Client's printers changing unexpectedly
by Guest Scott- 2 replies

Hello; Something odd is happening with some of my users. They have Remote Desktop Client to connect to TS on a 2k3R2 server. The server has 5 liscenses available, so they connect without a problem. The problem is when they connect, the terminal services has a problem with their printers. All the users have the same localy connected dell printers on their desktop. The drivers are installed on the server, and when someone logs in, it sets up the printer (e.g. Dell laserjet on session 2) for them perfectly. The problem is, if more than 2 people log in, the Terminal services removes the printers for the earlier sessions, swaping them with newer sessio…

I have a computer running windows xp home sp2. This problem first ocurred when I plugged an external hard drive in. The computer crashed suddenly and gave this error. When I boot the computer I get an error the windows/system32/config/system is missing or corrupt. It tells me to use a Windows setup disk and select r to repair. I have gone to recovery console with no luck. I also did a fresh install on a different hard drive then added the old one as a slave. (I noticed that the old drives partitions are still intact and files are all accessible.) I then tried to copy the file from the master over to the "broken" slave, but I get the error Cannot …

I own a SONY VAIO desktop. Pentium 4 about 5 yrs old. It is a great computer. When it was new the XP software crashed. I used the restore CD and it only restored XP, not any of the software it comes with. five days ago, when I turned on my computer it asked for an administrator's password, I never set one. It would not let me log in. So about 1 hr. ago I tried the restore CD again and this time it erased all my filed on the C partition, it did not touch or change the D partition. I need to recover the files from that C partition. Is there any way to undo the restoration? Is there anyway to recover the old settings. I do not think it was hacked o…

I'm about to setup a terminal server to allow a team of administrators to connect to other servers via TS. Not exactly rocket science. However, to make the auditors happy I want to create a log of who sets up outgoing connections to what. Does anyone know of a product, script or whatever that can do that for me? Jeroen

My Terminal Services server crashed and had to be reinstalled. Now all the printers I installed for my Terminal Services users print an extra blank form after printing an invoice. Does anyone know if this is a driver compatibility problem or a setting in Terminal Services?

I have a Windows XP computer with dual monitors. When the system boots, the login prompt is displayed in the middle of the two. It is cut in half and hard to read. Is there any way to set the startup location on the screen, either to have it centered on one display or hardcoded to a particular screen location? Thanks in advance, J Wolfgang Goerlich

Making my own START Menu
by Guest Xaos- 6 replies

You know when you click START>PROGRAMS, you get a list of all the programs that are on your computer. Then if you move the mouse over one of the folders, like MICROSOFT, you'll see WORD, OUTLOOK, ACCESS etc.... Is there a way for me to create my own menus like that. I want to click START, and them have a folder that has ADOBE,MICROSOFT, SYMANTEC, ETC.... so that when I want to run one of those programs, I don't have to do a lot of searching. There should be a way for me to do that easily, right? Thanks in advance for your help! Chaz
