Hi all, I am running XP Home edition. When the computer starts several items randomly fail to load. These are usually the Volume Control icon, Nod 32 Anti-Virus or Comodo Firewall. Sometimes all load OK yet on occasion some, or all fail. Is there a simple fix for this? I look forward to your help Regards, Roy.

WXP interface translation
by Guest Metallo- 8 replies

Hi, I use WXP PRO in English, sometimes I need to do some work on the PC of my father in law who is Dutch and has a Dutch version of WXP PRO. My Dutch is not good enough for technical stuff and was wondering if there is an application that could make my task easier, basically I am looking for something that simultaneously translate, for example, "Eigenschappen" into "Properties". Thank you -- Alex

--- has encountered a problem and needs to close
by Guest J. Y.- 2 replies

The above error message is driving me crazy. I started using XP about 2 months ago. After the first 6 weeks, I started getting that message on my internet browser Opera. The message tells you that the program has encountered a problem and must close. This crashes whatever you are doing. This happened 3 times (I installed 2 newer versions of Opera just in case that had something to do with the problem). Today I turned the machine on and during the boot the same message appeared except for a different program. It was for Nero Backitup Scheduler Application. I don't use that application at all. Therefore it couldn't close because it wasn't open. It also …

Need definitive answer on strange m files - mIWCA, mPfMgr, etc
by Guest sandiedog- 0 replies

Dell Inspiron 6000, Running Windows XP. Computer has worked perfectly all along. Today I noticed that the remove button from Add and Remove Programs was missing. Then I noticed that there are tons of new programs listed - looks like many of them are mtoolkit files according to some research I've done. Some forums say they are unique to Dell some say they are related to wireless. I am looking for a definitive answer to what these files are, why they showed up after two years and if I can delete them – and if so, how to delete them because they don't show up in a search and there is no remove function in Add/Remove programs. Here is a partial list mCore …

Normally on this PC if I check IE6 - properties- " Temporary Internet Files settings" it shows the Temporary Internet Files folder as being: C:\Documents and Settings\Bill\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files OCCASIONALLY, when I check it, it shows as it does right now : ( OLD designation): "C:\Docume~\Bill\LocalS~\Te Internet Files " ( I wrapped text 'cuz that's how it looks) If I click 'View files' it shows full path in Explorer, but why a '~' on Settings page ? I noticed it today and it was AFTER Norton Antivirus had updated ( at boot time). It took the system a few minutes to 'get going' (I've noticed that when NAV updates at boot tim…

How do I stop windows from playing all videos in a full-screen mode. It does not matter the format of video either. Windows media, real videos or quicktime, they all switch to a full-screen mode which I can not escape out of. It also does not matter which program is playing the video either, Real Player, Quick Time...they all jump to a full-screen mode. Operating system is Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2. I have a Sony Vaio Computer with Pentium D 3.00 GHz

how do you do runas on a reg file?

how do you do runas on a reg file? or runas on regedit.exe on a reg file. by that I mean. Suppose i'm in a non-admin account. If I want to run an exe, I can right click and do runas, and enter the username and password of an or the administrative account. But I can't do that with a reg file. I can't right click a reg file.. and this doesn't work either C:\WINDOWS>runas /user:Administrator regedit.exe c:\a.reg this works in the sense that it opens up regedit and tries to run the reg file. But can't write to place required 'cos not administrator C:\WINDOWS>regedit.exe c:\a.reg this opens regedit, but I want to run a reg file, i don't want to e…

csrss.exe - empty error message
by Guest John Geddes- 1 reply

For the second day running, XP pro has thrown up an Error dialog box with a yellow triangle (including exclamation mark/exclamation point) and the options Yes and No. There is no text beyond the word "error" in the top blue bar, so I can't work out which is the safer option. Yesterday the error came up when I started up the PC (after 8 days unused - PC had been shut down fully); this morning the error has come up when I resumed after an overnight hibernation. I've not installed any new software recently. Task Manager traces the process throwing the error to be csrss.exe which is showing a stable 0% CPU and 4,996K memory usage. Any idea what the missing mes…

Vista Ultimate x64 Performance Issues
by Guest Mike Benton- 2 replies

I have a new laptop with Vista Ultimate x64. Aside from the base installation I installed Office 2007 Professional and I use Yahoo! music for downloads. With my new laptop, most of the time I will power it on to browse the web. I hit the power button walk away for about 15-20 minutes and usually it is done doing whatever it does that keeps the utilization at 100%. I did install Procman.exe and have watched the activity. To me it looks like svchost.exe reads and writes about every file on the laptop. Now I've seen 3rd party software out there that claims to enhance the performance of Vista. From what I remember, this is partially accomplished by 'twea…

EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE QUESTIONS!
by Guest Kenny Lee- 8 replies

-- On any External Hard Drives is there a way that you can go into Properties and select a time for it to turn off on it's on or just turn it off from there so you won't have to go and unplug it everytime from the wall or from the computer that you don't want to use it so you can save wear and tear on it since it will be spinning the whole time that it's on thus shortening the life of it? I've been told that you could though. Can you? When you save to one do you have to unhide your own folders you created yourself before tranferring to the External Hard Drive (ie) Right click on the folder, go to Properties and uncheck the Hidden box and click Apply and …

Fax Console on SBS 2003 / SP2 sends 2page fax scrunched up into 1p
by Guest John Advisory- 1 reply

When my client sends a fax, his recipient complains that the message is received scrunched up onto 1 page. The top half of the first page appears correct but the lower part shows lines scruching up. The second page is not received. Tests I have done have had mixed results with some faxes coming through ok, while others showing slightly different faults: - only minimal scrunching so that the first page can still be read. - scrunching on the 2nd page with the lower half missing. I have had an email sent of the fax and these reproduce perfectly. The client is faxing from a 3rd party application. Other users in the office are sending from other applicat…

Hi all, I have 2 DCs running Windows 2003 in Windows 2000 native mode, on one of them there is Exchange 2003 SP2. Not reccomended configuration, but working. I need to migrate them into 3 new servers, new AD domain, 2DCs, 3rd will be member server running Exchange 2003. Around 200 user accounts (with mailboxes), similar number of PCs. Some users have home directories. What are possibilites to migrate old configuration into new one? All needs to be done within 48 hrs, possibly without much interruption for users. Thanks for any input. Chris
