video display
by Guest Carol- 2 replies

Every once in a while when I go to close an application a transparent or faded image of the application still appears on the desktop. I have tried updating my video drivers and it has not resolved the problem. The only way to clear the screen is to shut down the computer and bring it back up. Any ideas on how to fix this?

by Guest Rick Lipkin- 0 replies

To All I have a wierd situation where I have a very successful ADO xHarbour\FWH C++ application ( executable ) which resides on a Win2003 server. When the users run the executable from the server ( shortcut on their pc ) the application connects to the off site SQL server and runs flawlessly. However .. if you are at the server console ( physically at the server ) .. and you run the same application ( on the server ) it will start but fail to connect to the first table. Totally exhausted here trying to find an answer .. I have found Google ideas on adding Persistant Security Info=False to no avail. Here is the connection string : oRs := TOleAut…

I have a new Win2003 SP2 server installed. IIS with ASP.NET is the only service installed. There are 5 different domains on the server with static HTML pages. Now, we want to have some asp.net sites that will require email to be sent from them. I know I need to install the SMTP service, but can someone point me to a tutorial on how to setup the server for multiple domains to be able to send/receive email? Thanks. --

No display after full screen command prompt exit
by Guest Jim Ormsbee- 1 reply

If I open a dos window (command prompt) and go full screen by pressing alt-enter and then exit by typing 'exit'/enter, my display goes blank. The same think happens if I press alt-enter a second time. After this I can toggle using alt-enter between a full screen dos window and a blank display. The keyboard seems to be fully functional. Knowing the keystrokes, I can shutdown or restart windows, but I cannot seem to restore my desktop without doing so. Also if I let the screen saver activate I seem to be in a permanent blank screen. Any suggestions. Thank you. -- Jim Ormsbee

Question about W2K Server CALs
by Guest tim1948- 0 replies

My interest in W2K Server may be somewhat unusual, but hopefully someone will address it. My wife and I have two computers, one good and the other obsolete. An experiment indicated that RDP would allow the latter to function as a thin client, though consumer Windows does not support concurrent sessions. (And that's what I want, to use the better computer as an application server.) I purchased the "promo" edition of W2K Advanced Server for $88 online, which has a "10-client access limit." Does anyone know whether I shall be able to use it for my intended purpose without purchasing CALs?--at any rate, I have only the vaguest idea as to what they are or how to ac…

Multi-site Licensing question
by Guest APT SA- 6 replies

We have a multi-site environment with our Citrix-TS servers in the HQ site. We are planning on deploying a distributed TS application that would run in the remote sites. I wanted to put license servers in the remote sites so they would get their licenses in their own sites. This will be fine when connecting to distributed app in their site but will it affect their access when they connect to TS app in HQ office. In other words if you have TS and license server in site 1 and client and license server in site 2, if client connects to site 1 will it have to pull CAL over WAN and/or will it attempt to get a new license from license server in site 1 even th…

I'm trying to clean up my hard drive, I down loaded all my files and found that I have 13 (msvcr71.dll) files all the same size 348160. My question is do I require all 13 files from various programs or do I need 1. If only one, which do I keep the newest or oldest or something in between?? I also have other .dll files that are the same such as: msvcp71.dll, pclib32.dll etc. Thank for you help. -- Bob

Win xp home my friend has a HP desktop. I loaded motorola phone tools on it for her, and changed the power options for go on stby to never. then we restarted the machine. Upon boot up it stopped at the first screen that says "HP" I tried F8 and F10 for safe mode and it just sits there. We restarted several times with the same result. I then got pissed off and went to the store and to stop by my place to get some boot CD's to determine if it was a hardware problem, at which time my friend called and said it started up normally. So... any idea why this happened? Greg

Unable to access folders
by Guest Information- 4 replies

We have slaved a drive from a dead laptop into our desktop, and are unable to access our old folder in Documents and Settings. Both systems are running XP Home. I know access can be obtained, but I am forgetting the specific steps. We are logged in on the Desktop as an administrator, so I have access to the Security settings on the drive. Can someone please point me to the rights steps to take over this folder again, so we can copy our data to the new system? Thanks in advance, Dan

migrating from old hardware to new hardware.

is there some kind of trick where you can add drivers to a working windows installation so that if you were to just take those hard disks and put them in a newer machine it would boot up and work? I made a ghost image of one of the disks in my working exchange server and then put the ghosted sata drive in a brand new dell poweredge 1900 and like i expected it just reboots repeatedly. Is there some magic way to add drivers for the perc sas raid controller before i move the image over so that the boot loader is able to find the windows installation? or am I dreaming in teletubbies land? -Drew
