no longer able to remote in to server
by Guest duke- 6 replies

Windows Server 2003. Months ago when we got the server new, I was able to remote into it from my office. Cannot remember if I had to enable this on the server. Then I installed terminal server to try it out, and after playing around with it I took it back out because I was afraid it would cut me off from remote access after the trial ended. Now I can no longer remote in "The client could not connect to the remote computer". Is there something I have forgotten to reset?

New RDP Client
by Guest Jordan- 4 replies

There are about 50 -100 computers that I have to access with RDP. In the version that came with XP I could create 1 RDP file and save my Username, Password, and Domain and leave the computer name blank. This way when I needed to connect to a computer I could just enter the computer name. Is there a way to force this new version to do the following: 1. NEVER again prompt me for any computer past and present about connected devices, the clipboard, printers, etc? 2. Stop changing my saved usersname and password from: UserName - MySavedName Password - Domain - MyDomain to UserName - Current logged on name Password - Domain - Remote Computer N…

What's happening with my TS licensing??
by Guest lavagirl- 5 replies

OH, my, what a mess. I was having some performance issues with some of my clients connecting to the terminal server. So, I called Microsoft. To make a long story short, they uninstalled and reissued my licenses for me (after 2 hours on the phone). So, clean slate with the license manager, 50 licenses, none issued yet. So, I went to the computers to start connecting them to make sure they were getting the licenses, and very strange things are happening! First of all, some of them are being issued a license, but the license server shows the wrong computer name for the license! (ie: perhaps an old name for the computer? we changed around some compu…

On a Windows XP Pro with SP2 on a 3.2 GHz Dell Dimension 9100 with hyperthreading and 3 GB RAM: I just replaced the original system disk, which was having permanent disk errors, with a larger disk using Seagate's cloning utility. The system works perfectly except for one thing: I cannot use the backup utility (ntbackup) if volume shadow copy is not disabled (and it cannot be disabled for system state backups). What happens if volume shadow copy is not disabled is that I get a blue screen error BAD_POOL_HEADER, Stop code x19, parameter 1 is 20. If volume shadow copy is disabled, the backup works properly. What seems creepy about this error is that…

RE: The .NET security updates I don't mean to sound like a pest or anything but there are 3 .NET updates that my system has been trying to install for the past 2 1/2 months. I have completely shut down the system on many occasion after download but they will not go in. Now what in the world is going on? -- "You May Think I'm a Stranger ...But I Ain't No Stranger Than You"

IE access

Hello, Is it possible to block internet access per-user on a 2003 TS? I need to block internet access for one user but not all. I was thinking there might be registry key to modify to set a Proxy server address, and this would take care of it since we have no proxy server. Perhaps I can do something with group policy. -- Thanks, Jeff

We are running Server 2003 on Compaq Prolian ML370, 6 SCSI hot-swappable 36.4G drives, 2 mirrored O/S and 4 Raid 5, software as no array controller available for hardware raid. Originally, one HD failed. It was replaced and the mirror recreated. Next, RAID array disks, 3 offline and failed. Ran HP diagnostic and 3 of 4 drives tested bad. Replaced drives, recreated array, restored data. Now receiving following error: An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk3 during a paging operation, EVENT ID : 51and SCSI Physical Drive Status Change. I have one user that has problems on occasion using remote desktop. More and more often these days when she logs on to the remote server she gets the following tw messages. The only way to allow her to get in again s to kick everyone off and reboot the server. "Windows can not load the locally stored profile. Possible casues o this error are insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile." and "Windows cannot find the local profile and will be logging you on with a temporary profile. Any changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off."

Multiple monitors
by Guest Stan2w- 2 replies

I work for a public safety department in the D/FW area. We are close to implementing a new Computer Aid Dispatch system. We have 4 screens connected to one computer, which we can move the different queues where we want them. The problem we have run into is that the company is saying that we have only 2 options. 1. Set it up so that the computer thinks that all 4 monitors are 1 screen, and the task bar goes across all 4 screens, to allow us to save where we place our queues. The downfall of this is if you open a window fully, it goes over all 4 screens, and some emergency "pop boxes" that we use split between screens 2 and 3. The second option is tha…

I have a Windows 2003 domain with 2 dc's that are both running standard edition. I want to add an Enterprise Edition server to my domain so I can install IIFP. Will I have any problems doing this and should this server hold any of the roles over the standard servers? The domain is 2003 native at both the forest and domain levels. Thanks, Bob

OK, now I know this sounds simple, but this one isn't. I tried the normal things like selecting the use same window option and I went to file type and selected option explore under File Folder and Folder, and that didn't fix. I replaced the explorer key in the HKR\Folders \Shell from a working PC. Any other ideas?

Audio problem, lagging and jumpy
by Guest Charlie- 1 reply

I am having an audio problem of the same nature on 2 different systems. After installing a fresh copy on XP SP2 on one system and MCE 2005 on another system, and after installing all programs and apps, I do a reboot and hear at the "Windows is shutting down" screen an audio chime that lags and studders. I log back in and at the "Welcome" screen a chime is fine. I play a music file from either WMP 11 or iTunes and the audio will intermittingly studder and at times drag and stretch (best description). I have all updated BIOS setting and audio drivers from the manufacturer, and not from Windows Update. I tried a driver roll back with no luck. System Res…
