Run Wireless repair as non-admin
by Guest ddamico- 0 replies

Does anyone know of a way to allow non-admins to select and run the Wireless repair option? Every now and then the wireless network connection drops and the only way the customer can reconnect is to restart the system. We would like them to use the repair option. The repair option is grayed out if you do not have admin rights.

Hi, I've installed SP2 on a copy of our server in a virtual machine. The update is running through but when I restart the server I receive the following error message: "Service Control Manager: Windows could not be started as configured. A previous working configuration was used instead." This is exactly the same error as described in KB924690. Unfortunately they didn't post a fix for this error or write where to look at. The solution they have only prevent the message from appearing. SP2 on another server went fine.... Cheers

Laptop/Notebook Computer Clicks Off On Its Own!
by Guest Sparkheimer- 2 replies

My hp pavilion ze5185 (Windows XP SvcPk 2) will just make a clicking/popping noise then turn off on its own. It used to do it once in a while when I was using it (was told that laptops sometimes have that problem but I never close mine up thus creating 'stress' on the wiring). But now it does the same thing after remaining inactive for about 15 minutes. No - I don't have a virus/trojan. Yes - I have my settings at NEVER - to never turn off, hibernate, etc. Yes - I have the latest updates. Perhaps there are conflicts in a driver? Haven't installed anything new in a long time. The computer is about six years old. Any ideas?

Program startup prior to Logon

Hello, I would like to start my broadband wireless and my VPN software prior to entering my windows logon so that I can connect to my corporate network and have all my network settings applied (drive mappings, etc.). I tried entering the path to those programs in HKLM\Software \Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and it doesn't seem to work. I even tried creating a scheduled task to start on system startup but that didn't work either. Any suggestions would be welcomed. Cheers, Gary Hampson

Just purchased an HP DV6405 laptop with Vista Home Premium and have entered software removal hell. Trying to remove pre-installed Vongo. Lot's of 'net traffic about it, with suggestions to use the Windows Installation Cleanup Utility, pointing to msicuu2.exe. Downloaded it and when I try to execute it I get "permission denied" - "Microsoft VBScript runtime error." What's up with that?

I have always used a 19" monitor and my daughter just bought me a 22" wide flat screen monitor. My question is: what is the best resolution for this size. When I go to MSN.com there is so much space on both sides of the screen and all the information is in the center. Any and all help is greatly appreicated.

asp not working
by Guest runner7@fastmail.fm- 0 replies

On a Windows Server 2003 system I am working on, asp is shown allowed in the iis snap-in. When you put an asp file in the webroot directory with the html content, however, you can view the html pages in IE but the asp page will not show up. There is some redirection going on in the system, but I am not sure how it works. Could iis be redirecting pages according to their extension rather than their directory location? Is there something else I need to do to make asp work right? Any insight as to what may be our problem would be greatly appreciated.
