PrcView doesn't show full path of WINLOGON.EXE
by Guest M$ User- 1 reply

PrcView shows some processes as name.exe, with full path, and other processes simply as [name], without any path. I'd like to see the full path of (for example) WINLOGON.EXE. I can always download System Internal's Process Explorer from C|net, but I'm curious as to why PrcView doesn't seem to show it. I'd prefer to solve that over moving on to yet another application, though I'm not above doing so. Thanks for any suggestions.

Wiped hard drive causes printer communication problems (help)
by Guest Blue Moo- 3 replies

My hard drive was completely wiped in June 2007, so I had to reinstall everything. I then realised that I couldn’t find the driver disk to connect my printer to my computer. So I contacted the Dell forums to see if I could buy a new one or use the down loads on their site. I was sent a link and I down loaded it. The printer began to respond and printed a test page, but as soon as I wanted to print a document a message came up saying that the printer was not communicating. so I removed the printer and driver and then reinstalled them. Now every time I open an application the following error message appears: "The procedure entry point ?GetDIMSValue…

XP Start Up problem
by Guest Bill- 2 replies

I have been using XP Professional for over a year with no problems. Suddenly when I tried to start, the program would go through the BIOS check and then the Windows Logo would appear. At that point the screen would go blank and instead of the desktop appearing, the computer would essentially restart and the entire process would repeat over and over. I went to the Windows Advanced options menu and tried the various options available. It will not boot in safe mode. Boot logging will not work. VGA mode will not work. Last known good configuration, debugging mode will not function. I did have some success with "Disable automatic restart on system failure" U…

Administrator.<machine name> ?!?!?!?!?!
by Guest pb- 2 replies

All, I'm running windows 2000 Pro as a machine in a workgroup. I somehow screwed up the NTUSER.DAT file for the Administrator account. When I tried to login as administrator it created a new administrator account called administrator.prometheus, where prometheus is the name of the computer. Had to reinstall some stuff, but everything seemed ok. That's when it got weird. Seems the administrator.prometheus and the administrator accounts have some weird connection where files created in in one show up in the other, run Visual Development Environments and they get confused picking bits of projects from either account, etc. I tried deleting the admin…

"no disc in drive" when I try to play DVDs
by Guest davidofelston- 2 replies

Suddenly when I insert DVDs in my computer I can no longer play them. The drive doesn't recognize that there is a disc in it. This started happening after I tried to copy a disc which I'd made with a DVD recorder and copying was stopped because of an error. WMP shows no indication that there's a disc in the drive, Cybermedia Power DVD says "No disc in drive1", and when I try to copy a disc the tray opens and I'm told to insert a source disc. Can anyone here suggest a cause and possibly a solution for this problem? I've only had a PC for a few months and am still a beginner, and I have no idea why this happened. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi, I have three partitions, XP Pro on the first, Vista on the second and my data on the third. The problem I am having is accessing the data from either OP. If I change ownership in one and then the other I cannot open files from the first and have to take ownership again. I have had this system running OK for months but have had to reinstall when the motherboard blew and cannot get it running for the life of me. I hope somebody can help, thanks in advanced. by Guest t-bird1976- 4 replies

I started getting a BSOD about a week ago. I finally had enough and called Dell tech support. He did three system restores and got off the phone as soon as he could. He and his manager assured me everything was perfect and it would never happen again. WHATEVER!!!! The next day it happened again. The STOP message is as follows: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x80620B4A, 0xF7A55BC0, 0x00000000) The third sequence in the parentheses varies. Today, it added something new under the STOP message. FOPN.sys address F7322F4F base at F731000, Datestamp 4630c321 I can't find any info on this. It also won't let me run a scan disk and when I treied to defrag, it says…

When I open the Security Center from the Control Panel I get a message that the Security Center service has not started or was stopped. It then asks me to restart the computer or, if that does not work, to start the Security Center service. How does one do that? -- Neil Morrison
