Win XP Pro, SP3 Is it possible to remove Outlook Express completely? I removed it with the control panel add/remove function and found that I was still getting this message every few days: -------------------------------------------------------------- Outlook Express: To Free-UP disk space, Outlook Express can compact messages This may take up to a few minutes OK Cancel -------------------------------------------------------------- I found the "Compact Check Count" registry item and set it to decimal 0 which should make the above function cease, but I'm annoyed that I had to of course. Is there a way to COMPLETELY remove the Contents of the p…

Hello, I have a win 2003 standard edition server that is accessed via Remote Desktop by several users running XP on their individual workstations. One of the work stations has an HP USB printer attached, and shared to all other users. The printer works perfectly when used from the work stations. The server has the driver installed for this printer as well (win 2003 version from the HP website.) All users have remote desktop configured to forward the printer. when a user prints from an application on the server, the first print works properly, and then a print job labeled "Remote Desktop Redirected Printer Doc" is sent repeatedly and soon there are thousa…

Hello all. I've noticed that right after upgrading XP to SP3, ntbackup has stopped backing up my scheduled task for Outlook Express' dbx files, even though the task exits with the success code 0x0. Upon closer examination with some test files, it appears that ntbackup will NOT load the 'Load Selections' if they are BELOW the path: C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Application Data \Identities\Registry Stuff\ Any files loaded and 'Save Selections' in the path: C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Application Data \Identities\Registry Stuff\Microsoft\Outlook Express\ does NOT load when you reload the selections using 'Load Se…

Server 2003 Standard R2 - Server service crashes
by Guest d3m0n- 6 replies

Hi All :) Over the last few weeks, we have had an issue whereby one of our servers (it's a DC, which hosts apps and also a fileserver) exhibits the following symptoms, seemingly at random: - The application client on workstations will stop responding, eventually giving an error relating to it not being able to access files on a UNC path (\\server\appshare\system\blahblahetc) which is mapped to the apps drive, or an error stating that another user has exclusive access to a certain file. - The filesharing drive (which is mapped to a folder hosted on a completely different logical partition) also stops responding and crashes explorer if you try to access…

Afternoon all, Does anyone know whether there is an issue with using a Windows standard 2003 server to issue a Remote Assistance request? When I do this using email as the invitation method, the email is sent successfully however whenever I click on the email from the xp-client, I get taken to a window that says. Has Microsoft stopped support for email invitations? I must admit i'm a bit dated on this, just reviewing for the mcse. Thanks for any help Art We are sorry, the page you requested cannot be found. File access auditing
by Guest Jordon- 3 replies

Server 2000 SP4 running AD. I have read many posts about how to log file and folder access, but it doesn't seem to work. I've enabled auditing of object access in a group policy on the domain controller. I've changed the properties of the folder to be audited and added the groups to audit and what's to be audited. Nothing shows up in the security event viewer when files are accessed, changed, added or deleted. It's got to be something I've overlooked. Can anyone steer me in the right direction? -- Jordon

I've been logging in to XP Home most of the time as an administrator. How big a security risk is this? If I start using a limited account, is there a way to copy the documents and settings and maybe the Outlook Express mail and address book from the Admin account? Thanks
