I'm running Windows XP with SP3. Everytime I boot up the computer Windows Installer attempts to load PhotoGallery. I don't have FrontPage installed. My printer is an HP PhotoSmart 2610xi all-in-one. I thought it might be a problem with the printer install but after working with HP tech support for a day, they say there's nothing they can do. Suggestions? -- Tony D.

Can't Run windows update from DC
by Guest ITDUDE27- 6 replies

Hi. I'm experiencing a problem with my DC, which host Exchange, IIS. When I manually run the windows update via the browser I get promt to install the ActiveX for Genuine verifycation. After I select install ActiveX, it check for updates for maybe 2 seconds than it prompts me for the ActiveX install all over again. It like it caught in a loop. This only started when I ran the last Windows update on the 27th of June I believe. Any thoughts? Everything works fine with the exception that I can't get updates. SBS 2003, Exchange 2003 R2. Any help on this would much appreciated. Thanks.

Fast User Switching Issues
by Guest jmattia@gmail.com- 4 replies

I have a few issues when switching users on Windows XP. I only have two accounts setup, and switch between them very frequently. When moving from one logged in account to another, my video card seems to temporarily go dead. The monitor goes black, the power button turns orange, and it stays that way for about 2-3 seconds. Then, the desktop jumps to life on the user that I selected. If I move to the welcome screen and select the account I was just on, everything goes smoothly. But when actually changing accounts, I get the two or three seconds of lag. The only thing I can think of is my Norton 360 antivirus software. Other than that, nothing else comes t…

WIN.INI
by Guest Pete- 2 replies

During installation of a program there was a problem and the Uninstall part of the program did not get installed. The program itself did not function properly and I needed to uninstall it but could not do so via Add/Remove Programs. I had to resort to deleting the program folder from Program Files. Now under System Configuration the WIN.INI file shows an entry for this program with sub headings (User Name, Version, ExecPath etc). I would like to remove this entry - is it ok to edit the WIN.INI file in Notepad and delete the entry or is this not a good idea? I realise that I can disable the item in the System Configuration Utility but this changes s…

Windows Explorer Search Failure
by Guest JoeSpareBedroom- 2 replies

Running XP Pro with all updates. I'm having problems searching for "word or phrase in file". If I view several files in the folder in question, I can see that the text exists. But, the search feature doesn't find them. These are NOT encrypted files, and on another computer, with the same OS, the search feature works fine. The two machines are side by side, so I can compare and be sure that all search options are identical. Any suggestions?

Schedule a reboot?
by Guest ray124c41- 2 replies

I have Windows XP SP2, not part of a domain. As described in my response to the "Task Scheduler" query by Fred Flintstone, I managed to set up my system so, after having assigned a password to the "Owner" account, I can schedule tasks and not have to log on when I boot or come out of standby. It works very well. Anyway, the remaining problem is that Norton SystemWorks One Button Cleanup needs to reboot after it does its thing. After the last time it ran via the schedule ( this was also the first time), I brought the PC out of standby to find a dialog box displaying, requesting that I click a button on the box so it can reboot and complete the ta…

restricted file moving within windows folders
by Guest happy 111- 1 reply

Hi. I wondered if it were possible to put restrictions on where specified users could move files - more specifically if i could give specific users MOVE ONLY access to move files within sub-folders to a specific folder? my situation is on a shared network, and my understanding for users to be able to MOVE files at all, they need to be given DELETE access, and DELETE access gives no option to restrict movement. Hoping someone may know something i don't know. thanks

Hello All - I am unclear on on the proper memory and profile settings for users on a Terminal server with 2-Quad core cpu's and 16GB of RAM. 32-but enterprise R2 Currently i have the PAE switch and userva=3030, also the users on the TS are not using the ts profile setting of there usernames. What are the correct profile settings? Why would a user need a second profile tab for there profiles? What are the correct memory settings? There are about 50 users, well on there way to about 75 by years end. Robert

User rights.

I've got a user that happens to be a general manager for a client and he is demanding the ability to install software on his system while logged in with his username. I don't want to give him that ability but wanted to ask here if there is *any way* to give him that level of access 'safely'. I don't think there is so I bow to any experts here that can show me the light. I've been told our support contract hangs in the balance so I really want to be right if we have to go over his head. What started this was him getting a Treo and not being able to install the software 'right now without all this administrator B.S.' Thanks for any assistance. It'…
