XP connect to network drives at logon
by Guest Dave- 3 replies

I have XP w/SP2. I had several network drives mapped, and XP would connect to them when I logged in. All of a sudden, Windows won't connect reliably when I log in. Sometimes I get a message to the effect that not all network drives could be connected. Anothe time, I'll get no message at all but some or all of my mapped drives say disconnected network drive. Still other times I can open My Computer and it'll show all network drives connected. Any advice? Thanks, Dave

erratic cursor problem
by Guest Resident- 1 reply

The cursor on my W98 system has developed a habit of erratically jumping all over the screen with the slightest mouse movement. A reboot cures the problem for a while. The hardware checks out ok, I'm running a KVM and switching to the other computer shows the mouse to be ok. Switching the computers ports on the KVM still leaves the problem on the same computer. Any ideas will be appreciated. Oscar

Hi. I've seen a few older posts about this (from 2001, 2003, etc.) but I'm not sure if they're relevant. When I turned on my computer this morning, everything was fine. I have not installed any new programs, run anything that I don't usually run in the course of a day, I haven't run any mystery-attachments from e-mails, etc. I went away from my computer for about 1/2 hour this afternoon and, when I returned, all of my desktop icons were gone; however, when I look at the Desktop folder under my profile, they're all there. I know that nothing happens for no reason, but I don't know what could have happened. My windows updates aren't completely automatic, s…

Anytime Upgrade
by Guest mhonzell- 2 replies

I originally installed Vista Home Premium 32-bit version as an upgrade to XP Pro SP2. Later, I chose to use Anytime Upgrade to move to Vista Ultimate. Now that things are settled (I suppose I needed more of a challenge,) I want to move to 64-bit version to make better use of the processors as the multimedia programs are finally moving in that direction. I ordered the 64-bit version of Vista Home Premium which is allowed for a very small fee which will replace my original upgrade. Can I also upgrade my Anytime Upgrade license to 64-bit? Thanks, Mark

I am needing to convert my Windows XP from English to Spanish. I have gone to the regional setting in the control panel and changed it to Spanish, but all of the applications are still in English. I would like to see if it is possible to do this without having to buy another version of Windows XP. -- umpaloompa

Hi Everyone, I was trying to enable the remote desktop using the following setting. Control Panel => Network connections => Local Area Connection => Properties => Advanced Tab => Settings Button(below) Enable the remote desktop server. And when I press the ok button after doing above, I get the following error. "an error occurred while internet connection sharing is enabled. the file name, directory name or volume label syntax is incorrect" I tried different things, but I keep getting the same error. Can some one tell me what is the issue or problem and how I can resolve this. A quick response is highly appreciated. Thanks.

Hey guys, My netbackup software has been failing on all 4 x64 servers I put into production. After working with Symantec, we've determined that VSS is the culprit. Using ntbackup, I tried to do a system state backup on the servers and they failed. Here is the report from the ntbackup job: Backup Status Operation: Backup Active backup destination: File Media name: "Backup.bkf created 8/15/2007 at 1:25 PM" Volume shadow copy creation: Attempt 1. Timeout before function completed Error returned while creating the volume shadow copy: 0xffffffff. Error returned while creating the volume shadow copy:ffffffff Aborting Backup. -------------------…

Why is comain connected clients slower than local "single" clients
by Guest it-support- 2 replies

Hi, We have about 30 or so clients connected to an W2003 server domain. the computers are not top-notch but should be more than enough to handle simple office work. The client computers are mostly Dell Dimensions 4600; 2.8GHz 512Mb RAM. Login is very slow, sometimes it takes as long as 40 seconds to log in - sometimes even more than a minute. In general everything feels slow and unresponsive. If I login on the computers local profile it takes about 5 seconds to login and the computer performs at twice the speed. I would like to know why connecting your computer to a windows domain so drastically changes a computers performance? I would like to know …

Windows XP unknown service updates. I also haunt the Intuit QuickBooks forums. In the past two weeks there have been a number of folks posting that they can no longer create a QuickBooks back up file. "I have Quickbooks Pro 2007 on Windows XP. I constantly get an error message that "Quickbooks was unable to backup company file" This only happens with the largest of the 3 companies that I have. I have tried all 3 different levels of verification. I have tried it on two different computers. I have tried backing up to different locations, different computers and an external hard drive. Once in a blue moon, the backup is accomplished. The size of that com…

Hello, I have a Windows 2000 SP4 DC. I don't know why, but from time to time the CPU is near to 100% for lsass.exe. I found several articles for Windows 2000 SP1 or SP2. But what causes this high CPU usages of lsass in Windows 2000 SP4? Any ideas. Thanks in advance Dirk
