rid of it?

For reasons beyond our ability to fathom, the boss bought 5 new PC's from Dell with Vista on them. After finding out that half the software in the world and almost ALL of our software won't run on Vista, we contacted Dell to try to find out about downgrading to XP. We might as well have called and said "My talking book uncle monkey hat." It's Pointless! It's Usless! It's Dell! Hello, I use Win98se, and I'm looking for a simple freeware (or low$ shareware) that is a cardfile with adding photos capability. Meaning that each card can hold info and a photo of each contact, in a layout similar to a photo I.D. card or driver's license. If you are familiar with mIRC, it includes an address book -exactly- as I'm describing. I've googled the heck out of this. Does someone know of an application? Thanks, Mike E

I installed a win2k3 terminal server with 10 user cals, activated the server and installed the client licenses (I installed the ts license server on the ts server) . I did all this _outside_ our sbs2k3 domain. The server was working great. I then took the server and joined it to the domain. When I did this the server started telling me I have a license issue. Specifically: "No terminal sever license server was found on the network. This terminal server will stop issuing temporary licenses to clients 120 days...." What can I do to fix this? Thank you, Joe

When I click on Tools / Internet Options or Tools /Delete Browsing History nothing comes up in IE7. Everything else seems to be functioning normally. Is there a way to fix this without having to download IE7 again? -- Chuck159
