NetBEUI support for Remote Access under XP
by Guest Gary Edstrom- 2 replies

I am aware the Microsoft has an unsupported driver for NetBEUI which will run under XP. I am also aware that the driver does not support Remote Access. Are there any 3rd party hacks available that will allow NetBEUI with Remote Access under WinXP? We need to provide legacy support for a large number of customer systems that are running on NT 4.0 platforms. Remote access to the customer's system was setup using NetBEUI. We can dial into the customer's system to retrieve diagnostic information via Windows Explorer. Updating these customer systems to XP is totally out of the question. We need to provide support to them for several more years before we ob…

can't see files after removing hard disk
by Guest wasted- 4 replies

Hi A friend's computer keeps shutting down sometimes after a few seconds, sometimes a few minutes - it's an ageing Dell and she is going to replace it, but wanted to get all her photos and documents off the hard disk (NO she hadn't backed them up!!). It was so difficult trying to do it on her computer that I removed the hard disk and have hooked it up to my own - I can see the disk and all the programme files in Windows Explorer, but under Documents and Settings I don't see her user name at all, and in "Default User" the My Documents folder is empty. Also, My Pictures folder is nowhere to be seen - yet it was there - I saw it fleetingly several times ba…

Re-Installing Internet Explorer

I recently ran a registry cleaner on my XPpro system. It boots MUCH faster now but for some reason, Internet Explorer wont run quite right. It appears to run fine for most browsing but when I go to one of the sites our family uses frequently (http://www.americangreetings.com), the card can't be displayed for editing within IE6 I've looked in my control panel for some means of un-installing IE6, tried dumping the cache, etc and even tried downloading a new copy of IE6 and installing over the top of the old one. My question, who out there as experience with 'restoring' Internet Explorer? I've tried running utilities that dump the cache, free up hard drive s…

RAID hard drives in new PC without raid: access data?
by Guest Thumper- 3 replies

I have two SATA Maxtor hard drives in a raid in my now defunct computer. Is there any way to get access to the data on those hard drives without getting a mobo with RAID on my new computer? If so, does it have to be the same "version" of raid? What I mean is that I remember that FastTrack used to have a 33 and 100 version and I don't think RAIDed hard drives on either were compatible with each other. Know what I mean? Anyway, do I need to buy a mobo with RAID again?

Win2k: Printer Matrix
by Guest arno- 3 replies

Hello, I always used http://www.printingsupport.com/matrix.htm to find compatible (Win2000!) drivers for new printers on my Win2k TS, according to http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=239088 Now, I have a "Canon MP830 Series Printer" and the commonly used driver "Canon Bubble-Jet BJC-800" does not work. Does anyone know, where I can download the Printermatrix? Do you know a kompatible driver for the MP830? In the above mentioned KB-article there is a TS-Assistant, would that help? I do not have .Net 1.1 installed, so I cannot test. Does this program know "new" printers? regards arno

Uninstalling Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition trial
by Guest Rachael12321- 8 replies

I took a class that required Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition. I didn't have any unusued space and I only have one partition, so I installed the 180-day Evaluation Edition included with my textbook in an alternate file path on the same partition as Windows XP Professional. After this, I found the following FAQ website and statement: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsserver/bb430832.aspx "Q. If I installed Windows XP Professional on a server running the evaluation version of Windows Server 2003 R2, will Windows XP Professional be removed when the 180-day limit on the Windows Server 2003 R2 software is reached? A. Yes, if you installed th…
