Control Panel icon missing etc
by Guest Kia- 1 reply

1. Control panel missing (Start > Settings > Control panel) - i've tried to add the control panel but failed. 2. Spyware infections - windows security alert keeps popping out every 5 / 10 minutes; anti virus / spyware software has been installed and scanned but it doesn't work. I downloaded Bitcomet, Limewire to download movies and songs. I'm not sure whether these will affect them.

Hi! :-) How do I set all folders to auto-arrainge so that, for example, if I delete a file in a folder set to view thumbnails, the renaining files take up the space instead of leaving a gap in there? Thanx in advance :-)

MS AUTOPLAY ISSUE
by Guest Nigel A- 3 replies

In July I started a thread regarding the autoplay wihich wasn't working, more particularly in relation to the transfer of images from camera to PC. Elmo kindly responded with: ' Before reinstalling the camera software, try this. Plug in the camera, open My Computer, right-click the camera, click Properties, click Autoplay tab, see if the application associated with the camera is mentioned in "Select an option to perform" list, and select the action if available.' Done that but it did not solve the issue. The AutoPlay tab firstly showed it was set to Music files, so it was re-set it to Pictures and under Actions, Copy pictures to a folder on my compu…

Blue screen
by Guest Hans Näslund- 8 replies

Recently, I am frequently getting the infamous blue screen for some reason I cannot figure out, so I hope sombody here might be able to help. I have created two virtual disks on a USB memory stick with Cryptainer (http://www.cypherix.com). One of them works OK, but the other frequently crashes the computer with the blue screen if I try to drag and drop a file to or from the disk, or even if I try to close a program with Explorer. CHKDSK does not find any errors on the virtual disk or on the USB memory. Recent error reports to Microsoft generate the following response: "Unfortunately, the error report you submitted is corrupted and cannot be analyzed. …

I have a few 16 bit programs that I run every day: Webster dictionary (Windows - 400 KB .exe), SaveIcons.exe (Windows - 24 KB), RestoreIcons.exe (Windows - 24 KB) and old DOS version of MAME. I was using them *every* day, especially the dictionary. Suddenly, I can't start either of these. I don't get any error messages, the only thing I can notice is an hourglass (for a half of a second) and that's all. The most weird thing is I still can run IconSaver's executables when I log on the another account (both accounts have admin rights). I've tried 'sfc /scannow' - no errors. I've tried config.nt/autoexec.nt/command.com repairing - still the same. …

I ran both AVG free , AVG spyware free and Trojan Remover 661 , basically the system is clean , also ive got Windows Defener running in the back round btw i really think the HDD is bad because 1) it takes forever to shut done and once it restarts it OFTEN does that NTFS disk check and 2) System Mechanic Pro 7 said it was bad and ran a really long chkdsk

unreferenced memory errors??
by Guest Mark G.- 1 reply

I multiple applications, I get various "unreferenced memory" issues that cause the programs to shut down. There isn't anything consistent about it either. These programs range from programs such as MS FrontPage 2003 to Photoshop CS3 to Dreamweaver CS2. Other programs as well, but those are the most note worthy. Not all of these programs and there processes are memory hogs either so I am not sure the issue. This can happen whether or not I have multiple programs open and the computer has been running for a while or even if I only have the one program open and the computer just booted up. I am running 1 gig of ram on an AMD 2800+ with a GeForce 5900 video card on XP…

I was troubleshooting & a window popped up that asked if I wanted to delete any programs that use Windows Uninstaller. Thinking that this would help me with a problem I was having with Java, I deleted Java from the list of programs that Uninstaller recognizes. That did not solve my problem with Java & I would like to "undo" the deletion. I have Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2. Would appreciate any advice. Thanks _ Carla

Hi! Could someone please help. I have been able to recover from many incidents but am stuck on this one. The computer will not boot into Windows but will allow me to start in safe mode. I have already restored to a previous date. No luck. Putting in the Windows disc didn't help either. Presumeably my problem is a driver but how do I find out which one. I haven't installed any new programs or hardware for a few weeks. Cheers Deb

I have Sisoft's Sandra and was looking through the IRQs in system resources. Both Envy24 Family Services Controller (audio) and the video card (nVidia GeFore 7600 GT) are using IRQ 16. Will this causes problems? I've been having audio problems. Thx. -- Biostar GeForce 6100-M9 939 AMD 4200+ 2.2G X2 EVGA nVidia 7600GT 256MB PCI-e 2 gigs Kingston RAM 450W PSU

Alarm clock for XP

Good evening all, I thought I read a a recommended alarm clock that rests in the "notification area"--but I can no longer find the post. I don't need much, possibly one primary alarm with a secondary alarm that can be set (although this is less important). I *believe* it may have recommended by an MVP. Any takers?
