turning off roaming profiles (just clearing profile path isnt work
by Guest Laeelin- 1 reply

Our network is using windows server 2003. There are about 10 of us and only one actually needs a roaming profile. The last network admin setup everyone as a roaming profile and I want to move everyone except for one user back to a local profile. (some profiles are huge.. in the 2g-4g range causing long log-on times and extra network traffic) On the server: In Active Directory Users and Computers I selected the server, clicked the users folder, right clicked on an account and selected properties. On the profile tab I deleted the profile path (left blank). On the local computer: I checked in system properties -> advanced -> users, and the profile i…

move license to different machine?
by Guest Gary Karasik- 6 replies

Hi, Question: Can an activated W3K3 license be moved to a different server? Situation: A client with a W2K3 site license has bought a business with a stand-alone W2K3 server. The want to move the newly-purchased server to the site with the site license, "de-activate" it, then license it for use under the site license. They then want to use the "old" license at a different location not covered by the site license. Can this be done? And if so, how? -- GaryK

Can't locate "System Performance and Troubleshooting Guide"
by Guest Mike Keighley- 0 replies

Windows 2003 Server Help makes more than one reference to the "System Performance and Troubleshooting Guide", e.g. in "Analysing performance data" and in "Performance monitoring resources" we see: "For a more detailed discussion of performance data and its analysis, and on troubleshooting your computer using performance-monitoring tools, see "Part One: Operating System Performance" in the System Performance and Troubleshooting Guide, available at the Microsoft Windows Resource Kits Web site. " I am unable to locate this Guide anywhere on microsoft.com however, never mind "the Microsoft Windows Resource Kits Web site", which link simply jumps to the t…

upgrade NT to 2003
by Guest Gilbert- 1 reply

I am planning an upgrade from Windows NT to Windows 2003 Active Directory. There's a new server that's been purchased and I will be installing Windows server 2003 x64 on it. I've been reading thru the upgrade guides but I need some advice. I'd like to do as little as possible with the users' computers. 1. I would like to know if it's possible to perform a clean installation on the new server. (create a domain with the same name, move all the accounts from the old server to the new one, then power off the old server). 2. What will happen to all the client machines? Do they have to unjoin/rejoin the domain? Will I have to re-do user profiles? …

Folder View.
by Guest Bubba- 2 replies

Hi. I would like to customize Xp so that CERTAIN folders have certain view. For example, data files are listed in "Detail", videos and images are displayed in "Thumbnail" view etc. I understand that I can "Apply to all folders", however I don't see the reality of displaying Data Files in Thumbnail view. I thought I had this configured, but for some reason every folder is displayed "apparently" in random format and I can't seem to get "Individual Folders" to display the way I'd like. Am I missing something? Ok, dumb question, otherwise I wouldn't be posting. Thanks...

Hi, If a Windows XP PC is connected to a domain, and you leave it unattended for 10 to 15 minutes - it will automatically lock, and you have to press ctrl+alt+del and enter your password to log in again. Is there a way to prevent this. Many thanks, Justin -- Desktop Support Guru
